Hindus under attack: a weekly roundup of hate crimes, persecution, and discrimination against Hindus

Attacks on Hindus and Hindu Dharma, both in Bharat and overseas, are frequent and unrelenting. In many regions of the world, this persecution is like a genocide slowly unfolding before our eyes. For decades, the world has ignored the actual depth and breadth of these attacks, driven by disturbing anti-Hindu bigotry. From murders, forced conversions, land grabs, assault on festivals, desecration of temples and murtis, hate speech, and sexual violence to institutionalized & legal discrimination, Hindus are facing an increasing assault on their very existence along with an unprecedented Hindu hatred.

In this weekly summary for the period from 24 July to 30 July 2022, we hope to provide a snapshot of such crimes and hopefully awaken more people around the world to this human rights crisis:

Bharat

1) A Hindu girl was raped and pressurized to convert to Islam by one Firdaus Khan. The girl and the accused are residents of Titgaon village of Khandwa district, MP. Khan had been stalking the 18-year-old girl for a year, i.e., since she was a minor.

2) On 24 July, Sherkot Police received information about 2 Muslim brothers, Adil & Kamal, ransacking an Islamic Sufi shrine, Jalal Shah Mazar, & burning several chadars (shroud or sheet of the cloth offered by devotees to cover the tomb of a Sufi pir). They had tied a saffron-colored cloth on their heads to appear like Kanwariyas.

3) Congress reiterated its anti-Hindu character last week. During a meeting to felicitate the party’s Gujarat unit’s newly-appointed working president Kadir Pirzada, the party reiterated that it always stayed with Muslims.

4) In a shocking incident in Tamil Nadu, cows’ teats were cut off by unruly elements as part of a protest against a school. Members of an anti-Hindu, anti-Bharat NGO, and a Dravidian outfit have been arrested for conspiracy in the issue.

5) A shocking case of sexual exploitation of multiple girls via love/grooming jihad has come to light from Sonbhadra, UP. The accused Zeeshan was arrested for abducting a minor Hindu girl and forcing her to ‘marry’ him, after the girl’s parents lodged a police complaint.

6) Third-year engineering student, Nishank Rathore from Bhopal, could be the latest victim of the blasphemy madness sparked by propaganda journalist Md. Zubair. He went missing from his hostel room and was found dead on railway tracks in Raisen district’s Obaidullaganj around 6 PM on Sunday.

7) The Tamil Nadu assembly’s Speaker has said that they installed today’s government and that the CM is well aware of that. He called Christians the TN foundation and assured them they could directly approach the CM to get things done.

8) On Wednesday, July 20, dozens of Hindu pilgrims gearing up for the Kanwar yatra staged a demonstration in Delhi. The demonstration was called soon after they discovered a piece of meat thrown at one of the Kanwars, desecrating the holy Ganga water and rendering it soiled.

9) A Hindu girl has taken her life in a government-aided Christian institution in Tamil Nadu. Even as the issue of a 17-year-old girl allegedly dying by suicide in a private boarding school rocks the state, another girl has hanged herself in a church-run school. While the school claims it is a suicide, parents allege foul play.

10) A BJP Yuva morcha worker in Karnataka’s coastal district of Dakshina Kannada has been murdered by unknown miscreants.

11) Another young Hindu man has lost his life to a Muslim man who views Hindu girls as nothing more than a piece of meat or maal-e-ghanimat. Dharam Singh Sahu and his brothers had confronted a Muslim man stalking his niece Kajal and interfering in her married life. The stalker Mohammed Azmal Nadaf was so incensed at this ‘defiance’ that he gathered a Muslim mob within minutes and they launched a vicious attack on Dharam and his family while chanting the Islamic war-cry “Naara-e-takbeer…Allah-o-Akbar” and saying “Hindus are rising up too much, let’s halal them.”

12) Danish Khan attacked a minor girl with a blade after stalking and harassing her for days. Reportedly, the class 12 student received 31 stitches after being slashed on the face and neck with the blade.

13) In the latest of its continuous bid to destroy Hindu traditions and customs, the Kerala state police force under the direct control of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan did not allow Hindu devotees to offer prayers for the departed yesterday at Shanghumugham beach, Thiruvananthapuram.

14) Students of a government school in Tamil Nadu protested against a teacher who threatened them to not wear the sacred thread and Vibhuti(sacred ash). As no action was taken against the teacher despite multiple complaints, students staged a protest in front of the school.

15) In a grooming case from Jharkhand, Mohammed Naeem Mian is accused of assuming a fake identity to marry a Hindu woman. He reportedly also raped the woman’s minor younger sister and filmed the act. He was threatening to make the video viral. Naeem Mian is a resident of Matrameta village, located under Thethaitangar Police Station.

16) Two Muslim youth have been booked for threatening to kill RSS swayamsevak Dushyant Gupta in Amanpur, Kasganj district, UP.

17) A 15-year-old girl returning with her mother from the famous Mateshwar Dham Shiv mandir, district Saharsa has been abducted by Md. Firoz, Md. Nizam and others.

Most hate crimes are driven by anti-Hindu bigotry encoded in certain religious teachings and political ideologies. While the anti-Hindu hate in Islamic countries is evident, there is another subtler form of anti-Hindu sentiment within institutions and the public sphere of ostensibly secular states (like India) that provides an enabling environment for Hinduphobia and hate crimes. This subtle, everyday discrimination can be missed unless one studies prevailing laws and patterns. The gradual ban on firecrackers during Diwali is a good example – it might seem pollution-related on the surface, but the double standards at play become clear when one looks at the larger picture of restrictions on Hindu festivals and the lack of sound reasoning behind the ban.

We request all readers to share other anti-Hindu hate crimes that we might have missed in this period in the comments below or by dropping an email to [email protected]. We also solicit support in maintaining the Hindu human rights tracker database.
