Battle for UP: Another poster girl of Cong joins BJP

0

In yet another setback to the Congress in Uttar Pradesh, its poster girl for the ‘Ladki hoon, lad sakti hoon’ campaign, Vandana Singh, has joined the BJP.

Vandana said that she left Congress due to ‘negligible involvement of the high command’ in matters important to the upcoming polls.

“The party is giving opportunities to only those who have recently joined. I have worked for the Congress for six years. I was the vice president of the women’s wing. But we do not get a chance to talk to Priyanka Gandhi. We cannot speak for ourselves in the party,” said Vandana.

Another poster girls of Congress’s campaign, Priyanka Maurya, had earlier joined the BJP.

Priyanka Maurya had alleged that the Congress’s distribution of tickets ahead of the Assembly election was rigged.

“They (Congress) used my face, my name and my 10 lakh social media followers for the campaign. But when it came to the ticket for the upcoming election, it was given to someone else. This is injustice. It is all pre-decided,” Priyanka Maurya had stated.

She had also alleged that she did not get the ticket “because I am an OBC girl and could not bribe Priyanka Gandhi’s secretary Sandeep Singh.”

Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra had earlier announced in Lucknow that the party would give 40 per cent of tickets to the women candidates (which means 160 candidates) in the Uttar Pradesh polls.

Tamil Eelam will become reality in not too far future: Rudrakumaran

1

Tamil Eelam will become a reality in not too far future, said Rudrakumaran Visvanathan, the ‘Prime Minister’ of the Transnational Government of Tamil Eelam (TGTE) which aims to realise accountability of crimes against humanity, war crimes and genocide committed by Sri Lanka against Tamil minority, in an exclusive interview with IANS.

Here are some excerpts of the interview:

Q. The Chinese are having a major presence in Sri Lanka and it seems that the Sri Lankan government is under a debt trap by China. Your comments?

A. As you mentioned, Sri Lanka is under a major debt trap by China. In fact, in 2019, former Vice President of the United States Mike Pence gave an important speech regarding China’s debt trap, and he cited Sri Lanka as the case study.

China has the Hambantota Harbour on a 99-year lease. Since the lease agreement is sealed, we do not know the contents of the agreement. It is feared that China will use it for military purposes. There is a clause prohibiting Hambantota for military purposes, but in reality, if China decides to use it for military purposes, tiny Sri Lanka will not be able to resist. Also, China has established a strong presence through its financing of the ‘Port City’ in the capital itself and has control over the Eastern Terminal of the Colombo Port.

In essence, southern Sri Lanka is rapidly becoming a Chinese colony. China has also set its sights on the Tamil areas. In this regard, we the Tamils have taken a position that any Chinese presence in the Tamil areas should only be done with the consent of the Tamils. This is consistent with Tamil sovereignty and the Tamil right to self-determination. We are also concerned about the environmental impact of any Chinese investments.

Q. Velupillai Prabhakaran was killed on May 18, 2009 by the Sri Lankan armed forces. Has the Tamil nationalist movement lost its steam after this incident?

A. No. In fact, following the 2009 Mullivaikkal genocide, the movement for an independent and sovereign state of Tamil Eelam, with the motto “Never Again”, has evolved further among Eelam Tamils and Tamils across the globe. Moreover, the second, third, and fourth generation of the Eelam Tamil diaspora, with their tech-savvy political activism, has sharpened the Eelam Tamil nationalist movement.

By taking up the struggle through non-violent and political means we have entered a new and even stronger phase of the freedom movement while building on the foundation of the past.

Q. What do you expect from a country like India in the struggle for Tamil Eelam?

A. The geopolitical map of the Indian Ocean is being rapidly redrawn. Geostrategic, geopolitical, and geo-economic dynamics are dictating intra-regional relations in South Asia and have recently extended to the Indian Ocean. China, which is determined to replace the current world order to one based on its own rules, is expanding its strategic influence in the littoral states of the Indian Ocean. As a result, democratic virtues in these countries are in great peril.

Needless to say, the above constitutes a threat not only to peace in the Indian Ocean, but also the national interests of India. Sri Lanka, an island strategically located in the Indian Ocean, is giving a duplicitous perception that it is neutral between India and China. However, the facts and history have proven otherwise. Also, the fact remains that Sri Lanka’s relationship with China is that of a vassal state, that can be used as a springboard to harm Indian interests.

In the Freedom Charter promulgated by the TGTE in 2013, with the participation of more than 100,000 people, we have explicitly stated that we will maintain close relations with all democratic nations. In the freedom charter under the foreign policy, we also said that we are expressing solidarity with the people of India and Tamil Eelam and would like to have a special relationship with India. Our foreign policy is premised on “principled realism.”

Currently, the Sri Lankan government is engaged in structural genocide against Eelam Tamils, seeking to destroy them as a nation. India should take measures to ensure the viability of the Eelam Tamil Nation in the island of Sri Lanka both for larger reasons of principle and morality as also in its own national interests. In fact, India has a legal obligation to do so.

In the Indo-Sri Lankan Accord, India recognized the North-Eastern part of Sri Lanka as a historical habitation of Tamil people. Presently, the Sri Lankan government is changing the demography through colonization and land-grab under the context of archaeological excavation. Thus, India should first ensure that Sri Lanka stop this immediately.

Sri Lanka is in economic distress and India gave an unconditional USD 500 million dollars. We applaud India’s generosity. However, we think India missed an opportunity. India should have tied that aid to getting a pledge from the Sri Lankan government to not violate the Indo-Sri Lankan Accord, specifically the clause pertaining to the Tamil homeland.

Q. Is the goal of Tamil Eelam in near sight or is it a distant dream. What are the activities you are carrying out in this regard?

A. What happened in Mullivaikkal was an act of genocide. The Eelam Tamils with the help of international civil society are in the process of establishing that fact. In fact, the Tamil Nadu legislature has already passed a resolution to that effect and the Canadian parliament has also unanimously passed a resolution calling for the international investigation of genocide.

Once this fact is established, we are legally entitled to have an independent state, as remedial justice to ensure non-recurrence. In fact, in 1971 India helped to establish Bangladesh under the premise of remedial justice.

We are also campaigning to demand that the Tamil national political question should be resolved through a referendum. In this context, I would also like to point out that the Tamil Nadu legislature also passed a resolution for a referendum on the Tamil national question. This demand is gaining currency in international civil society too.

This is not just a political question; it is a fundamental question of human rights. We have no doubt that, not too far in the future, Tamil Eelam will become a reality – and indeed the TGTE is in the process of building an independent proto-state amidst the diaspora.

Q. What is the current status of the accountability process and the upcoming Human rights council session in March?

A. The current HRC mandate expires in September, thus we do not expect any dramatic changes in the March session. However, I must also tell you that the current international mechanisms, including HRC are controlled by the states and states act according to their own interests and not necessarily based on justice.

Thus, we have launched a campaign called ‘Victims Driven International Justice’ utilizing the forums in the countries where the diaspora live, based on the principle of universal jurisdiction. We are also working on creating exceptions to the Foreign Sovereign Immunity Act in many countries that would enable victims to sue the Sri Lankan state itself for international crimes.

The international civil society has already created a situation whereby not a single Sri Lankan political leader or military leader and their families can openly leave Sri Lanka and go to a foreign country for even a visit. They can only leave in the dark and with the fear of being picked up and prosecuted by the judicial mechanisms in many countries.

Q. What about the proposed new constitution by the present Sri Lankan government?

A. The Tamils never participated in the 1972 and 1978 Constitutions. Those were imposed on the Tamils. Similarly, if this initiative for a new constitution becomes a reality it will also be imposed on Tamils because the Sri Lankan state, its institutions, and its polity are in the clutches of religious fundamentalism similar to Myanmar and Iran and will never allow any kind of power-sharing with the Tamils or with the Muslims.

Racism is entrenched in Sri Lanka and permeates all institutions. Thus, our position is that Tamils can only live with physical security and dignity outside the existing current state structure of Sri Lanka.

Q. There are several rumours of LTTE regrouping and Tamil Nadu police have recently arrested a former LTTE intelligence operative, Satkunam alias Sabesan on charges of smuggling drugs from Pakistan to Sri Lanka and rerouting the money to Tamil Nadu. Your comments?

A. The LTTE silenced its guns in May 2009. All the countries’ intelligence agencies know that the LTTE is not engaged in any kind of military activity since 2009. If they don’t know this, these intelligence agencies should be revamped.

Arguendo, the allegations mentioned by you are true. It does not mean that the LTTE has regrouped. It is quite possible, one or two individuals might make the claim, but that is not tantamount to the resumption of military struggle. I represented an asylum seeker from Bangladesh who was a member of the BNP and the Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit in the US held that unless the leadership condoned the terrorist activity it cannot be attributed to the organization. There is no evidence of any violence or subversive activity to justify the ban on the LTTE, as a political organisation.

The LTTE bogeyman has been created by these governments to destroy the Tamil nationalist movement, which is today entirely non-violent and based on principles of peaceful resistance. It is very unfortunate that even civilized governments are misusing legal measures in their countries to serve the political purpose. These actions are not only violations of fundamental human rights, but they are also corrupting their own legal systems.

Q. It is reported that huge money of the LTTE is left unused in some bank accounts in India including a nationalized bank in Fort branch, Mumbai. Is this true?

A. I have no idea. I wish it is true and I can have access to that money!

Q. You are the PM of TGTE. There are reports that this is not a monolithic organization or rather a government like the Tibetan Government in Exile and that there are fissures. Please explain if there is any truth in this.

A. We do not claim that the TGTE is a government in exile. The TGTE is a transnational government, not a ‘transitional’ government. It is a new concept, it is based on democracy, transparency, and transnationalism. We held elections in 12 countries amidst the Tamil diaspora. It is based on the principle that the people are the nation even in the temporary absence of their own geographical territory. As one political science professor said that this is the Eelam Tamil movement’s contribution to political science.

Q. Do you feel that the present Indian government will support your cause as the Chinese are inching towards establishing their proxy government in Sri Lanka?

A. It is important to advocate that the security of India is dependent on the rights and security of Eelam Tamils. If India fails to wake up to this reality, there will be another TIBET in the south for India and in the Indian Ocean region.

Another important point is that Sri Lanka is no longer a democratic country and is currently under the control of a corrupt, authoritarian, militaristic reign of the Rajapakse family whose survival is ultimately determined by the Chinese support all the way from Colombo to the Security Council of United Nations.

This is the crucial difference between India and China over their reach with the power in Colombo and the only critical element is Tamil Eelam that can keep the Sinhala ruling elites and the Chinese under check. This is what we want India to acknowledge and review its national and geostrategic priorities.

Rudrakumaran currently lives in New York and is a US citizen and has represented LTTE in several mediatory talks with the Sri Lankan Government.

History sheeter hurls petrol bombs at TN BJP HQ, says he didn’t like the party’s stand on NEET issue

0
BJP

Petrol bombs were hurled at the BJP state head quarters in Chennai last night. Tamil Nadu police have arrested a person and released a statement saying he did it to condemn state president K.Annamalai’s remarks about NEET. However there are reports suggesting that he could have been paid to hurl the petrol bombs. Fortunately the office was closed as it was midnight and no one was injured.

Last night around 1.30 AM, two unidentified persons came in a two-wheeler and hurled petrol filled bottles on Kamalalayam, the state BJP HQ in Chennai. The HQ is guarded by police round the clock. Yet the miscreants managed to hurl the bombs and get away. But one of them has been identified from the CCTV feeds and arrested.

The person who hurled the petrol bombs has been identified as Vinoth(38) who had allegedly claimed that he did not like the stand BJP has taken in the NEET issue and angered by it he hurled the petrol bombs at BJP HQ. The statement released by police says that he is a history sheeter and more than 10 cases are pending against him.

He had earlier hurled bombs at a TASMAC shop in 2015, as a mark of protest to remove it. But later it was revealed that he was paid by a VCK functionary to do it to amplify the party chief Thirumavalavan’s protests against liquor shops. In 2017 he had hurled petrol bombs at Thenampet police station. That time he was allegedly paid by a gangster to do it. The gangster thought police won’t let them do rowdyism unless they were made to fear them. To achieve it he paid Vinoth to hurl petrol bombs at the Thenampet police station.

But police, in their statement, have claimed that he had a habit of throwing petrol bombs in a drunken state, in a show of discontent in matters pertaining to public welfare. So now questions are being raised as to why a 38 year old history sheeter would care about the NEET issue to go to the extent of hurling petrol bombs.

TNBJP president K.Annamalai who spoke to the media regarding the issue accused the police of erasing evidence and called the reason told by Vinoth a joke. Police had allegedly washed the floor and cleaned up before forensic officials could arrive. Annamalai has demanded an NIA inquiry into the incident and sought the TN government to hype the security given to the HQ. He has also accused the DMK government of tapping his phone.

Saudi Arabia conducts its first Yoga Festival amid plenty of fanfare

0
Saudi

On the 29th of January, Saudi Arabia conducted its maiden Yoga Festival at Jeddah that was attended by more than 1,000 people aged between 10 to 60 from all over the country. The response and fanfare have stunned not just the event’s organizers, the Saudi Yoga Committee but also Islamists spread across the world. While a Saudi native Sara Alamoudi led the children it was Murali Krishnan who directed the adults teaching them different yoga styles and the art of mindfulness.

Yoga classes were conducted on the lawns of Juman Park in the city. Participants from all over the middle-east got a chance to practice yoga, watch different performances, enjoy demonstrations by yoga studios and learn about the assistance they provided. The one-day event saw eight hours of classes delivered by top international yoga masters from around the globe.

Saudis relished the positive energy as they lounged in the shade where mats, pillows, and rugs were made available. Nouf AlMarwaai, the president of the Saudi Yoga Committee said that she was overwhelmed by the positive response.

Nouf who is a 2019 Padma Shri awardee added that people have started to understand that yoga is a therapy that can be used to maintain good health and helps relieve multiple illnesses.  She thanked the Saudi government for the ‘great support’ that was provided.

She plans to promote yoga among families and encourage it in her country. Since it takes less than 20 minutes, Nouf felt that like crores in Bharat, Saudis too will start their day with yoga. Citizens too responded positively and were seen encouraging the instructors while praising the attendees. Everyone said that they were looking forward to the same event, next year!

Local pediatrician Uday Qurashi said that he began practicing yoga during the lockdown and now he is hooked to it. He added that he was happy to watch yoga being practiced in Saudi Arabia and was delighted to be a part of establishing yoga in the Kingdom.

Saudi Arabia’s Olympic Committee and the Ministry of Sport have recognized yoga as a sports activity with health benefits and the ancient meditation method is fast gaining popularity in the country. Saudis concluded that apart from its obvious physical benefits, one of the best motivations for taking up yoga is that it helps control stress, which is known to have harmful effects on the body and mind.

Yoga was introduced into Saudi Arabia in November 2017 and just like in most western countries it gained popularity almost immediately. People started using yoga as a tool to reduce anxiety, particularly during the lockdown.

On June 21 last year (World Yoga Day), Saudi Arabia and Bharat had entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to establish formal yoga protocol (standards). It was also the first bilateral cooperation between the two countries on yoga.

PM Narendra Modi has worked tirelessly and now the world seems to recognize the benefits of yoga, something our ancestors understood thousands of centuries ago. Interestingly, opponents on social media were mostly disgruntled and Islamists from Bharat/ Pakistan, who blindly oppose anything that Modiji or the BJP/ RSS puts forth were disillusioned to say the least.

What is unique about Hindu Dharma? How is it different from Christianity and Islam?

0

Someone asked me this question in the course of an interview.

Here is what I replied:

Oh, there is so much uniqueness that it is hard to put it briefly.

Sanatana Dharma is the original, complete knowledge about what is true

I consider Vedic knowledge or Sanatana Dharma as the original, most ancient and complete knowledge about what is true regarding us and the universe. It is called today inadequately ‘Hinduism’. An ‘ism’ usually means a fixed doctrine that must be believed, and Hindu Dharma is the opposite of that. It allows the greatest freedom to connect with one’s essential Self, gives hints and methods, and does not go against one’s conscience.

In contrast, Christianity and Islam put their doctrine above one’s individual conscience. This has led to great suffering for humanity.

Later belief systems are limitations or distortions

The religious belief systems, which came later in time, are either limitations or distortions. Offshoots of Hindu dharma, like Buddhism, are limitations of the vast ocean of knowledge, because they demand from the follower to identify with only one of the sages or one set of texts.

The Abrahamic religions are distortions because they demand not only belief in a Supreme Intelligence (in English called God), but also blind belief in wild claims about this God, which have no foundation in truth and actually are harmful for a harmonious living together.

Questions are encouraged

One more important difference: Hindu Dharma encourages asking intelligent questions and using one’s intelligence to its fullest in the search for truth. Yet Christianity and Islam don’t want their followers to ask any questions or use their intelligence but want them to meekly accept what they are taught as ‘the one and only truth’.

This truth was allegedly revealed to only one human being and it divides humanity into those who follow this particular person and those who don’t. Those who don’t are dehumanized as unbelievers or heathen. This blind belief is of course not good for a healthy mindset, and the consequence of such fabricated division can be seen in history and also in the present.

In Hindu Dharma, it matters what is said and whether it makes sense and not so much who said it. Yet in Christianity and Islam it only matters who said it. What the religious founder said must not be scrutinized but believed.

Unfortunately, a lot of knowledge got lost

Hindu Dharma has incredible knowledge, even now, though a huge amount of it has been destroyed. Millions of texts were burned in Nalanda and Vikramshila by people who believed that only ONE book matters.

Millions of Hindus were killed, many Brahmins among them, who were seen as the biggest enemy, as they had the knowledge in their heads. The former Shankaracharya of Kanchipuram, Sri Chandrashekharendra Saraswati, said that at the start of Kali Yuga, Veda Vyasa divided the four Vedas into over thousand Shakas, to make it easier for the Brahmins in Kali Yuga to memorize them. Only eight are still preserved in full. Only eight of over one thousand…. What painful loss.

Vedas were ‘seen’ or revealed

The insights of the Rishis were not ordinary. They shared what they had “seen” in cosmic awareness or in other words, the Vedas were revealed to them. This knowledge is said to be there right at the start of the universe. In contrast, Western historians claim that humans were primitive thousands of years ago. The great sages who handed down the Vedas were definitely more advanced, and I wished Bharatiya historians had the courage to stand by their inherited knowledge.

Just one example that completely stuns me: how could the ancient Indians map the sky so absolutely detailed and correctly? How could they know the distance to the sun and the moon, or discern the planets of our solar system from stars? How could they know that the twin stars of Vashisht and Arundhati, hardly visible, move around each other? And even more astonishing, how could they develop astrology, know the qualities of the planets, their influence?

It truly needed an intimate connection with the cosmic awareness. They must have experienced that the whole cosmos with its planets and stars is alive, is a manifestation of Purusha himself, and they could reach out to it or rather see it within the vast space in themselves.

Ghulam Sheikh of Bihar murders married Hindu lady after she breaks off affair: Pune

0
Murder accused Ghulam Sheikh (Image courtesy: punemirror.com)

Ghulam Sheikh (30) brutally murdered a Hindu lady in Pune, Maharashtra, and is now absconding. Earlier, Sunita Suryawanshi (39) and her husband Raghunath rented out a portion of their home near the Pune international airport at Lohegaon to Sheikh, a migrant from Bihar. It is not known if Sheikh had shared his true identity with them while becoming a tenant.

Sheikh and Sunita entered into a relationship, and later he went back to his native place during the lockdown. According to the FIR lodged by Sunita’s family, the accused insisted that she visit his family in Bihar and a year ago she went to Sheikh’s village to meet his family. But after her family found out about the extra-marital affair and confronted her, Sunita repented and decided to break of all ties with Sheikh.

After Sheikh returned to Pune, they asked him to vacate the house and Sunita broke all ties with him. Sheikh then rented another place nearby in Sant Nagar area of Lohegaon, and started stalking the victim.

On Sunday afternoon, he returned to Sunita’s house when she was alone at home. He demanded sexual favors but the lady denied refused and asked him to leave. Sheikh started arguing and when the lady refused his advances, he assaulted her. The victim managed to escape and ran into a washroom and locked it from the inside.

Sheikh was not ready to leave and he broke open the door of the restroom. Once inside, he showed no mercy and overpowered the victim before strangulating her to death. He then locked the front door and fled.

When Raghunath and their two sons returned home, they saw that the door was locked. They thought that Sunita had gone out and they tried to contact her over the phone but there was no answer. When she did not return even at 11.30 in the night, they broke open the door and entered the house. The unfortunate family discovered her dead body in the washroom.

A complaint was registered at Vimantal police station and police reached the spot. Speaking about the incident, police inspector Bharat Jadhav said that his teams were trying to trace the murderer and that some were on their way to Sheikh’s native village. Sheikh has been charged with assault, causing damages, and murder. Jadhav assured that the search is on and added that the accused will be arrested soon.

Muslims often allege ‘Islamophobia’ claiming they are denied accommodation in cities, but such incidents and others like them (exhibit A, exhibit B) point at the need for introspection by the community. Moreover, this is yet another incident which should act as a red light to Hindu women contemplating such relations. The moral decay and de-Hinduization of Hindu families, cutting across all social strata, is another aspect of this tragic episode that needs immediate attention of Hindu religious and social organizations.

Catholic bishop and 5 priests from Kerala arrested for illegal sand mining in Tamil Nadu

Samuel Mar Irenios (69), the catholic bishop of Pathanamthitta, and five priests attached to the Syro-Malankara Catholic Church of Kerala’s Pathanamthitta were arrested for their role in illegal sand smuggling. Since the illegal mining and exploitation happened in Tirunelveli district of Tamil Nadu, CB- CID officers from Tamil Nadu are handling the case and the accused were arrested from Ambasamudhram. Church-appointed lawyers tried their best to get them bailed out on Wednesday but failed after the court denied the six of them any leniency.

Jose Chamakala (69), Shaji Thomas(58), George Samuel (56), Jose Kalaviyal (53), and Jijo James (37) are the other priests involved in the scandal. Earlier, the Tirunelveli district court remanded all of them to judicial custody but Irenios and Chamakkala feigned illness and got themselves admitted to the Government Medical College Hospital, Tirunelveli. The rest of the clerics are lodged in the Nanguneri jail.

In late 2019, it was estimated that 22.67 lakh cubic meters of river sand had accumulated in the eight major rivers of Kerala. Tamil Nadu also has been a victim of floods ever since 2015 and the church took this as an opportunity, albeit an immoral one.

Irenios owns 300 acres of agricultural land at Pottal village on the banks of the Thamirabarani river bordering the Vandal Odai check dam in the Tirunelveli district. In the past, coconuts and gooseberries were farmed in the bishop’s land. In late 2019, the Pathanamthitta church ‘leased’ it to one Manuel George from Kottayam for running a quarry business. Manuel obtained a license for processing and storing stone, gravel, crusher dust, and M-sand.

M-sand or manufactured sand is produced by crushing rocks and is environmentally friendly when compared to river sand. The issue with M-sand is that it consumes more cement when used in high-grade pumpable concrete and naturally, greedy contractors prefer river sand. Back in 2015, one cubic foot of river sand cost Rs 55 in Tamil Nadu but it was Rs 80 in Kerala and today it costs almost double and triples immediately after the rains/ floods.

The sand mafia conspired with corrupt local politicians and officials from the mining and geology department and started large-scale illicit mining of sand from the river, the reservoir, and the adjacent areas. It continued unchecked for almost a year before the Cheranmahadevi sub-collector inspected the premises in September 2020. Assessments estimated that 27,774 cubic meters of sand had been illegally mined and transported for commercial purposes but the actual quantity is said to be much more.

A penalty of Rs 9.57 crores was imposed on the bishop and the Veeranallur police sub-inspector was suspended for aiding the accused. The church has multiple infrastructure projects and it was selling illegally mined sand to private operators. Though the bishop and his cronies were summoned for interrogation, they claimed that George indulged in sand mining vast plots of adjacent government land and committed the malpractices without their knowledge.

Police had earlier arrested George and one Mohammed Samir last year. Samir is married to Sabitha, the deputy director of mines and minerals in Tamil Nadu. Astonishingly, even though it was clear that Samir had helped the sand mafia, Sabitha was merely transferred to the adjacent district of Thoothukudi. A fake journalist named John victor, Paulraj, and a couple of others were arrested for aiding and abetting the illegal sand smuggling.

Though the accused fooled the local villagers, environmentalists and natives knew exactly what was happening and started a campaign that took the sand mafia to the Madurai bench of the Madras High Court. Last year, the court ordered that the case be transferred from Kallidaikurichi police station to Tamil Nadu CB-CID for further investigations. The CB-CID gathered evidence and arrested the bishop and five priests after the investigators found that the illegal activities were carried out with the connivance of the owners of the land and based on the proof, the court remanded them.

Missionaries who have indulged in child abuse, sodomy of nuns, forced conversions, and financial irregularities are now involved in stripping the earth of its precious wealth that puts both the environment and citizens residing along riverbanks at risk. Having destroyed large tracts of land along the highly vulnerable high ranges of the Western Ghats, the missionaries had moved down to plains to exploit the river sand deposits. They knew very well that illicit sand mining has altered river beds, forced rivers to change course, eroded banks, and more importantly led to severe floods.

It has destroyed the natural habitat of aquatic animals, eliminated whole ecosystems, and affected groundwater recharge. Undeterred, they moved ahead with their evil plans. This illegal sand mining and smuggling still continue but the detention of the missionaries has come as a rude shock to the people of Tamil Nadu.

Incidentally, the Thamirabarani river is like Ganga and local Hindus consider it holy due to its perennial nature. This is exactly why it finds references in the Mahabharat. This could also be the reason why the conversion mafia that has no issues raping and plundering the earth as their colonial masters did, chose this river. It originates from above Papanasam in the Western Ghats, flows east before it meets the Bay of Bengal. Various dams and check dams make sure that water from this river irrigates huge tracts of agricultural land.

Latest heard, the church shamelessly tried to defend itself when it issued a statement that said that they were included in the investigations only because they are the landowners. They tried to pin the blame exclusively on George and added that they have initiated legal proceedings against him. If recent court orders are to be referenced, these pastors too may go scot-free in no time.

Bharat and Philippines set to forge special ties after BrahMos missile deal during Jaishankar’s visit

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar’s visit to the Philippines starting this weekend is set to cement special ties between New Delhi and Manila riding of their recent BarhMos missile deal, widely touted as a game-changer in the South China Sea. The two countries are now looking at working together in the fields of maritime security, intelligence-sharing, military training, procurement and logistics.

The Philippines’ Defence Secretary Delfin Lorenzana and BrahMos Aerospace Director General Atul Dinkar Rane had signed the contract worth PHP 18.9 billion in a virtual ceremony at the DND headquarters in Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City on January 28.

Calling it a landmark move, the western Pacific Ocean country said it realises the importance of the contract considering escalating regional tensions, especially China’s strategic expansion into the South China Sea.

“Equipping our Navy with this vital asset is imperative as the Philippines continues to protect the integrity of its territory and defend its national interests,” Lorenzana had said at the time of contract signing for the shore-based anti-ship missile system acquisition project for the Philippine Navy.

“As the world’s fastest supersonic cruise missiles, the Brahmos Missiles will provide deterrence against any attempt to undermine our sovereignty and sovereign rights, especially in the West Philippine Sea,” the defence chief had added.

As reported by IndiaNarrative.com last December, Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has been busy giving final touches to the modernization of his country’s armed forces with acquisition of missile corvettes, Black Hawk combat helicopters, Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPVs) and Bharat’s BrahMos supersonic cruise missile, before his term expires in June.

The Philippine government’s Department of Budget and Management (DBM) had on December 27 released two Special Allotment Release Orders (SAROs) to cover the initial funding requirements of the ‘Shore-Based Anti-Ship Missile System Acquisition Project’ of the Philippine Navy under the Revised Armed Forces of the Philippines Modernization Programme.

Manila has shown interest in acquiring BrahMos – the potent offensive missile weapon system developed through the joint venture between Bharat (DRDO) and Russia (NPOM) – ever since the indigenously built stealth warship INS Sahyadri had docked at Manila South Harbour along with an anti-submarine corvette, INS Kiltan in October 2019.

Initially, Philippines will be acquiring three batteries – consisting of three mobile autonomous launchers along with two or three missile tubes each and the tracking systems – besides training for operators and maintainers as well as the necessary Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) package.

The deliveries of the BrahMos for the Philippine Navy’s Shore-Based Anti-Ship Missile System Acquisition Project are expected to start later this year.

Lorenzana had called it an “absolute honour” for the Philippines to be the first foreign nation to acquire Bharat’s supersonic cruise missile systems.

Jaishankar, who will be reaching Manila straight from Australia after attending the two-day Quad foreign ministers’ meeting beginning January 10, is also expected to discuss key developments in overall bilateral relations with his counterpart Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin.

Strengthening cooperation between Bharat the Philippines on regional and global issues in the context of ASEAN and India Dialogue; and mutual support to address the Covid-19 pandemic and economic revitalization in the fields of agriculture, energy, and Information and Communications Technology (ICT) could also be the top meeting agenda.

Locsin had last year said that Jaishankar’s wisdom on Indo-Pacific dynamics has guided him in many crucial decisions, including Indian minister’s “sharp insight” on the the Indo-Pacific region.

We support Bharat’s initiative for an ASEAN-India Joint Statement on the ASEAN Outlook and the Indo-Pacific Oceans Initiative.

“We commend India’s active participation in the East Asia Summit, the ASEAN Regional Forum, and SOMTC Plus India. We aspire for a region of peace, growth, stability and freedom especially from non-state transnational threats to which we are especially vulnerable,” the Foreign Affairs Secretary had commented during the ASEAN post-ministerial conference session with Bharat last August.

“We look especially to India as a teacher in this particularly perilous field of fire which describes our respective countries’ situations in this regard,” he added.

KFC, Hyundai face backlash on social media

Bharatiya users are fuming on social media over some controversial posts targeting Kashmir by reputed multinationals. Hyundai’s Pakistan dealership came under heavy fire for sharing a post on its official social media handles, extending support to “Kashmir Solidarity Day”. Soon after, #BoycottHyundai started trending on Twitter, with Bharatiyas condemning the car giant’s controversial stand. Now, KFC has come under scrutiny over the same reasons, IB Times reported.

Bharatiyas are calling for a boycott of KFC, the popular fast-food chain with branches across the globe. The reason for the social media boycott, which is trending in Bharat under the hashtag #BoycottKFC, is a post shared by the eatery’s Pakistan handle last year.

“We stand together this Kashmir Solidarity Day, to realise their right to freedom,” KFC PAK wrote. Making things worse, a picture of snowy mountains with overlaying text: Their cravings for freedom are heartfelt, was shared. The word Kashmir is marked with a barbed wire, signifying Kashmir is not free, the report said.

As the screenshot of last year’s tweet by KFC Pakistan on Kashmir went viral, many Bharatiyas took to Twitter to express their dismay. Hundreds and thousands of users have called out the propaganda against Bharat on the sensitive issue of Kashmir. Netizens are already pledging never to eat again at a KFC joint, IB Times reported.

The social media post, which triggered this controversy, remains active on all of KFC Pakistan’s social media channels. KFC India, however, has issued an apology for the controversial post from its Pak handles, the report said.

Korean car maker Hyundai Motor India found itself on a sticky road with its statement that many Bharatiyas consider as insufficient and skirting over the issue of whether Kashmir is an integral part of Bharat. On Twitter the handles Boycott Hyundai” and ‘Boycott Kia’ started trending.

Pakistan declared a holiday on February 5 to express solidarity with terrorists and Kashmiri separatists operating from Indian soil. On February 5, Hyundai Pakistan as well as a dealer of Kia Motors in Pakistan shared posts on social media extending support to the Pakistan-sponsored violence in Kashmir under the garb of ‘solidarity’ which is being celebrated as ‘Kashmir Solidarity Day’ every year on 5th February every year, the report said.
