Syed Muhammad Salahudeen / Salahuddin a Popular Front of India (PFI) worker was hacked to death on 8th September at Kannavam near Koothuparambu in Kannur District Kerala. Salahudeen was the seventh accused in the murder of Akhil Bharatiya Vidhyarthi Parishad (ABVP) activist Shyam Prasad on the 19th of January 2018.
Salahuddin
Islamist SDPI/PFI has a history of murdering Hindu activists
Shyam Prasad was a student at Kakkayangad ITI and active member of the RSS in Kannavam. He was on his way home from college when Islamic jihadi extremists associated with Popular Front of India/PFI waylaid the young man. Shyam did try to escape but he was surrounded by the masked assailants and was attacked with lethal weapons, killing him.
Shyam Prasad
The assailants escaped after the murder but four of them were later nabbed from Wayanad. The arrested PFI/SDPI members were Parakandathil Puthan House Muhammad, Minikol House Saleem, Sameera Manzil Sameer, and Kizhallur Palayottil Mohammad Shaheem. There are 13 accused in the Shyam murder case and it is alleged that all of them got PFI support to hide while on the run.
After murdering Shyam in early 2018, Salahudeen too went into hiding and later surrendered before the Magistrate Court at Mattannur in Kannur in March of 2019 and he was remanded. Police reports later confirmed Salaudheen and his brother Nizamudeen as the masterminds behind the murder of Shyam. They were both charged with aiding and abetment, conspiracy, procurement of weapons, and arranging vehicles for the accused.
Like all Islamists, Salahuddin also protested against CAA
The plight of students belonging to the ABVP in Kerala has been repeatedly highlighted at the national level by the media. Young Hindu students who had joined RSS have been brutally murdered by the radical elements in Muslim organizations like PFI, SDPI, and the IUML. They are also targeted by bigots in the communist organizations and the local Congress cadre.
Home Minister Amit Shah has spoken in the past on the criminal nature of attacks on party cadre, especially in North Kerala. Speaking at an event organized by the ABVP a couple of days after Shyam was murdered, Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath had blamed the CPIM led state government for the violence.
Of course, the jihadi elements have full support of Communist and Congress parties. This is how a blatantly Islamist party SDPI got the courage to implement its own game plan in the region. Now they have spread their tentacles to all over the country. We now know how they manipulated the recent riots in Bengaluru, and Delhi. The whole Shaheen Bagh protest was led by SDPI/PFI, whose head quarters are in Shaheen Bagh itself!
Why Pratheesh Viswanath is being targeted by Islamists?
Even as the news of Salahudeen’s murder started to trickle through, the SDPI started their blame game. They accused a local nationalist named Pratheesh Viswanath who had visited Kannur, when Shyam was murdered. This visit was way back in 2018, immediately after the incident.
A Malayali Islamist, apparently based out of Turkey, called for Hindu blood and exhorted her local friends to kill prominent RSS leaders instead of workers who are poor laborers. She specifically names BJP President, K Surendran, and Pratheesh Viswanathan to be added to the hit list. She justifies by adding that killing top leaders will bring tough decisions, perhaps meaning that voices against jihadi terror will be suppressed.
Pratheesh is an advocate and practicing in the High Court of Kerala. He was discovered by Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Sh. Ashok Singhal, who also acted as a mentor to a young Pratheesh. He has been at the forefront of issues regarding Sanatana dharma, especially in Kerala. He enjoys widespread support among Keralites all over the world.
As a VHP functionary, a young Pratheesh started his career working with tribals. He now runs an organization called the Hindu Seva Kendra. He has exposed several land encroachments into temple lands and actively pursues legal matters regarding the same in courts. Many such lands are in the names of temples but are now under the jurisdiction of the state government, or under illegal occupation of Muslims and Christians.
He had earlier opposed sinister moves by the communist government to sell traditional temple lamps and other antiques belonging to different temples. Following court interventions, the state government was forced to bring an end to this illegal practice.
Having led the Sabarimala agitation from the front, he was also instrumental in stopping the desecration of Sabarimala Temple and went to jail for that. The agitation took a mass character due to his efforts. This was exactly what the CPIM did not want to happen since the atheists communists were hell-bent on destroying the sanctity of Hindu places of worship.
What has really turned the SDPI against him really is the fact that Pratheesh almost single-handedly exposed the love jihad problem in Kerala. Many years ago, he introduced Keralites to the concept of Love Jihad which works through organizations like the PFI and SDPI. In Love Jihad, Muslim men marry Hindu and Christian women after converting them to Islam. This has been happening on a huge scale and is aided and financed by PFI.
The sheer number of cases gives us an estimate of the depth and seriousness of the issue. Pratheesh and his organization, the Hindu Seva Kendra has intervened in 12500 odd cases and have rescued over 9000 victims of love jihad in Kerala. This has made him extremely unpopular with jihadi forces who are trying hard to convert Kerala into a Muslim majority state using every trick in the book.
Conclusion
With the killing of Salahudeen, the SDPI demonstrations have spilled onto the roads with the usual calls for blood and they have vowed revenge. Hundreds of their activists took to the streets and shouted slogans in what appeared like an organized show of protest. This is while the state is dealing with COVID pandemic. According to reports, they have openly threatened that RSS workers will be cut to pieces inside their own shakhas.
Hindu leaders who are on the forefront of the Sanatan dharma fight in sensitive places like Kerala already live with a sword over their head. The situation in Kerala is probably worse than in Bengal in terms of political murders. It would be prudent for the government of Bharat to ensure that leaders like Pratheesh Viswanath, who are a thorn in the eyes of Jihadis and communists both, be accorded adequate protection.

Kanchipuram is famous for temples. There are several Vishnu and Shiva temples in Kanchi town. This temple town is broadly divided into Vishnu Kanchi and Shiva Kanchi where one can find several Vishnu and Shiva temples respectively.
Out of 108 vaishnava kshetras known as divya deshams 14 are located in Kanchi town. The oldest stone inscription in Kanchi town dates back to the period BC 325-185 when mourya kings ruled Kanchi. Rishi Patanjali in his Maha Bhashya (2nd century BC) describes the Kanchi town as Kanchipurika. Thereafter Pallavas, Cholas, Pandyas and Vijayanagara kings ruled Kanchi.
Kanchi is popularly known for education. During the period 1st and 5th century AD there were several Jain and Buddhist religious and educational institutions in Kanchi town. The famous poet Kalidas (4th century AD) was full of praise of Kanchi and describes it as “nagareshu kanchi” which means Kanchi is the best and model town.
Pallava and Chola kings built and renovated several temples in Kanchi. One can find stone inscriptions in many Kanchi temples in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Sanskrit languages.
Muslim rulers and Golkonda Bijapur Sultans invaded Kanchi town.
Kanchi is known as Dakshina Kashi (South Kashi). In Garuda Purana, Kanchi is described as one of the best seven cities in Bharat that give salvation to the people, the other six being- Ayodhya, Mathura, Haridwar, Varanasi, Avantika and Dwaraka.
Kamakshi Temple
Devi Kamakshi gives darshan in padmasana posture, holding a bow made with sugar cane and lotus flower in her left hand, with a parrot on her right shoulder. Devi Kamakshi temple is one of the 51 shakti peetas.
This temple was built in 6th century AD by Pallava Kings. The name Kamakshi means as one who has Saraswati and Lakshmi as her two eyes (ka means saraswathi , ma means lakshmi and akshi means eye).
Ulagha Alanda Perumal Tempole
This temple is one of the 108 vaishnava divya deshas. Bhagwan Vishnu gives darshan in this place as Vamana Murthy. People worship him as Trivikram.
This temple was built during 846-869 AD by King 3rd Nandi Varma of Pallava dynasty and subsequently renovated by Pallava and Chola kings.
Varadaraja Perumal Temple
This temple is also one of the 108 Vaishnava divya deshas. It was built by Chola kings in 12th century AD.
This temple is built in 25 acres of land with two gopuras. Main gopuram is of 96 feet height. Bhagwan Varadaraja Perumal (Vishnu) gives darshan in this temple with four hands holding conch, discuss (chakra), mace (gada) and lotus flower respectively. There is a hundred pillars mantapa in this temple.
Ekambareswara Temple
Ekambareswara (Shiva) temple in Kanchi is one of the panchabhoota temples in south Bharat. The mango tree in this temple is 3,500 year old. This tree has four branches and each branch has a mango fruit with different taste. The four branches of this mango tree are considered to be as the four Vedas.
This temple was renovated by Pallava, Chola and Vijayanagara Kings. There is a thousand pillar mantapam in this temple. The main Raja gopuram is 57 feet high. The Sree Chakra in this temple is in the form of tortoise with 34 triangles known as Raja Yantra.
Others
Kanchipuram is also famous for idlis. In varadaraja perumal‘s temple they give idli as prasadam. They add ingredients like pepper, ginger and boil the idli on bauhinia leaves, that gives it a special falvour.
Kanchipuram silk sarees are world famous. The traditional handloom workers of Kanchipuram are highly skilled craftsmen who weave saree and its border separately, add design to the saree border and then mix it to the saree. However, one can not make out that both the saree and the border are woven separately and then joined together.
Though the saree may become old and torn the border of the saree will remain intact bearing testimony to the skills of these handloom workers.
In 2006, Indian Government accorded G.I. (Geographical Indication) tag to Kanchipuram sarees. History says that more than 4 centuries ago handloom weavers from Andhra Pradesh migrated and settled in Kanchi during Sri Krishna Devaraya’s period.
One finds a beautiful blend of traditional and modern cultures in Kanchi that symbolises Sanatana Dharma.
How to reach Kanchi? Kanchi is located at around 75 kms from Chennai. Kanchipuram has a raliway station.

In probably a first of its kind the world over, Kerala saw a Corona patient aged 19 get raped last weekend by an ambulance driver near Aranmula in Pathanamthitta district. The accused Noufal V (29) is reportedly a member of DYFI (CPM’s youth wing).
In another case, junior health inspector Pradeep has been charged with sexual assault of a home nurse who approached him to get a Covid-19 negative certificate in order to resume her service. Pradeep is reported to be a member of a Congress employees’ union in the state.
The 19-year-old Dalit girl, who had been in quarantine since both her mother and sister had been found positive and hospitalized, had just tested positive for Covid-19. Noufal was carrying her and another lady Covid-19 patient late at night. He dropped off the other patient at Kozhancherry first-line treatment centre and drove into a construction site near the now-abandoned Aranmula airport project where he raped the victim.
He then dropped the girl at Aranmula treatment centre where she informed the police about the crime. The horror drive that began at 10 in the night ended around midnight. Police picked up Noufal the same night calling him on the pretext of picking up another patient. Police have now confirmed that this incident was pre-planned. The accused has been charged for rape, assault, Prevention of SC/ST (Atrocities) Act and violation of Covid 19 safety protocol.
Noufal V, the ambulance driver and DYFI member, who raped a Covid-19 patient (Source: Newsminute)
The victim has also handed over a conversation which she had secretly recorded to the police. In that, Noufal can be heard asking for forgiveness and telling her that he would lose his job and his future if this incident comes to light. He also threatened her.
What enraged but didn’t surprise many is the fact that the very next day it was the CPM leaders who tried hard to bail out the criminal. Jackson, the state Vice President of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) affiliated with the CPM appeared at Adoor police station where Noufal was being held and stayed to offer him legal advice and assistance. Jackson also allegedly tried his best to hush up the rape without a case being registered. This again showed the nexus between CPM and criminal elements.
This incident also brought to light criminal lapses on the part of the state administration in handling Covid cases. Forget ambulance drivers, even motorcycle delivery boys attached to supermarkets in the state need to submit a Police Clearance Certificate (PCC) if selected. Noufal had submitted none and had in fact submitted a self-declaration stating that he has requested a PCC from the Kayamkulam Police Station.
Later reports confirmed that he had not submitted an application at the police station. Why would he since he had multiple criminal cases (even attempt to murder) registered at the same station. Anyone with a criminal history does not receive a PCC.
A closer look also reveals fascinating facts on how the SDPI-state nexus works, reiterating the fact that SDPI (political arm of the dangerous Islamist org PFI) linked criminals morph into CPM activists during the day.
Noufal is accused of being an ideology agent of the SDPI and is a just a link in a chain trying to convert Hindu women to Islam using the grooming/brain-washing (‘love jihad’) route. Around three years back, the parents of an engineer had accused Noufal of love jihad and for kidnapping their daughter. She had accompanied her grandfather to Kayamkulam Government Hospital for his treatment. Noufal befriended her at the hospital, converted the girl to Islam and married her. Local media mentioned intelligence reports that the SDPI was taking an active role in drugs and other criminal gangs centred around this Kayamkulam hospital.
It must be noted that SDPI leaders are also prime accused in the recent Bengaluru riots, while parent body PFI is in the dock for funding and organizing anti-CAA rioting in Delhi & West UP, and several PFI members have been arrested for organising Islamic State terror camps in Kerala.
The other case
In the second incident, the junior inspector Pradeep Kumar had asked the woman, a home nurse who was in quarantine in Thiruvananthapuram after returning from an assignment in Malappuram, to come to his flat to collect the Covid 19 negative certificate.
According to the victim’s complaint, her hands were tied and she was kept in the house through the night and sexually assaulted. The health inspector threatened her that he would get a case registered against her for jumping quarantine and get her arrested by police.
The accused has now been taken into custody and charged with sexual assault.
As per Deshabhimani.com, “Pradeep Kumar has a previous record that involving indecent advances towards an Anganwadi teacher. Residents in his neighbourhood said Pradeep shared close links with leaders of the Congress party and that he was an active member of the Health Inspectors’ Association.”
Conclusion
Both these cases highlight the perilous law & order situation in Communist-ruled Kerala, something which has been kept under wraps by the mainstream & Western media in their attempt to project Kerala as a model state.
Unusual as it may seem, the Kerala Government model of covid treatment involves hospitalization of all confirmed covid cases. A more pragmatic way of treatment would be to provide treatment for mild cases at home, something being followed the world over. Although respected and dedicated to her work with a relatively clean image, Health Minister Shylaja ‘Teacher’, as she is fondly called, seems to be losing the plot.
Questions begging Shylaja’s & CM Pinarayi Vijayan’s answers:
Why were two ladies allowed to be transported to Covid centres at 10’o clock in the night with neither emergency technicians nor lady nurses or health workers as specified in the Covid Protocol? They have since banned moving women patients after 8 in the night (unless its an emergency).
Why was the EMT missing or AWOL from the ambulance and where was he or she during this trip?
Why was the victim who lives at Adoor taken to Kozhancherry (a distance of 30 km) while the other lady was dropped at Pandalam which is barely 10 minutes drive from Adoor?
Why was Noufal, a known criminal, even allowed to drive an ambulance for the health department of the state?
Why were CPM party men trying to bail out Noufal? Why was CITU’s Jackson helping Noufal with legal aid? Wasn’t Shylaja shocked then, as she said she was when she heard about the rape?
Who is responsible for the criminal lapses that happened at EMRI (Emergency Management and Research Institute) since all 108 Ambulances are monitored from their control room at Thiruvananthapuram? What was the EMRI officer doing while Noufal was driving all over the place?
Would the first case of a corona/ covid patient being raped (in the whole world) be added to her impressive international media resume citing Kerala as the ‘number one state’ in Bharat?

A research paper by a Canadian think tank has exposed the relations of Pakistan with the separatists batting for “Khalistan”. This paper comes at an opportune moment as the banned group Sikhs for Justice has declared its intent to conduct an illegal referendum in Punjab in November, 2020. This group, based in USA, has recently declared that it will block train movements in Punjab on 13th of September in the run up to its “referendum.”
The Macdonald-Laurier Institute or MLI is a public policy think-tank in Canada and is non-partisan in nature. The paper has been authored by Terry Milewski, who has extensive experience of covering Bharat and has been visiting Bharat since 1967. He has extensive experience in journalism and had covered the Air India bombing case including its trial in Bharat and its inquiry in Canada. The paper can be downloaded in original from here.
Terrorists or Martyers?
The paper questions the martyrs of Khalistan movement. It takes the example of Talwinder Singh Parmar, who had been killed in an encounter with Bharatiya security forces in October, 1992. He is considered a martyr for Khalistan with his photos adorning the walls of many Gurudwaras in Canada.
The truth is that Parmar was wanted for murder in Bharat, when we escaped to Canada. In Canada, he was instrumental in planting bombs on two Air India flights. One of them AI 182 from Montreal to Heathrow was destroyed mid air with 329 lives lost! The other bomb killed 2 baggage handlers in Japan. It was the deadliest attack using planes in history before 9/11 and is Canada’s worst mass murder till date. To further his aims, Parmar had founded Babbar Khalsa, a terrorist organisation.
Of the six killed in that encounter, 2 were from Pakistani ISI. Rocket launcher, machine gun, AK 47s, grenedes and other ammunition was recovered from the dead bodies and the vehicle they were travelling in. Yet, Khalistanis take the line that Parmar was a shaheed and even blame Bharatiya agencies for the bombing!
Motives of Pakistan
Khalistan movement was the brainchild of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, who in 1973 told a group of reporters that ” Pakistan would tear off a piece of India – Khalistan – to avenge the loss of the 1971 war with India“. Under General Zia-ul-Haq, this mission gained more urgency as well as multiple dimensions.
According to Hussein Haqqani, former Ambassador of Pakistan to USA and currently working with a US think tank, Pakistan’s motives in this whole business were threefold:-
“Bleeding” Bharat was the first motive. Khalistan movement was created to inflict pain on Bharat and take revenge for 1971 war. Even though Haqqani or the paper does not mention it, we should remember that 1971 deeply impacted Pakistani psyche. It can be seen in the poem “Ham ke thehre ajnabi” by Pakistani poet Faiz Ahmed Faiz. Even until today the shameful surrender in Dhaka and independence of Bangladesh is a humiliation that Pakistanis have been unable to forget.
The second motive was to create a strategic buffer between Bharat and Pakistan. Perhaps, Haqqani here wants us to look at the 1965 war where Bharat opened a third front in Punjab and had reached Lahore, one of the biggest cities of Pakistan. It is clear that Pakistanis do not want a similar situation arising again.
The third motive is to cut off the access of Kashmir from Bharat. Without Punjab, it becomes very difficult to reach Kashmir. It would require passing from Rohtang Pass in Himachal to Ladakh and then Zozi La pass from Ladakh to Kashmir. To reach Jammu, one would require passing from Kashmir and then through Banihal pass. In contrast, Pakistan can easily pass into Kashmir from Haji Pir pass or even through its ally Khalistan’s area of Pathankot!
According to Haqqani, over time, Pakistan realized that the creating Khalistan is impossible as it has far less support in Punjab and Bharat is a strong state. It however keeps fanning Khalistan issue because the original motive of “bleeding” Bharat and inflicting pain on it is still possible.
Current leaders of Khalistan
The paper talks about the current leaders of Khalistan movement and their links with Pakistan. There are people like Gopal Singh Chawla, who lives in Pakistan and considers Hafiz Saeed as “ideal person”, but many are those who live in countries like USA, UK and most importantly Canada. These deny links with Pakistan and terrorism, but the evidence says otherwise.
In 2006, Khalid Awan, a Muslim of Pakistani descent, was convicted by a federal jury in New York (US Attorney’s Office 2006) of giving aid to the Khalistan Commando Force, a dreaded terrorist organisation. He was sentenced to 14 years in prison. Clearly, Pakistan does assist Khalistanis on American continent.
Many prominent Khalistanis like Satinderpal singh Gill lived for years in Pakistan as officials of banned terrorist organisations. Many like Bhagat Singh Brar and Parvkar Singh Dulai of Canada have been put on a no fly list by govt of Canada after the “Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) accused them of aiding Khalistani terrorist activities in India”. These activities were planned by ISI and these people have been found to be “linked to and co-operating with the Pak ISI” People like Dulai have also been found publicly supporting Babbar Khalsa by wearing their jackets etc.
Another leader is Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, who spearhead the Sikhs for Justice organisation. He has many a times expressed solidarity with Pakistan, despite atrocities on Sikhs in that country. He is on record saying “if India ever attacked Pakistan, the Pro-Khalistan Sikhs will extend full support to Pakistan.” in a letter to Pakistan PM Imran Khan.
The hypocrisy of Khalistan proponents
The claim of Khalistanis on Punjab is not supported by any argument. Some brief points are mentioned below:-
Sikh population was 15% in undivided Punjab. Muslims were 53% and Hindus 29% in Punjab according to census of 1941. After the partition too, Sikhs were a minority in East Punjab and this led to struggle for Punjabi Suba. Haryana and Himachal were separated from Punjab. However, even in current Punjab, Sikhs are about 58% with around 38-39% Hindus. Thus it is a shared homeland of Sikhs and Hindus, who have lived in harmony since centuries. Further, Christian conversions are increasing in Punjab and at the current rate, within a few years Sikhs will not even be simple majority in Punjab.
Khalistani activists turn a blind eye to atrocities on Sikhs in Pakistan. It is well known that from about 20 lakhs in 1947, today Sikhs are less than 10000 in Pakistan. There are frequent attacks on Gurudwaras with a recent one on Nankana Sahib itself.
The Sikh militancy in 1980s and 1990s did great harm to Punjab. Khalistani terrorists killed revered Sikh figures, Sikh cultural icons and ordinary Sikhs who were deemed insufficiently religious. Thus doctors were killed for conducting family planning operations while teachers killed for allowing students to wear modern dresses! Of course, this is never mentioned by Khalistani activists.
They do mention the horrible 1984 riots, which led to killing of thousands of Sikhs but do not mention massacres by Sikh extremists. Further, while thousands of Sikhs died in 1980s and 1990s fighting Khalistani terrorists, they are not mentioned. The genocide of Sikhs in West Pakistan in 1947, that killed 2.5 lakh Sikhs is not protested against and continuing ethnic cleansing of Sikhs in Pakistan is dealt with a deafening silence.
If this is not hypocrisy, I am not sure what is! This is one of the reasons that Khalistan has found no support in Bharat, where an overwhelming majority of Sikhs still live. This includes Sikhs who have live out of Punjab and have earned the respect of other communities through their hard work, sewa and friendly nature.
They have built prosperous businesses, achieved highest posts in Armed forces and even led the country as President and Prime Minister. Apart from 1984, which was a rare instance of political violence by Congress against Sikhs, no targeted violence against Sikhs has been recorded by Hindus.
Support for Khalistan in Bharat
This explains why Khalistan has not found any support in Sikhs of Bharat. In the 2017 elections, only one party Shiromani Akali Dal, Amritsar was seen explicitly pro-Khalistan. It was a major force in 1989 elections, when it had won 6 out of 13 Lok Sabha seats of Punjab.
However, in 2017 state elections, it could not get even 50000 votes in all of Punjab and joined the Communist parties at the bottom of the table. Its vote share was about 0.3%! The elections were won with a landslide majority by anti-Khalistan Capt. Amrinder Singh leading the Congress Party. On second place was the nationalist BJP-Akali Dal combine.
Revelations from Maps
The maps released by the Khalistan activists also reveal their motives, their hypocrisy and the Pakistani hand behind them. Consider the map below:-
Not only it includes Punjab, but also whole of Delhi, Haryana, Himachal and upto Bikaner in Rajasthan! The population of Sikhs in this area is not more than 15%, so this map is of course not based on population.
Let us say this map is based on Sikh historical sites. In that case, it does not include Lahore, the seat of Sikh power for the whole existence of Sikh empire. It does not even include Nanakana Sahib, where Guru Nanak was born or Kartarpur Sahib, where he attained mukti. Kartarpur is only 4 kilometres from Punjab’s border and Lahore a mere 30 km. But these are not included in the maps. The maps show, Haqqani says, that “groups like Sikhs for Justice are not willing to forgo Pakistani support.”
As for Canadian Khalistanis, he says, “these people are just being used…there’s no practical way they’re going to get anywhere.” He adds that “Khalistanis in Canada have very little stake in Punjab or India. It’s easy for them to live in a fantasy world – while those who live in Punjab and India live in the real world”
Conclusion
The report asserts that the Khalistanis repeat the same issue of persecution and genocide of Sikhs in Bharat and have succeeded in influencing the policy of Canadian and British governments to some extent. However, Bharat’s Sikh leaders have publicly rebuked Canada’s government on the issue. Capt Singh has been particularly vocal on this issue and has even proposed UN sanctions on Canada.
Khalistanis have tried to assume the new avatar of peaceful protesters. However, they retain connections with extremists and with Pakistani agencies. This movement is dangerous not only for Bharat, but also for Canada. According to the report, “It is the first time that the issue of an independent Khalistan had been elevated to among the top five national security issues for Canadians. “
Bharat should take the issues flagged in the report with all seriousness and try to engage with government as well as NRI and OCI Sikhs for wide dissemination of the findings and a discussion on the issue, informed by facts. Pakistan’s clear hand in this movement also gives it some headroom to “readjust” its policy towards Baloch groups based in countries of Europe and America.

In an unprecedented move that could have far-reaching consequences, the Telangana government is all set to give judicial powers to the Wakf board as declared by the Minister for Minority Welfare Koppula Eshwar while replying to a question raised by AIMIM (The All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen) Akbaruddin Owaisi during question hour in the Telangana assembly.
Telangana Todayquotes the Minister as saying “The Telangana government is committed to securing the valuable Wakf properties spread across the State and said that soon the government will call for a meeting with all the concerned regarding the delay in gazette notification of the details of the second survey of the Wakf lands. He also assured that the issue of conferring judicial status to Wakf Board will also be considered by the Chief Minister after the meeting”.
He also said that publishing in the gazette was delayed due to a number of objections raised during the process of verification. IIT Roorkee’s help was enlisted to digitize the demarcation process and geotag all the properties belonging to the Wakf board.
This move comes at a time when the judiciary and central government is trying to free Muslim society from the clutches of medieval shariah law. This was seen in the Triple Talaq and Nikah Halala issue. While the discussion should be about doing away with personal laws and implementation of a constitutionally recommended Uniform Civil code, the Telangana government is trying to take a step back into medieval times to continue getting support of Islamist AIMIM.
The step will also embolden Islamists of other states to seek such laws in their respective states. There is no doubt that secularists of all hues will also support such an imprudent decision, which is likely to establish Kangaroo courts manned by regressive Mullahs. The central government should advice the state government to desist from making this law and if necessary stop it using Governor’s powers.

Durban evangelist Simeon Bradley Chetty, of Revival Ministries, said his father was Telugu and his mother Tamil, that they had worshipped idols and “other gods”, and that the name of Jesus was above every other name. He said his parents had converted to Christianity. Picture: Facebook.
The South African Hindu Dharma Sabha has launched civil cases against evangelist, Simeon Bradley Chetty and reverend, Llewellyn Joseph in the Equality Court at the Chatsworth Magistrates Court, this week.
The sabha, represented by Attorney Shamin Rampersad and Associates, instituted legal proceedings in terms of section 20 of the Promotion of Equality and Prevention of Unfair Discrimination Act, 2000 (Act Number 4 of 2000).
Earlier this year, both pastors were accused of slandering the Hindu religion following a video which went viral on social media.
Ram Maharaj, the president of the South African Hindu Dharma Sabha, said, “Chetty referred to Hindus as ‘people, who worship idols and other Gods’. He also stated that ‘the name of Jesus is above every other name’. Rev Joseph denigrated Hindu Dharma and insulted Hindus by associating ‘the fear, that curse or those spirits’ with the sacred festival of Kavady.”
A high-powered team of advocates, attorneys, professors, religious experts and youth leaders, all of whom are members of the sabha, contributed to two comprehensive legal documents totaling 116 pages. The South African Hindu Youth Movement rendered support as well.
Vedhan Singh, head of the movement, said, “The truth is that, at last, vulnerable minority communities are fighting for their rights. All attention will be fixed upon the courts to deliver justice. Then only will peace prevail. Our world is sustained by truth, justice and peace.”
Members of the South African Hindu Dharma Sabha at the Chatsworth police station, where the charge was opened.
In addition to Chetty and Joseph, the other respondents cited are the Revival Ministries Church, the South African Human Rights Commission, as well as the Commission for the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Cultural, Religious and Linguistic Communities.
“Chetty’s and Joseph’s statements were deemed to be offensive, blasphemous, objectionable, hurtful, insulting, humiliating, discriminatory, incendiary, prejudicial, divisive, denigratory, derogatory, defamatory and inflammatory and amounted to hate speech. Their statements were devoid of truth, malicious, misleading and false and spins or perpetrates a fake narrative of Hindu culture, religion and community and brought the Hindu religion into contempt or ridicule.”
“Their comments were further deeply demeaning and invasive of the human dignity of members of the Hindu community. Moreover, their statements degraded the Hindu community’s belief system and practices and also advocated religious intolerance and superiority of one religion over others; thereby constituting a flagrant violation of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, Act Number 108 of 1996,” added Maharaj.
He stated that Hindus have suffered in silence from relentless religious maligning and marginalisation for far too long.
“It is now time for justice to be served in order that unfettered trampling upon Hindu sensitivities with relative impunity is deterred. Hindus respect all religions and we rightfully expect respect in return. In our new, all-inclusive, democratic dispensation, all religions are constitutionally guaranteed equal recognition, respect, status and treatment,” Maharaj continued.
According to Maharaj, millions of people have already been killed in the name of God under the guise of holy religious wars.
“Religious differences should not breed disrespect and hatred but be accommodated and celebrated,” he concluded. He pointed out that inter-religious respect, understanding, tolerance, goodwill and harmony are the cornerstones of social cohesion, unity in diversity, nation-building and human solidarity.
HinduPost comment:
However, Siven Samuels, who is the Revival Ministries’ lawyer, claimed the Hindu body does not have a case as Chetty was merely testifying.
“We have freedom of religion. Scripturally he was referring to the Bible, that anyone can turn to Jesus. He has done nothing legally and religiously wrong,” Samuel was quoted as saying.
In May, a video made by a police officer had targeted Hindus – protests forced the officer to apologise.

A temple tank in the Temple City of Madurai is set to see the light of the day as encroachments around it barring access for the float festival are ordered to be evicted by the Madras High Court branch. Koodal Azhagar temple is a majestic abode of Sri Vishnu and one of the 108 Divya Desams that was sanctified by the Vaishnavite saints known as Azhwars.
It dates back to the Sangam era and the reference to it can be found in Sangam literature as well. Finding mention in Paripaadal, Madurai Kanchi, and even Silapathikaram the temple and it’s presiding deity were sanctified by 4 Azhwars. This temple, apart from a tank inside the temple complex, has a vast temple tank at one of the busiest roads in Madurai, Town Hall road. But its presence can be known only by the fact that the roads on the east and west side of the tank are known as Perumal Theppam East & West road respectively.
There are said to be 195 shops around the tank that were initially just hand-pushed carts and slowly started being concretized into permanent structures with tin sheets with the tank wall as one of the walls. Gradually more shops started cropping up and the whole tank was hidden by the array of shops and except for the Mandapam in the middle of the tank, in a dilapidated state, the tank had all but disappeared. Apart from usurping the temple property, vendors began using the tank to let out wastewater and dump garbage. This resulted in the annual float festival being conducted only after the Shuddhi puja is performed every year.
In the past when the river Kirudhumal used to flow it is said that river-water fed the tank. After the river ran dry canals were built from the nearby water bodies to draw water to keep the tank filled. However, with all the inlets being blocked now and wastewater from the shops being let inside, the tank has become a drainage pit.
In 2011 taking it up suo moto based on an Indian Express news report about the neglected temple tank the Madurai bench of Madras High Court appointed an Advocate. It said that commercial establishments around the tank should be shifted to an alternative location as they marred the beauty of the tank.
The HR and CE Department was directed to file a report, along with photographs in a few days. The court also issued a directive to the State Archeology Department in 2013, to submit a report on whether the tank can be notified as an Ancient monument under the Tamilnadu Ancient and Historical Monuments and Archeological Sites and Remains Act, 1966 as reported by The Hindu.
It also reported an HRCE official as saying, “In the past, there were proposals to build a bazaar-like the ‘Paalika Bazaar’ in Delhi near the tank and to sink borewells inside the tank to supply water to residences of nearby areas, but they never took off. Our priority is to clean and restore the tank now,”.
People who have been living nearby and frequent the area often don’t remember the tank ever having water. Even when the streets around the tank are flooded in the rainy season the tank doesn’t retain water for more than a few days.
The tank is spread over a sprawling 1.74-acre land and said to have hosted a grand floating festival in the month of Masi (March-April) every year. The State archeological Department found beautiful sculptures around the tank wall and had estimated the renovation cost to be around ₹ 34 lakhs back in 2017. At that time 53 shops were said to have been removed from the south side of the tank which revealed the steps. While it was estimated to be the biggest eviction drive in Madurai, due to incessant appeals by different parties, mostly shop owners, it has taken 6 long years to evict 93 shops, that too in the same south side.
The Madurai Koodal Alagar temple tank, dated right from Sangam age was totally hidden by a number of shops run by those ‘not to be named’. Thankfully it is getting a facelift due to courts intervention. Hoping to see the Theppam festival celebrated soon with its full glory pic.twitter.com/64dpIsrwkn
The names of the shops and appellants reveal what is hindering the process of renovation and a possible angle of land jihad.
Naseem, a sub-tenant of one Sultan, who had encroached the temple tank filed a Civil Revision Petition in the MMHC which was dismissed with a cost of ₹ 10,000 in July 2019. Another petition filed by Naseem was dismissed in 2017 as his counsel wasn’t present during the hearing.
Again in September 2019, the same person filed a special leave petition asking for a settlement which was also dismissed.
One Jahir Hussain, on behalf of the shop owners, filed a writ petition in the Madurai bench in 2014. HC squashed the eviction notice issued by the Assistant Commissioner, HRCE citing lapse in the procedure.
Fighting all these legal hurdles the eviction drive has begun and nearly 95 shops on the south side of the tank have been demolished. Meanwhile, the corporation officials have planned to divert rain-water flooding the streets elsewhere towards the temple tank as the Vaigai river no longer has water to be drawn from.
The civic body has constructed storm-water drains to bring the stagnant rain-water to the tank. As they are on a roll to restore temple tanks in order to pull back the abysmal level to which Madurai’s groundwater table has fallen, and devotees are hopeful that the temple tanks will be renovated to have the Teppam (float) actually float on the water instead of just being carried around.

Former Supreme Court Judge and Chairman for the Press Council of India, Justice Markandey Katju, will depose as a witness for absconding diamond merchant Nirav Modi, prime accused along with his uncle Mehul Choksi in the INR 14,000 crores ($2 billion) Punjab National Bank (PNB) scam.
“I will be deposing tomorrow (through video conferencing) in a UK Court as a witness for Nirav Modi. But I would not be commenting on the merits of the case and will only say that he (Nirav) will not get justice in India“, Katju told Economic Times.
Nirav Modi is currently in a UK jail, and a court there is holding a trial on Bharatiya government’s plea seeking extradition of the fugitive economic offender who fled Bharat in 2018. He was arrested in London last year and has been denied bail several times as he was deemed a flight risk. Mehul Choksi meanwhile is holed up in Antigua & Barbuda – the govt. there has cancelled his citizenship and he should be extradited once all his legal remedies are exhausted.
Justice Katju has opined against the Bharatiya government’s plea seeking Nirav Modi’s extradition from UK. Quite extraordinarily, the ex-Judge of the Supreme Court of Bharat has run down the very institution he was a part of, that too in front of a foreign power.
In a written statement already submitted to the UK court, he has claimed that “Nirav Modi is unlikely to get a free and fair trial in India, as he has already been convicted by the Indian media and the current establishment”. He added that the Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, in one of his press conferences, has already labelled Nirav Modi as a “criminal”.
Nirav Modi and Mehul Choksi are accused of swindling huge loans obtained through fraudulent Letters of Undertaking and Foreign Letters of Credit obtained from PNB with aid of crooked bank employees. They had been availing loans using this fraudulent route for around a decade. Some alert bank employees finally realized the scam and informed CBI. Mehul Choksi and Nirav Modi & his family absconded in early 2018, days before the news of the scam broke in Bharat.
In December 2019, a special PMLA court in Mumbai declared Nirav Modi as a Fugitive Economic Offender. The court has recently ordered confiscation of Nirav Modi’s property worth 1,400 crores, which ED has started acting upon. Investigators have unearthed how the fraudsters with help of their family and few employees illegally smuggled out diamonds and other valuables stashed across the world to avoid recovery by authorities.
Nirav Modi is currently wanted by authorities in Bharat, Interpol, and other police departments across the world!
And this is the man that a retired SC judge has a problem with being labelled ‘criminal’! So was Vikas Dubey a criminal or not in eyes of Justice Katju? Can we call the likes of Dawood Ibrahim a ‘terrorist’ or we have to wait before he is tried and pronounced guilty by a court of law?
What is more, the retired Supreme Court Judge said that Nirav Modi will be made a “scapegoat” for the ‘failure of Indian government to arrest the declining economy’. Attacking the judiciary, Justice Katju has said Bharat’s judiciary is “committed” to the Executive, is “no longer independent”, and a fair trial of Nirav Modi is not expected in Bharat.
Background on Justice Katju
Justice Katju is a bit of a loose cannon, to put things mildly. An archetypal secularist of the Kuldeep Nayyar, Rajinder Sachar and Prashant Bhushan mould, Katju is as self-righteous as the rest of them.
Not surprisingly, Justice Katju is upset with last year’s Ayodhya Ram Mandir verdict where a 5-member SC bench delivered a unanimous verdict in favour of Hindu petitioners who had been fighting a 135-year-long legal battle to reclaim one of their holiest sites. He has called this the most “shameful verdict” after the ADM Jabalpur judgment of 1976 which upheld the excesses of Indira Gandhi’s Emergency.
Let’s look at some other past gems from Justice Katju:
50% of higher judiciary (SC and High Courts) is corrupt.
ex-CJI Ranjan Gogoi is ‘shameless, sexual pervert, rascal, rogue…full of vices’.
#MeToo movement (in which several sexual predators from Left academia, ad world, Bollywood and other spheres were outed) is a ‘tamasha’ (drama).
The kind of harassment/bullying @priyankadeo is subjected to is appalling and more so because so many of us are seeing it and looking the other way like it's normal.
Honestly, the very fact a Markandey Katju rose to become a judge in the highest court of the land is reason enough to question the effectiveness of the opaque and dubious Collegium System whereby a clique of SC judges gets to decide which judges are to be appointed to SC and High Courts. All the talk of judicial independence being under threat due to Modi government is balderdash spread by left-liberal malcontents who cannot digest the fact that a few judgements have gone against their diktats.
As the Law Minister has written, the independence of the judiciary was only ever seriously threatened during Indira Gandhi’s Emergency, and the current trend of launching vicious campaign against judges in the event of an adverse verdict is what really threatens judiciary’s independence.
It is high time that elected representatives were given a say in the appointment of judges, and the entire process made more transparent and meritocratic. The nation has suffered incompetent and/or pompous gasbags in important constitutional posts for far too long.

Ekta Kapoor’s web series for their platform AltBalaji and Zee 5 has insulted Hindu icon Punyashlok Ahilya Devi Holkar who is held in high regard not just for standing up for Hindu rights as a true Kshatrani but also for her service towards Hindu Dharma and its revival.
Padmashri Awardee and Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Vikas Mahatme has written to Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javdekar complaining about the OTT web series titled “Virgin Bhasskar” which purportedly depicts a sex scandal in a girl’s hostel which has been surreptitiously named “Ahilyabai Girl’s Hostel”.
Dr. Mahatme has requested the minister to take appropriate action taking into consideration the sentiments of the citizens of this country who venerate Ahilya Devi Holkar and also to ensure that the image of the inspirational leader is not tarnished through such shows.
Punyashlok Ahilya Devi Holkar was the daughter-in-law of Malhar Rao Holkar who established the Holkar kingdom at Malwa. She was widowed at a young age and took over the reins of the kingdom in her hand after her husband passed away in 1766.
She was known not just for her wisdom and administrative ability but also for serving the Hindu cause by rebuilding several Hindu temples, provided facilities for pilgrims, and renovated several ghats. This she did not only in Maheshwar, her capital, and Indore but also all over the country. Indeed, famous temples broken by Aurangzeb including Vishvanath and Somnath were rebuilt by her. Her works can be seen in Kashi, Gaya, Somnath, Ayodhya, Mathura, Hardwar, Kanchi, Avanti, Dwarka, Badrinath, Rameshwar, Jaganath Puri and various other places throughout the country. All this makes her a true national icon.
She fought many wars while personally leading armies into battle. By her efforts, Holkar state had become so powerful that it could not be defeated by British even in Second Maratha War! Despite all these, her residential quarters very very humble and can be seen even today in Maheshwar.
She was the only woman who was ruling a large state in 18th century Bharat, and did so admirably well. There can be no better example of women empowerment and Hindu idea of gender-equality. In fact, her life can be cited against the colonial propaganda of women oppression in Hindu society.
Associating the great ruler’s name with a sex scandal site is not just inappropriate and insulting but also disrespecting her contributions towards the country. Since OTT content is not regulated such derogatory content, targeting young adults who are at an impressionable age, gets aired.
In this regard, both Zee 5 and Ekta Kapoor are repeat offenders. Their scant regard for national icons in general and Hindus, in particular, has come forth the time and again. Readers may recall how Zee 5 had provided a platform for the Tamil web series “Godman” that demonized Brahmins and promoted Hinduphobia.
After criticism of several web series, there was talk of many OTT platforms signing a ‘self-censorship code’. But clearly, as ‘Sacred Games’, ‘Ghoul’, ‘Leila’, ‘Pataal Lok’ and now ‘Godman’ show – Hindu bashing and demonizing Hindu Dharma is considered par for the course by many ‘creative’ people involved in the film & entertainment industry.
It is time for the Government’s I&B ministry to crack down on such Hinduphobic content. Targeting of a particular community and the intent to malign Hindu religion is as clear as daylight, yet such content is increasing by the day while opponents deride the Modi government for ‘fascism’!
And now they have added “nationalism-phobia” to their Hinduphobic agenda whereby they have taken it upon themselves to insult national icons through overt and covert means; be it army, freedom fighters, or erstwhile rulers.
Ekta Kapoor’s AltBalaji had previously come out with the web series “XXX Uncensored” that was supposedly based on the lives of army personnel. In the said series she had depicted Armymen’s wives as promiscuous and behaving in a scandalous manner when their husbands are away serving at the border.
The Defence Ministry (MoD) stepped in and wrote to the CBFC (Central Board of Film Certification) objecting to the distorted representation of the men in uniform after Martyrs Welfare Foundation (MWF) raised strong objections against the show stating that it had insulted the army and military men by depicting scenes where the uniform of the army men bearing the Ashoka statue and Taj symbols are torn apart.
In an attempt to ‘spice up’ their content, producers such as Ekta Kapoor and Karan Johar have shown scant regard to people’s sentiments and factual details. For them, all that seems to matter is setting the cash registers ringing even if it comes at the cost of insulting our national icons.
Unregulated OTT content has allowed them to escape with almost everything under the sun in the name of creative license. What’s worse? It targets a segment that is most impressionable and vulnerable. The target audience is generally teens and young adults whose views are moulded by what they see on screen.
It doesn’t augur well for the nation when its future generations are fed with content that only creates contempt and disrespect for national icons in their minds. The line has to be drawn somewhere and the buck has to stop with someone – be it the I&B Ministry or the CBFC. Now is the time to regulate OTT content.

Many Hindus are quite gullible. They go above and beyond in accommodating those who hate them, even when doing so brings about their own downfall. Even worse, they embrace anyone who has a ‘Indian’ or ‘Hindu’ name, can put on a nice Saree or a Bharatiya outfit and say ‘Namaste.’
Recently, a group of Hindu chaplains created the North American Hindu Chaplains Association (NAHCA) and hosted the first conference on May 23-24, 2020. Interestingly, no major mainstream Hindu spiritual group, temple or student organization was invited to co-host or speak at this potentially landmark launch with serious long term implications for the Hindu community in North America (something to question these representatives of Hindus on campuses about).
However, more disturbing was the fact that one of their ‘Resources Specialists’ was Sadhana and its co-founder Sunita Viswanath, who also spoke and was featured prominently at the conference. Then, on June 13th, I received a twitter message informing me that Viswanath was appointed as the Hindu chaplain at Columbia University by the Hindu Students Organization there (they are not connected with any national group)!
I cannot begin to say how problematic this decision (made by the uninformed and gullible students of the Columbia group) is for the Hindu community. Did they not do their research on her? How can they expect someone with a long history of anti-Hindu activism and views to be a representative of the Hindu community at Columbia? What makes them think that someone who has started two Hindu sounding groups with the sole job of deprecating Hindus and Bharat in the name of ‘progressive Hinduism,’ will not bring her views to Columbia?
But, more importantly, her appointment as the chaplain essentially legitimizes her bigotry towards the Hindu communityrather than providing an authentic representation of the Hindu faith on campus (one reason why no major Hindu organization works with Viswanath and Sadhana). After all, no faith will ever appoint as its representative a person who works persistently with others to demonize that very faith.
Why don’t many Hindus do their due diligence even when our community has such bright people? Are they lazy? Do they have ‘intellectual blinders’ on? Or, are they so naive that they cannot spot a wolf in sheep’s clothing?
Viswanath is a co-founder of ‘Sadhana: A Coalition of Progressive Hindus’ (“Sadhana”), Hindus for Human Rights (“HFHR”) and the Coalition Against Fascism in India (“CAFI”). The first two lend a ‘Hindu’ voice to a nexus of organizations, groups and individuals who constantly demonize Hindu Dharma via propaganda and blatant misinformation – conjuring up images of Hindu savagery and oppression and calling for an outright dismantling of Hindu Dharma as a religion. The third organization is a nexus of such organizations in itself, and contains groups who have supported jihadists and those who call Hindu Dharma ‘a religion of violence.’
What follows is an overview of Viswanath’s activism as well as that of Sadhana, HFHR and some of the other groups she has co-founded or partners closely with. It illustrates how she works hand in glove with individuals and organizations known for their Hinduphobic and hateful propaganda. Viswanath is a key driving force and intellectual engine in all three groups and is often the sole voice representing them (and hence their views cannot be separated from hers).
Support for Holi Against Hindutva
As illustrated below, Viswanath, Sadhana, HFHR and CAFI, have openly supported and actively donated to a group called Holi Against Hindutva (“HAH,” now called Students Against Hindutva Ideology or “SAHI”).
On March 3, 2020, Viswanath penned a letter of support for HAH on behalf of HFHR, applauding the group’s “creative approach…[and]…the youthful energy.”
On March 12, 2020, Sadhana also published a series of tweets in full support of HAH, with Sadhana board member Nikhil Mandalaparthy going to great pains to show how HAH’s campaign is not anti-Hindu. In his article, Madalaparthy demonized the hundreds of students and groups who opposed this blatant misuse of Holi as ‘Hindutva extremists.’
HAH was started by Shreeya Singh and a few (mostly non-Hindu) students at Yale University. It caused massive controversy by weaponizing the popular Hindu festival of Holi for its political propaganda and spreading Hinduphobia.
In fact, my earlier post provided detailed information on how this group and its supporters have openly denigrated Hindu symbols, festivals and deities to serve their nefarious purposes.
However, in the context of why Viswanath’s and her groups’ endorsements are a huge problem, it is important to reiterate a few relevant points about HAH:
First, the group has declared Holi as a casteist, violent and misogynist festival that celebrates the burning of a lower caste woman – a patently false claim given that the festival actually celebrates victory of good over evil and the ‘woman’ in question here was actually a princess (thus not lower caste, as shown in my post).
Second, the “Open Letter” page of HAH (which is signed by Sadhana, HFHR and CAFI) uses an image from a protest at Jamia Milia Islamia University in New Delhi. The woman at the center of the image is Ladeeda Sakhaloon, one of the most controversial figures of the protests.
On December 11, 2019, Sakhaloon posted a message on her social media page, calling for ‘Jihad’ along the lines of historic battles fought by Muslims with the intervention of Allah. Could you imagine the backlash, had a Hindu organization put an image of a Hindu inciting war against minorities based on some Hindu historical incident? Yet, the South Asian activists get away with such outright display of hatred and have a seal of approval from individuals like Viswanath.
Third, another key supporter of Holi Against Hindutva is Equality Labs. Equality Labs is a South Asian organization (and the brainchild of Dalit activist Thenmozhi Soundararajan) whose sole focus has been Hindu baiting and to demonize Hindu Dharma via the lens of race, caste, gender and minority atrocities. It aims to show that Hindu Dharma = Casteism = Racism, a line of thinking popular among many South Asian groups such as Sadhana, HFHR, CAFI and others (in fact, these groups are using such dangerous propaganda on the back of the Black Lives Matter movement).
It projects Hindus in Bharat as angry, casteist mobs, killing minorities on a daily basis, as well as Hindus in the US as supporters of such violence (something that Viswanath also does without any proof). On March 2, 2020, Equality Labs wrote a highly pejorative article about why everyone should reject the popular Holi festival because it endorses casteism and violence against women and other minorities.
Twisting and conflating many things about the Hindu festival, Equality Labs conjured up an image of Hindu savagery where none existed. Among its many explosive claims, the group declared:
“Holi also further reifies Brahmanical Patriarchy by encouraging casteist and sexist slurs that are ritually hurled at Holika’s figure as part of the ritual. This translates into the widespread violence against femmes in cities where Holi is practiced, creating a turbulent and frightening environment where gender based harassment attacks rise during this time. This includes groups of men throwing balloons filled with rocks, water, or even semen at femmes who are walking in the street. We cannot expect more from a festival whose heart is quite literally the burning of an Indigenous woman.” (emphasis mine).
Imagine the gross depiction and dangerous lies here for a moment – rocks and semen being thrown at women? Wow!
This is a perfect example of the types of falsities and outright bigotry peddled by these South Asian groups and supported by Viswanath and others.
Similarly, on January 31, 2020, Sharmin Hossain, who serves as the Political Director of Equality Labs, blasted Hindu Dharma as nothing but casteist, and that any attempt to “salvage Hinduism” is “dominant caste rhetoric.” Thus, Hossain and Equality Labs are clear about their hatred and that Hindu Dharma cannot be separated from caste no matter what. Of course, Hossain, a Bangladeshi Muslim, has no expertise in Hindu Dharma. But, that doesn’t stop her from spewing such venom.
Partnership with Equality Labs
Viswanath has been closely working with Equality Labs for many years, and they often support each other’s works and political propaganda. For example, Sadhana’s syllabus on Hindu Dharma recommends the caste survey by Equality Labs, along with writings by Soundararajan. Viswanath (often the only representative from Sadhana or HFHR) is often seen shoulder to shoulder in many rallies that portray Hindus as savages out to destroy minorities in Bharat (see here, here and here).
In a 2019 article, where the Indian American community celebrated the landslide victory of the Modi government, Soundararajan minced no words when equating Hindu Dharma with fascism. Lamenting on the repeat victory of a democratically elected government, Soundararajan decried with uber hyperbole: “…the fascists of India have now revealed themselves. Hindu Savarna fear has trumped any sense of reality and understanding of the violence that will come against Indian caste and religious minorities. The time now will be to challenge everything.”
Indeed, since then, Viswanath, Sadhana, HFHR, CAFI, Equality Labs and the entire nexus has unleashed loads of Hinduphobic articles, events, blogs, ‘toolkits,’ etc. to bolster their propaganda.
Similarly, as we will see next, Sadhana and Equality Labs worked closely with organizations connected to evangelicals, radical leftists and Islamists to push for continued biased against Hindu Dharma in 6th Grade California textbooks.
Endorsing bias against Hindu Dharma in 6th grade California textbooks
In 2017, Viswanath and Sadhana threw their full supportagainst Hindu parents in California fighting biased portrayals of Hindu Dharma vis-a-vis other major world religions in 6th grade textbooks. Without respecting the sentiments of their own community and caring for the ongoing bullying faced by these children, Viswanath and Sadhana declared these parents and kids as extremists and ‘right wing.’
That is even after the fact that Viswanath and Sadhana admitted that they had not done full research on the issue. The petition was started by a group called South Asian Histories For All, co-founded by none other than Equality Labs’ Soundararajan.
Hinduphobic activism by South Asian Histories For All: How does asking for a fair portrayal of Hindu Dharma translate to ‘Islamophobic edits’? (Picture source: ASATA/South Asian Histories For All)
A post from my 2011 website provided details on some of the key players involved in opposing a fair treatment of Hindu Dharma and gagging the voices of Hindu parents and children – all in the name of exposing students to “critically reflect on the complexities that have shaped religious and social life in South Asia.”
One such player is the Dalit Freedom Network (DFN), a hardcore evangelical group based out of Colorado. DFN’s objective is to convert Hindus in Bharat using the trope of ‘caste persecution.’ John Gilman, one DFN’s board members has openly declared the following about their plans for Bharat and the Hindus:
“The worship of a hundred million gods will disappear. Idolatry will be cast down. But, what will replace it? National Dalit leaders plead to the Church in India, saying, ‘Come and tell us about your Jesus. Teach us your scriptures.’ They believe this is the only hope for India, a nation that could be on the brink of a bloody civil war – or on the brink of an outpouring of the Holy Spirit unlike any in history. There has never been a better soul-winning opportunity than right now in the nation of India.”
Similarly, court documents retrieved during a 2007 lawsuit by a group called CAPEEM revealed shocking details about how DFN colluded with Harvard Professor Michael Witzel and others to advance inaccurate theories about Hindu Dharma and the caste system. DFN advised the professor to insist on Dalits in his responses to the California Board of Education and falsely emphasize that “only women had worse rights” than Dalits in ancient Bharat.
A 2006 document archived by CAPEEM also laid bare how Michael Witzel, self-styled researcher Steve Farmer and Benjamin Marsh (director of DFN in Washington, D.C.) worked together to ensure that efforts of Hindu groups are challenged vehemently and that this nexus receives political support from Congressman Trent Franks and others.
Another prominent organization fighting against Hindu parents was Friends of South Asia (FOSA). FOSA’s key activists included Angana Chatterji, who has been well-known for her anti-Hindu activism.
In 2003, FOSA, along with Angana Chatterji, organized a discussion on Kashmir at the University of Calfornia, Berkeley. One of the main speakers of the event was Dr. Ghulam Nabi Fai from the Kashmiri American Council. On Tuesday, July 19, 2011, the Federal Bureau of Investigation of the US arrested Fai on charges of being an agent of the ISI, the Pakistani spy agency. Fai was active in lobbying against Bharat on behalf of the Pakistani government to bring about the separation of Kashmir from Bharat.
Finally, one of HFHR’s other board members is Raju Rajagopal, the founder of another West Coast based leftist subgroup (EKTA/Coalition Against Communalism). Rajagopal and EKTA used to host the websites of other leftist member groups and subgroups that were created by the Forum of Inqualabi Leftists (FOIL).
Rajagopal also actively opposed Hindu parents in the California textbook controversy, arguing that such biased views were important, because “…exposing our children to India’s vibrant pluralistic and ‘argumentative’ traditions, and encouraging classroom discussions on the legacies of racism, caste and gender bias, will serve them better as future citizens, whether of the US or of India.”
That may be true in higher grade classroom or a college-grade classroom; however, such ‘healthy discussions’ do not happen in 6th grade classes in the US. Instead, Hindu kids only sit with their heads down in utter dismay, are subjected to intense bullying and feel embarrassed to be a Hindu. Rajagopal should perhaps avail himself to giggles, snide reactions and outright hate by non-Hindus by sitting in the 6th grade class himself!
Endorsing those who demean Hindu deities, symbols and leaders
June 6th tweet by the Indian American Muslim Council (IAMC), using Trishul (holy symbol of Hindus associated with Lord Shiva) as a symbol of oppression. IAMC also used the death of George Floyd for its own activism, while calling Triple Talaq (a highly misogynistic law against Muslim women) a ‘fascist’ ploy, as seen on the list on the left.
This coalition’s members have a history of attacking Hindus and Hindu Dharma for many years, openly supporting separatism, a bigoted and violent political agenda, and even terrorism. Consider the following to illustrate their dangerous and vitriolic views about Hindu Dharma:
The Alliance for Secular and Democratic South Asia (ASDSA) has known ties to individuals who have openly supported the violent Maoist terrorism in Bharat. In 2001, M.V. Ramana, a member of ASDSA, wrote a Hinduphobic article, “The Bomb of the Blue God,” juxtaposing the image of Hindu deity Shri Krishna on a bomb and linking the sacred text Bhagavad Gita to violence.
Similarly, India Civil Watch’s (ICW’s) key member and spokesperson, Raja Joseph Swamy (alias Raja Harish Swamy) has extensive links to bigots like Kancha Ilaiah who have called Hindu Dharma a “religion of violence.” In fact, Swamy has personally demonized Hindu Dharma as inherently and necessarily oppressive and violent. According to Swamy:
“Hindu ‘dharma’ is caste-based; Hinduism is casteism; to be Hindu means to belong to a caste, and not as it is in most religions, to merely subscribe to a set body of beliefs. Hinduism has no universal religious requirements; therefore it is sufficiently open to interpretation along lines that are outrageously oppressive.”
In addition to the above examples, in 2010, Viswanath and fellow Sadhana co-founder Rohan Narine were at the center of a controversy around a cartoon called Sita Sings The Blues by Nina Paley.
The cartoon portrays the sacred Hindu text the Ramayana and key Hindu deities in a highly pejorative manner – from belittling Hindu deities, to portraying them as blood thirty, misogynist or simply bizarre. In one instance, Shri Rama, one of the most revered Hindu deities, is shown as walking over and kicking his pregnant wife Sita! In another instance, Sita, who is also a very revered Hindu deity, is portrayed as a blood thirsty woman.
Upon seeing the cartoon in 2010, a senior Hindu community member (and Narine’s own father) expressed deep sadness and remarked: “Having seen this movie for the first time a few days ago I am in a position to make an informed comment. The movie distorts the Ramayana and makes a mockery of what we have held sacred for generations.”
However, Viswanath blasted the Hindu community for raising its voice against such inaccurate and Hinduphobic portrayals, concluding that “…Sita Sings the Blues is a wonderful way to keep Hindu mythology alive.” It is astonishing that Viswanath elevates the cartoon’s stature as a “wonderful way to keep Hindu mythology alive” as if no other TV series, children’s book, animated movie, etc. has ever done justice to the story of the Ramayana at the level of Paley’s story! And, how many Hindu organizations, temples, spiritual personalities and leaders would concur with Viswanath’s endorsement above?
But, Sadhana’s dislike for Shri Rama and the Ramayana continued. One of the ‘anonymous’ Sadhana members wrote a blog reinterpreting the story of Sita’s Agnipariksha (test by fire) through skewed lens of feminism and marginalization.
In the blog entry, she belittled Shri Rama as “a god king [who] isn’t grown-up enough to simply ignore idle gossip after the first trial…” and then goes on to declare: “Because all the Sitas are also fresh out of fucks, and we want a lot more than a safe space away from sorry kings. We want an end to the slut-shaming. We want the justice system, in its required adherence to evidence to stop policing and punishing women more than it ever upbraids or holds men accountable.” Such egregious comments demonstrate an utter lack of understanding of the Ramayana and a disdain for things Hindu.
In December 2019, Sadhana endorsed a convoluted and Hinduphobic article on “Bharat Mata,” (India depicted as mother), where the author claimed that this symbol, held in high reverence by hundreds of millions of Bharatiyas and Hindus is actually a “…RSS-constructed, savarna [meaning upper caste], North Indian, Aryan vision of the mother” who can only bear sons.
Mouthful indeed! Furthermore, the same author claimed that famous Hindu freedom fighters and spiritual leaders like Sri Aurobindo and Bankimchandra Chattopadhyay were architects of Hindu nationalism and endorsed hatred towards Muslims (both leaders revered Bharat as a female form of the divine).
However, selective history and propaganda can only go so far. Viswanath, Sadhana and this author conveniently hide the fact that the idea of ‘Bharat Mata’ became a uniting factor in Bharat in the early 20th century.
So much so that in 1918, Mahatma Gandhi inaugurated the Bharat Mata Temple in Varanasi (Banaras) in the presence of Sardar Patel and Abdul Gaffar Khan. Looking back on this spectacular phenomenon, Jawaharlal Nehru wrote in his autobiography: “It is curious how one cannot resist the tendency to give an anthropomorphic form to a country…India becomes Bharat Mata…Some such pictures rouse the emotions of hundreds of thousands.”
Similarly, the great freedom fighter Chandrashekar Azad, who was sentenced to 15 whip lashes by the British, cried “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” at every single lash. Are all these freedom fighters and leaders ‘Hindutva extremists’ because they embraced the idea of Bharat Mata?
What Viswanath, Sadhana and their cohorts conveniently fail to mention is that Sri Lanka’s national anthem starts with “Sri Lanka Matha….Namo Namo Matha” and is sung by all, including Muslims. Similarly, the national anthem of Bangladesh (a Muslim majority country) is “Amar Sonar Bangla,” and has words that translate to “O Mother mine, the words from your lips are nectar to my ears.” Are these countries endorsing ‘Hindu extremism?’
But, Viswanath, Sadhana and the rest of the ‘progressive Hindu’ gang has perfected the formula of conjuring up Hinduphobia out of thin air.
Supporting those who deny genocide of Kashmiri Hindus
In September of 2019, Viswanath wrote about HFHR’s participation in a rally organized by Stand With Kashmir (“SWK”), a separatist group that has completely whitewashed the documented genocide of Kashmiri Hindu Pandits about 30 years ago and their rights to their ancestral land.
HFHR fully endorsed SWK and participated in the rally, which was conveniently titled “Let Kashmir Speak” (of course, only Kashmiri Muslim voices mattered). HFHR expressed ‘sadness’ for Kashmiri Muslims, who, according to HFHR, have suffered tremendously at the hands of the Indian government (a false claim at best). Yet, not a single tear of sadness fell for the Kashmiri Hindus who were raped, killed, tortured and thrown out by their own Muslim neighbors and the terrorists.
What’s more, Rajagopal saw a counter protest by Kashmiri Hindus across the street and essentially accused them of “…[throwing] in their lot with the brutal actions of India and Hindutva forces…” Thus, Viswanath, Rajagopal and HFHR declared that Kashmiri Hindu voices are not genuine and labeled them as ‘stooges’ of a ‘brutal India and Hindutva forces.’ It is important to that this theme has been pervasive across Viswanath’s groups and activism.
Interestingly, one of the supporters of SWK is none other than Ghulam Nabi Fai, while another one is Angana Chatterji. As mentioned, earlier, Fai was arrested by the FBI for his role as an agent of Pakistan lobbying the US government to take actions against Bharat. Chatterji worked very closely with Fai, as demonstrated earlier.
In summary, the above information sheds light on the Hindu baiting and outright bias of Sunita Viswanath, Sadhana, Hindus For Human Rights and a coterie of South Asian organizations masquerading as champions of human rights, social justice and equality. Their voices only come out for issues faced by non-Hindus while gagging Hindu voices or dismissing them as ‘Hindutva extremists.’
Their disdain for Hindu symbols, festivals, deities and spiritual leaders is prominent in almost every step of their ‘South Asian’ advocacy. Can they dare to accord such treatment to other major religions of South Asia like Islam, or even Christianity, in the name of ‘minority rights,’ ‘caste atrocities,’ ‘social justice,’ ‘feminism,’ and every other buzzword in their toolkit?
The students at Columbia University, the chaplains at NAHCA and all those who may come across these groups should take note. Read, research, expose, repeat.
