Two Indian-origin men shot dead in Canada, 10 days after Ripudaman Malik’s killing

0

Two Indian-origin men have been shot dead in Canada, 10 days after an eerily similar killing of Ripudaman Singh Malik, who had been acquitted of charges of bombing an Air India plane, according to media reports.

Meninder Dhaliwal and Satindera Gill were killed on Sunday at the British Columbia resort village of Whistler. The two latest victims were shot in broad daylight while sitting in a car in a public place like Ripudaman Malik and as in that incident, a car was also found burning nearby, according to media reports.

The two incidents, however, have not been linked by officials. Two persons who have not been publicly identified have been arrested in connection with the latest killings, CTV reported quoting officials. But there have been no arrests as yet in the killing of Malik.

Dhaliwal, along with his brother Barinder, was on a list of six men, four of them of Indian descent, released last year by the Vancouver Police Department which called them “gangsters” who “pose a significant risk to the safety of the public”.

Police Chief Adam Palmer warned while releasing their pictures, “Our police intelligence leads us to believe that the individuals we have identified today may be targeted by rival gang members”.

Dhaliwal was a member of a gang known as “Brothers Keeper” (BK), while Gill was not known to be involved with gangs, the Vancouver Sun reported. Dhaliwal’s brother was killed last year in April, the newspaper’s website said.

CTV said that the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) confirmed Dhaliwal and Gill had been targeted and the shooting was linked to an ongoing gang conflict in British Columbia’s Lower Mainland region that includes Vancouver.

The Sun said that the BK has been involved in violent conflicts over the years with the gang known as “United Nations” and with some members of “Red Scorpions”. It said that last year Dhaliwal’s brother Harb was killed outside a Vancouver restaurant when he was with him and Barinder. Meninder chased the gunman, Francoise Gauthier, and stabbed him in the eye, but did not face charges, it added.

Gauthier admitted last month in a Canadian court to carrying out the murder and was sentenced to life in prison, the Sun reported. It said that both Meninder and Barinder had been shot several times in the past.

Ripudaman Singh was acquitted on charges linked to the bombing of Air India’s Kanishka that killed all on board the Boeing 747 on a flight from Canada to Bharat in 1985. Once a supporter of the Sikh separatist Khalistan movement, he later made peace with Bharatiya government, writing to Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier this year: “I am writing you this to express my deep heartfelt gratitude for the unprecedented positive steps taken by yourself to redress long-reading Sikh demands and grievances.”

He was taken off Bharatiya government’s blacklist and granted a visa to visit Bharat in 2019.

Police officers allegedly help PFI terrorists in Kerala

Three members of the Kerala Police accused of leaking sensitive information to extremist groups have been transferred. Civil police officers PV Aliyar, PS Riyas, and Abdul Samad from the Idukki district were being investigated for allegedly giving information to extremist organizations through computers at the Munnar police station.

On May 15, officials revealed that the three had compromised the station’s computer and exposed sensitive material to the Popular Front of India (PFI) jihadis. District police chief R Karuppasamy designated Munnar deputy SP KR Manoj to investigate. After that, their cell phones were seized and handed to the cyber cell.

Now, the district police chief has received a report from the deputy SP for Munnar asking for a thorough investigation into the occurrence. As the first step in response to an internal report, Aliyar and Riyas were transferred to Ernakulam district, while Samad was assigned to the Kottayam district.

Situations forced the state to penalize police officers thrice in the last few months for breaking service rules after allegations of their ties to extremist organizations arose. A female officer who shared a Popular Front of India leader’s Facebook post earlier this month was suspended from the service. An attack on the police and the judiciary was made on Facebook by PFI state leader AA Rauf, shared by Ramla Ismail, an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) at Kanjirappally police station in Kottayam district.

A civil police officer at the Karimannoor police station in Idukki, close to Thodupuzha, named PK Anas, was fired in February for allegedly giving sensitive information to the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), a PFI political branch.

In May, Jishad Badruddin, a Kerala Fire and Rescue Services personnel, was arrested for his role in killing RSS worker Sreenivasan. Sreenivasan, a former RSS Palakkad district Sharirik Shikshan Pramukh was hacked to death on April 16 by PFI terrorists. Incidentally, this is the same fire and rescue department that conducted ‘training sessions’ for PFI jihadis in Aluva, Kerala, in April.

These are strange times when such police personnel receive transfers/ suspensions as opposed to being fired. A deadly terrorist-leaning sleeper cell called Pacha Velicham (Green Light) is believed to have infiltrated inside the Kerala Police. Discontent is brewing within the force against the government’s blind appeasement.

Serial grooming jihadi Zeeshan arrested, his parents too abetted his crimes

0
ansari

A shocking case of sexual exploitation of multiple girls via love/grooming jihad has come to light from Sonbhadra, UP.

The accused Zeeshan was arrested for abducting a minor Hindu girl and forcing her to ‘marry’ him, after the girl’s parents lodged a police complaint. The minor has been recovered and her statement recorded. It has emerged that Zeeshan threatened to kill her and her family.

As per Sonbhadra ASP Vinod Kumar, phone numbers of 13 Hindu girls along with their objectionable photos and videos have been recovered from Zeeshan’s phone. A resident of Millat Nagar in Sonbhadra, Zeeshan used to lure Hindu girls into relationships and then sexually exploit them under promise of marriage. Police investigation has revealed that even his mother and father were involved in abetting these crimes.

Two years back, another shocking case had been reported from Sonbhadra when Priya Soni was raped and beheaded by her Muslim ‘husband’ and his friend for refusing to convert to Islam.

Religious sanction for Love/Grooming Jihad

Dehumanization of Hindus as kafirs (non-believers, idol-worshippers) and the belief that Hindu girls are easy targets is a widespread problem within Muslim society, something that our Hinduphobic elites prefer to ignore. Case after case has shown how Hindu and other non-Muslim girls and women are targeted especially for their religion – see here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here.

By now, multiple Muslim clerics have been found to be involved in exhorting Muslim youth to target non-Muslim girls. Last year, a teacher in a mosque in Fatehpur was exposed by an elderly member of the same mosque committee itself. Abdul Majeed Khan said that Hafiz Firoze Alam taught Muslim youth to trap girls of other religions for sexual exploitation, conversion and marriage. A woman Islamic scholar from the renowned Al-Azhar university at Cairo, Egypt said “Muslim men can rape non-Muslim women to humiliate them”.

Maulana Kaleem Siddiqui, arrested for running a large foreign-funded conversion racket, was heard saying that ‘upper caste’ Hindu girls should be the preferred target for conversion. Siddiqui’s trust funds several madrassas in UP and he has been a member of the Sharia Advisory Council of Zakat Foundation of India, an NGO famed for coaching Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) aspirants and rehabilitating Rohingyas in Bharat.

Social sanction for targeting non-Muslim females

While the 1992 Ajmer serial gang-rapes and blackmail ring shows us that objectification of Hindu girls by Islamists is not new, such attitudes have grown manifold in the digital age. One just has to look at the explosion of social networking groups and hashtags like #HSlut4MStud that fetishize and sexually objectify Hindu girls and even e-books about rape fantasies involving Hindu women being churned out wholesale on Kindle.

In Muslim societies like Pakistan, social activists have observed that forced conversions enjoy social sanction. It is a mainstream belief that any non-Muslim being converted to Islam should be ‘grateful’ as they have been ‘saved from the fires of jahannum’ (Islam says that non-believers will burn in hell in the afterlife, irrespective of however many good deeds they have done in their life). So reports of rape and forced conversion of non-Muslim girls are either silently cheered, ignored or labelled conspiracies to ‘defame Islam’.

The situation is no different in Bharat than the rest of the subcontinent. Indeed, Bharat is home to some of the most fundamentalist and fanatical Islamic organizations/movements the world has ever seen like Tablighi Jamaat, Deoband, Barelvis, Jamaat-e-Islami etc.

Indian ex-Muslims have also spoken at great length about how tactics like Love Jihad have wide acceptance in Muslim society, even among the educated classes, as it is seen as serving the cause of Islam and ‘removing jahiliya (ignorance)’. The indoctrination of Muslim children to regard the non-Muslim as inferior starts at an early age, and boys looking for ‘some fun’ easily find support and training on how to trap non-Muslim girls, especially minors who can be more easily influenced and intimidated.

Conclusion

This case from Sonbhadra will be ignored or suppressed by mainstream English-language media and digital outlets like Scroll, The Wire, Newslaundry etc., just like they do with the other everyday cases of rape and love/grooming jihad. They will continue dismissing Love Jihad as a “conspiracy theory espoused by Hindutva supremacists”. But if a Muslim claims that he was assaulted and made to chant ‘Jai Sri Ram’, that will be splashed all over and used to shame Hindus.

Such is the dismissive attitude of our media towards such crimes and the lack of interest in covering them, that we haven’t been able to find any image of the accused Zeeshan.

People like Zeeshan and his parents feel no moral pinpricks when they cold-bloodedly target Hindu girls. Unless we uproot the socio-religious institutions that are producing such mindsets, and the intellectual elites who whitewash their crimes, ordinary Hindu girls and their families will continue suffering. Our broken law enforcement and judicial system has miserably failed to act as a deterrent.

A Zeeshan managed to get away for so long, even after exploiting and harassing 13 girls, because many Bharatiyas no longer trust our system and avoid police and courts as much as possible. They prefer to cut their losses and move on. Even though he has been arrested in this case, the odds are high that Zeeshan will escape any serious punishment. Unless such criminals are given the death penalty or at least life imprisonment, there is no real deterrence. However, our SC appears more interested in ‘reforming sinners‘ than delivering justice to victims.

A complete reboot of our State and its institutions, i.e. the foundation of a second Republic built around a Dharmic Constitution, is the only lasting solution.

During Tripura’s centuries-old Ker Puja, families pay a fine for births, deaths

0

Be it death, birth or even recreation, all these are not permissible during the celebration of the centuries-old ‘Ker Puja’ in Tripura and other northeastern states, as well as in the Chittagong Hill Tracts of Bangladesh.

This annual festival, organised by the indigenous vanvasi population consisting of intricate, time-honoured rituals, is aimed at the well-being of people and warding off evil spirits.

Although the 43-hour-long festival began late Monday, the actual ‘Ker Puja’ will be held on Tuesday.

As per the strong conventions and customs of the ceremonies, no pregnant woman or critically ailing person is allowed inside the puja areas.

Any person who violates these regulations is bound to pay a fine and the Ker Puja has to restart afresh from the initial stage.

As has been the norm, West Tripura District Magistrate through a gazette notification notified the areas of Ker Puja in Puran Habeli (erstwhile capital of princely ruled state of Tripura) at Khayerpur, nearly 12-km east of Agartala, and Natun Habeli in Agartala.

Sponsored by the state government, Ker Puja is one of the important events in Tripura.

The literal meaning of ‘Ker’ in the vanvasi Kokborok language is “specified area”.

“The puja rituals started at 10 p.m. on Monday night and will continue uninterrupted for more than 43 hours,” the gazette notification said.

“Pregnant women and sick people are to be kept out of the specified puja area before the rituals of the puja starts. No one is allowed to enter the notified area till the rituals end.”

Speaking to IANS, writer and historian Salil Debbarma said: “The government notification issued on July 18 and widely circulated, prohibiting any kind of entertainment, dancing, singing and movement of animals in the specified Ker Puja areas.

“The customary rules and conventions are strict and not easy to follow. Many decades ago, the then District Magistrate had been fined for entering the notified areas of Ker Puja without permission of the chief priest.”

If there is a birth or a death during the puja, then a family has to pay a fine as well.

During Ker Puja, any kind of recreation is strictly banned in the notified areas. The Tripura Police offer a gun salute before and after the ending of the puja.

“Those performing the Ker Puja cannot wear stitched clothes,” Debbarma added.

“The head priest and his associates light up the fire by rubbing bamboo. The vanvasis and people around the Ker Puja areas carry the fire to their homes believing that it would ensure their well-being and thwart the evil spirit,” he said.

The rituals are carried out at government expenses as per the merger agreement inked between the state and the erstwhile royal family in October 1949.

Besides Agartala and Puran Habeli, the puja is organised in many vanvasi villages towards the end of the year or at the end of the harvesting season.

“The erstwhile royal dynasty would perform Ker Puja for the welfare of the people, praying against calamities and external aggression,” said writer and historian Panna Lal Roy.

“The sacrifice of birds, animals and offerings characterise this popular puja,” Roy added.

A structure constructed with green bamboo poles serves as the deity for the ceremonies.

The ‘chantai’ or head priest is regarded as the king on the occasion.

A close relative of previous royal families, Debbarma said that 90 per cent of earlier Ker Puja areas are now out of the existing notified areas.

He added that at the end of the 1,355-year rule by 184 kings, on October 15, 1949, the erstwhile princely state of Tripura came under the control of Bharatiya government after a merger agreement was signed between regent Maharani, Kanchan Prabha Devi and the Indian Governor General.

The merger agreement made it mandatory for the Tripura government to continue the sponsorship of several traditional vanvasi pujas and 14 temples, including the Mata Tripura Sundari temple run by the Hindu princely rulers.

This religious practice continued for more than seven decades. A full-fledged department — Public Place of Worship or ‘Debarchan Vibhaga’ functioning under District Magistrates in four of Tripura’s eight districts now has this responsibility and bears the entire expenditure of these temples in Tripura.

An Urdu teacher at a government primary school here has been suspended for making objectionable comments on his colleague’s social media post.

The comments were made last month and the Basic Shiksha Adhikari (BSA) suspended the teacher on Monday.

Mohammad Ahmad had criticised another teacher Tahira Parveen for putting a ’tilak’ on the forehead of a Hindu officer in Aligarh and posting the picture on social media. The photograph had gone viral.

According to BSA Satyendra Kumar Dhaka: “An inquiry was conducted and the decision to suspend the teacher was taken after that.”

Parveen said she had shared her photograph on a WhatsApp group comprising teachers. One of the group members, Ahmad, took objection to it and derided her for “following the Hindu religion with happiness”.

This was followed by a series of negative comments against her.

Parveen said: “Since I was the only woman teacher there, I was asked to welcome the new block education officer Satish Chandra Mishra by putting a tilak on his forehead. There was nothing wrong in it.”

The abandoned minorities of Bangladesh

Source: independent.co.uk; Hindus denounce violence amid new attacks in Bangladesh

Islam being the state religion is not the only thing common between Pakistan and Bangladesh but endangered future of religious minorities, violent hate crimes and everyday discrimination against them is another commonality which makes them part of the idea called ‘Pakistan’.

A recent incident of Muslim mob vandalising a temple and several houses belonging to members of Hindu community in the Sahapara area of Lohagara, Narail over a Facebook post after the Jumma Namaz on Friday (July 15) summarises the constant fear under which Hindus are forced to live in Bangladesh. This article makes an attempt to show the many ways in which religious minorities, particularly Hindus and ethnic tribes of Bangladesh are being discriminated against and their human rights are violated with impunity.

Rampant violations of rights of religious and other minorities are reported from some Islamic countries on a daily basis. In this context, Bangladesh along with Pakistan and Afghanistan is a living hell for the religious minorities in the Indian subcontinent. Civilizational tragedy in the form of extinction of Hindu minorities is unfolding in front of our eyes. Population of religious minorities has shrunk to an abysmal state. Hindus, for example are at their all-time low at around 8.5% of the total population from 22% in 1951.

A Muslim majority state with Islam as its official religion hardly treats non-Muslims as equal citizens and this fact is even boasted by the constitutional heads of some countries. For example, Khawaja Nazimuddin, the 2nd Prime Minister of Pakistan, had said, “I do not agree that religion is a private affair of the individual nor do I agree that in an Islamic state every citizen has identical rights, no matter what his caste, creed or faith be”.

The first-hand experience of this bitter truth was borne by then Scheduled Caste leader of Bengal, Jogendranath Mondal (1904-68), who made a so called common cause with Muslim League, had to come back to Bharat just after few years. His resignation letter is a historic document indicating the abysmal status of minorities in the then just born Pakistan. Also, it is a lesson for today’s so called Ambedkarites who are seeking a common goal with such Islamic fundamentalist forces in Bharat.

Hindus fought along with their Bengali brethren for the cause of independent Bangladesh. They suffered most at the hands of the Pakistan military due to their religious identity. Even the UN Counsel in Dhaka wrote about Hindus being specifically targeted. With their countless sacrifices, the war for Bangladesh liberation was over but unfortunately not for the religious minorities of Bangladesh. The secular thought with which the new country was carved out eroded too fast.

Today, recurrent cases of kidnapping, rapes, forced conversions to Islam, land grabbing by majority, vandalisation of temples and false blasphemy charges along with legal and institutionalised discrimination had rendered the lives of religious minorities upside down. Further, rise in Islamist radicalisation has led to a situation where mere existence of Hindus automatically hurts the sentiments of majority community. a worst nightmare.

This radicalization via foreign funding from the Middle East and even Britain for fundamentalist activities like mushrooming of madrasas, mosques etc. has thus hardened the anti-minority feelings. The concoction of money power, political Islamist strength and indoctrination of youth through madrasa education are tragic signs of a dark future for religious and ethnic minorities of Bangladesh.

After its independence, Bangladesh promised to be a ‘sovereign Peoples’ Republic’. However, soon, Islamists started having greater influence on the polity of Bangladesh and in 1977 ‘secularism’ was replaced with “absolute trust and faith in Almighty Allah”. Though the Apex Court of the country revoked the change in 2010 but still Sharia laws have huge bearings on court rulings. Countries with large Muslim populations rarely remain secular in the long run. Same happened with Bangladesh when in 1988 as Islam was made the state religion. A secular state with a state religion? How ironic!  It further emboldened the Islamists and put the lives of Hindus under a constant threat of Islamic vigilantism.

Legally also, Bangladesh discriminates against religious minorities in many ways. Take the example of the Enemy Property Act of Pakistan (Now Vested Property Act). In addition to Islam being made the state religion, this legislation contributed immensely in fostering marginalization of Hindu minorities. The Enemy Property Act was enacted in 1965 in Pakistan under which the properties of Hindus were seized by the government after the Bharat-Pakistan war of 1965. What is more astonishing is that it continued in the sovereign State of Bangladesh for decades even after its independence.

In fact, this act became a social and political tool of land grabbing of minority Hindus of the country. The voluminous data of land grabbing highlights the disastrous impact of it. In this context, Prof. Abul Barkat, a Professor from Dhaka University has termed it as a ‘national disaster’ and has concluded that around one million Hindu households have been affected. Around five million Hindu populations have been severely affected and two million land properties have been lost.

As per the 2001 census, it comes out 10 that around 44% Hindu population has been affected due to this. After consistent efforts from civil society and international human rights agencies, this act was repealed in 2001. However, till yet, no efforts were made in the following years to return the properties to the rightful owners and their successors.

In a country infested with Sunni Islamic radicalization, there is no security and freedom for religious and ethnic minorities as well. Besides Hindus, the indigenous people of Bangladesh, Jummas have been fighting a war against religious and ethnic persecution and for their bare survival for the past half a century in the ethnically unique Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) area.

Tools of Militarisation and Islamisation were deployed to change the demography of this area first under the Pakistani Government and afterwards the successive Bangladeshi governments. This area had 90% Buddhist population in 1951 but today the ratio between tribaland Muslims, as per 2011 census stands at around 55% to 45% respectively. The CHT Peace Accord signed between the indigenous people and the government of Bangladesh provided a ray of hope but even after 23 years of signing the Accord, its major sections remain unimplemented.

Women belonging to religious and ethnic minorities face double marginalization. Though Bangladesh is a signatory to Convention on the elimination of all Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) yet crime against women continues abated. Hatred is being fomented in society through an inappropriate representation of minorities and particularly women folks in society. Also, Abductions, rapes, forced conversions and marriages are routine things and also form a large part of the history of this land.

Beginning from the pre-partition Noakhali violence unleashed on Hindu minorities, to the Barisal riots of 1950, the Rajshahi massacres of 1962, the 1964 East Pakistan riots and the big genocide of 1971, Hindu women have been the biggest victims of Islamic fanatics. The post-election 2001 violence led to rapes of 200 Hindu women in one night at Bhola, as admitted by a Judicial Commission. An eight-year-old girl to a 70-year-old woman to a crippled woman included, no Hindu woman was spared in the village as 12 Muslim men took turns in violating their bodies.

As Bangladesh celebrates the golden jubilee of liberation, an overview of its journey provides too grim a picture on the human rights front. Orthodox Islam has gripped the socio-political fabric of Bangladesh. Also, fast decrease in the population of Hindu minorities and increased spate of violent hate crimes is a disastrous sign from the human rights perspective. Some demographic analytical studies have indicated that Hindu minorities will be wiped out completely from the country in a matter of a few decades. Yet the gravity of the situation is not reflected in the efforts of the UN, international humanitarian organizations and Bangladesh government. They continue to show criminal apathy towards the sufferings of Bengali Hindus.

Thus, every basic norm of human rights is being grossly violated in Bangladesh by legal institutions, society and non-state actors. Hence, it’s a mandate on the international community concerned with the protection of human rights to take necessary measures. This is high time that International agencies, like Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) must intervene effectively before it is too late and minorities are completely wiped off from the country. Bangladesh is signatory to many humanitarian covenants however gross violations of rights of religious minorities goes unnoticed internationally. Lastly, it is the civilizational duty of the Indian government to avert this civilizational tragedy unfolding in front of our eyes.
