Hindus under attack: a weekly roundup of hate crimes, persecution, and discrimination against Hindus

Attacks on Hindus and Hindu Dharma, both in Bharat and overseas, are frequent and unrelenting. In many regions of the world, this persecution is like a genocide slowly unfolding before our eyes. For decades, the world has ignored the actual depth and breadth of these attacks, driven by disturbing anti-Hindu bigotry. From murders, forced conversions, land grabs, assault on festivals, desecration of temples and murtis, hate speech, and sexual violence to institutionalized & legal discrimination, Hindus are facing an increasing assault on their very existence along with an unprecedented Hindu hatred.

In this weekly summary for the period from 9 July to 15 July 2023, we hope to provide a snapshot of such crimes and hopefully awaken more people around the world to this human rights crisis:

Bharat

1) A Coaching centre owner and an AMU graduate turned Deoband student are among 3 held for illegally converting 7 Hindu men and women in Uttar Pradesh’s (UP) Ghaziabad. The accused have been identified as Rahil alias Rahul Agrawal and Mohd. Musir, both residents of Delhi’s Sangam Vihar and Abdullah Ahmed alias Saurabh Khurana of Palwal (Haryana).

2) A 32-year-old Islamist grocery store owner from Karnataka was detained on suspicion of murdering one of his workers. The incident occurred at Mulihithlu on the outskirts of Mangaluru in Karnataka. The perpetrator, Tausif Hussain, set the victim, Gajnana, on fire and attempted to pass it off as an electrocution.

3) Islamic conversion racket run by doctors and engineers was busted by the police in Ghaziabad.

Pastor Chris Hodges also bragged that the missionaries that his organisation is associated with have already converted more than 1 lakh Hindus in a single week.

13) In Banbhulpura, Haldwani, people from the Muslim community barged into the house of a Hindu family and beat up women and men. The accused did not even spare the pregnant woman, kicked her in the stomach, and tore her clothes. The police have named four including the main accused Imran and filed an FIR against 10-12 people in the section of insurrection, molestation, assault, and threats.

15) Mahila Aikya Vedi state president Nisha Soman said in a press release that the order regarding fare hikes during Hindu festivals issued by state-owned Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) is anti-Hindu and a challenge to Hindus. In the months of August, September, and October, there is an increase in fares for express buses. Hindu festivals such as Onam and Navratri are celebrated during this period.

18) In an alarming incident, cricket coach Mehboob Bukhari groomed and raped his minor Hindu girl student in Gujarat’s Rajkot.

19) In yet another shocking case that has been swept under the carpet by our country’s toxic, Adharmic mainstream media, a 12-year-old minor janjatiya girl was gang-raped by 3 Muslim construction workers in Khudel police station area of Indore district, Madhya Pradesh.

24) The Fatehpur police in Uttar Pradesh arrested a 23-year-old Muslim guy on charges of kidnapping, raping and converting a minor Hindu girl to Islam. The 16-year-old victim was lured to the brick kiln by a married individual and father of one child named Saif Ali.

25) LRO (Legal Right Observatory) alleged that the Nashik police are attempting to save Uddhav faction corporator Mushir Sayyed. The organization has sought Deputy CM Fadnavis’ intervention in the case where Sayyed’s gang allegedly stabbed three Hindu traders.

Other party leaders, including MLAs and MPs, were also injured in the lathi charge.

Bangladesh

Attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh are relentless and designed to cleanse the religious minority from the country gradually. According to a study by Prof. Abul Barakat of Dhaka University, no Hindus will be left in Bangladesh by 2050 due to systemic and institutionalized persecution. Temple desecration, land grabbing, mob attacks after false blasphemy charges, rape/forced conversion of women, and hate speech are tools used to intimidate and drive Hindus out.

1) Islamic radicals kidnapped two minor Hindu girls, who are cousin sisters, from the Comilla district. Muhammad Sojib Miyan, Muhammad Shakil and others kidnapped the girls from a road near their home at Telikona Sahapara under the Kotowali Model Police Station area of Coomilla.

World

1) Canada has become a hotbed of anti-Bharat and anti-Hindu activities as yet another Hindu temple was defaced by Khalistani terrorists. Ahead of a pro-Khalistan rally in Canada, the Bharat Mata Mandir in Brampton was defaced with anti-India posters.

2) Bharatiya student brutally was assaulted with a metal pole by ‘Khalistan Zindabad’ chanting men in Australia.

Most hate crimes are driven by anti-Hindu bigotry encoded in certain religious teachings and political ideologies. While the anti-Hindu hate in Islamic countries is evident, there is another subtler form of anti-Hindu sentiment within institutions and the public sphere of ostensibly secular states (like India) that provides an enabling environment for Hinduphobia and hate crimes. This subtle, everyday discrimination can be missed unless one studies prevailing laws and patterns. The gradual ban on firecrackers during Diwali is a good example – it might seem pollution-related on the surface. Still, the double standards at play become apparent when one looks at the larger picture of restrictions on Hindu festivals and the lack of sound reasoning behind the ban.

We request all readers to share other anti-Hindu hate crimes that we might have missed in this period in the comments below or by emailing [email protected]. We also solicit support in maintaining the Hindu human rights tracker database.
