Hindus under attack: a weekly roundup of hate crimes, persecution, and discrimination against Hindus

Attacks on Hindus and Hindu Dharma, both in Bharat and overseas, are frequent and unrelenting. In many regions of the world, this persecution is like a genocide slowly unfolding before our eyes. For decades, the world has ignored the actual depth and breadth of these attacks, driven by disturbing anti-Hindu bigotry. From murders, forced conversions, land grabs, assault on festivals, desecration of temples and murtis, hate speech, and sexual violence to institutionalised & legal discrimination, Hindus are facing an increasing assault on their very existence along with an unprecedented Hindu hatred.

In this weekly summary for the period from 29 June to 05 July 2025, we hope to provide a snapshot of such crimes and hopefully awaken more people around the world to this human rights crisis:

Bharat

1) Cases of Christian conversions have rapidly grown across several states, including Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan. This is evident from the spike in number of Christian families living in various districts of these states over the last few years. According to reports, the religious composition of the population in several districts of Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh has drastically changed in the last couple of decades, particularly in tribal areas.

2) In a deeply disturbing incident that has shocked the Janjatiya community of Gersa village in the Sitapur region of Surguja, 24-year-old Mohammad Chand, a known habitual offender from Bimda village (Bagicha police station, Jashpur district), has been arrested for the cold-blooded murder of Raidu Nagvanshi, during a violent theft operation.

3) In a deeply disturbing case that has sent shockwaves across the nation, a 70-year-old Hindu widow from Maharashtra was brutally raped in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir by Zubair Ahmad Bhat, a local Muslim from Ganeshbal. Bhat mercilessly assaulted the elderly woman inside her hotel room. Reports say the woman was gagged with a blanket and subjected to a violent sexual attack. This incident is not just a heinous crime; it is symbolic of a larger, festering Islamist mindset that sees Hindu women, even the elderly, as targets to humiliate and dominate.

4) Within the college premises at Maharani College, Jaipur, three Islamic shrines were discovered. The revelation of the shrines led to an inflict of controversy. Allegations are being made, calling an attempt to encroach on the institution’s land.

5) A chilling case of religious deception and exploitation has emerged from Patna, Bihar, where a 27-year-old Hindu woman from the Khajekala locality has accused an Islamist youth, Muhammad Siraj Ahmed, of deceit, coercion, and sexual abuse under the guise of love and marriage. The accused, a native of Gopalganj, allegedly posed as Sonu to befriend and entrap the woman. He is currently a postgraduate student at Nalanda Medical College and Hospital (NMCH) and resides in the college hostel.

6) In yet another case exposing systematic and covert religious conversion operations in Uttar Pradesh, a disturbing incident has surfaced from the Raebareli district, where alleged Christian missionaries, posing as Hindus, were found conducting conversion activities disguised as prayer meetings.

7) A significant security threat was recently exposed in Uttar Pradesh, where a SC minor girl from Prayagraj district was targeted for religious conversion and recruitment into Islamic terrorism. The case has sparked intense debate over the vulnerability of marginalized groups and the growing reach of radical networks across state lines.

8) A fresh controversy has erupted in Rajasthan’s Kota district after a video went viral showing Hindu students being made to recite the Kalma, an Islamic declaration of faith, during a school assembly at Bakhshi Springdales School. The video has sparked outrage across the country. Though claimed to be from a past annual function, the incident exposes a growing and dangerous pattern of religious indoctrination under the deceptive veil of inclusivity.

Bangladesh

Attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh are relentless and designed to cleanse the religious minority from the country gradually. According to a study by Prof. Abul Barakat of Dhaka University, no Hindus will be left in Bangladesh by 2050 due to systemic and institutionalized persecution. Temple desecration, land grabbing, mob attacks after false blasphemy charges, rape/forced conversion of women, and hate speech are tools used to intimidate and drive Hindus out.

1) Islamists stripped a Hindu woman, assaulted and allegedly gang-raped in Muradnagar Upazila of the Coomilla district of Bangladesh. The Islamists also recorded the whole incident and uploaded the video on social media. However, as the video goes viral worldwide, the police came into action and arrested five accused including main accused Fazar Ali.

Most hate crimes are driven by anti-Hindu bigotry encoded in certain religious teachings and political ideologies. While the anti-Hindu hate in Islamic countries is evident, there is another subtler form of anti-Hindu sentiment within institutions and the public sphere of ostensibly secular states (like India) that provides an enabling environment for Hinduphobia and hate crimes. This subtle, everyday discrimination can be missed unless one studies prevailing laws and patterns. The gradual ban on firecrackers during Diwali is a good example – it might seem pollution-related on the surface. Still, the double standards at play become apparent when one looks at the larger picture of restrictions on Hindu festivals and the lack of sound reasoning behind the ban.
