Hindu students made to recite Islamic Kalma in school, video goes viral: Kota, RJ

A fresh controversy has erupted in Rajasthan’s Kota district after a video went viral showing Hindu students being made to recite the Kalma, an Islamic declaration of faith, during a school assembly at Bakhshi Springdales School. The video has sparked outrage across the country, especially among Hindu organizations, who rightfully view it as a blatant case of Islamic imposition in a secular educational space. Though claimed to be from a past annual function, the incident exposes a growing and dangerous pattern of religious indoctrination targeting Hindu students, all under the deceptive veil of inclusivity.

The school management attempted to justify the act by claiming it follows a Sarva Dharma Prarthana model, where prayers from all religions are supposedly included. However, this excuse collapses under scrutiny, because what was forced upon the students wasn’t a generic moral teaching, but the Kalma, the Islamic declaration of faith that signifies conversion and absolute submission to Allah. Members of Hindu organizations argue, and rightly so, that making Hindu children recite the Kalma, without explanation or consent, is not just deeply offensive but outright coercive. Unlike universal moral values, the Kalma is a binding theological statement of allegiance to Islam. Forcing it upon non-Muslim students is an attack on their religious identity, violates their constitutional rights, and amounts to psychological manipulation of innocent minds who lack the maturity to question or resist such imposition.

Several Hindu organizations have condemned the school’s actions and warned of large-scale protests unless accountability is ensured. They rightly point out that in a secular education system, religious neutrality must be maintained, not by blindly including all religious content, but by avoiding the imposition of any one faith’s core beliefs. The incident also raises questions about the failure of school managements to consult parents and communities before introducing such practices, especially in schools with a majority Hindu student base. Religious harmony cannot be built by compromising one community’s values and identity to appease another.

The district education department has initiated an investigation and is expected to forward its report to the CBSE board. But let’s be clear—mere bureaucratic action or token inquiries will not suffice. This disturbing incident must serve as a loud wake-up call for policymakers and education boards to draw non-negotiable boundaries around religious content in school spaces. True inclusivity does not mean appeasing every religious group by forcefully inserting their rituals into classrooms; it means respecting the religious and cultural identity of every student.

In yet another shocking incident, a Kanpur school compelled non-Muslim students to recite the Kalma under the guise of ‘Sarva Dharma Samman.’ This is not harmony; this is forced religious indoctrination targeting Hindu children in their own homeland. What is happening in Bharat?

Forcing Hindu children to recite Islamic affirmations like the Kalma is not diversity; it’s coercion disguised as harmony. The Bharatiya education system must stop using the cloak of pseudo-liberalism to justify such blatant acts of religious imposition. No Hindu child should ever be put in a position where they are made to compromise their dharma or chant something that contradicts their faith. What this country needs is not Congress-style tokenism, but a firm commitment to protecting the religious dignity and constitutional rights of the Hindu majority.
