Hindus Under Attack: A Weekly Roundup of Hate Crimes, Persecution, and Discrimination Against Hindus

Attacks on Hindus and Hindu Dharma, both in Bharat and overseas, are frequent and unrelenting. In many regions of the world, this persecution is like a genocide slowly unfolding before our eyes. For decades, the world has ignored the actual depth and breadth of these attacks, driven by disturbing anti-Hindu bigotry. From murders, forced conversions, land grabs, assault on festivals, desecration of temples and murtis, hate speech, and sexual violence to institutionalised & legal discrimination, Hindus are facing an increasing assault on their very existence along with an unprecedented Hindu hatred.

In this weekly summary for the period from 04 October to 10 October 2026, we hope to provide a snapshot of such crimes and hopefully awaken more people around the world to this human rights crisis:

Bharat

1) Leftist rag The Quint has rolled out the red carpet for terror accused Sharjeel Imam. The Quint published a lengthy interview with Sharjeel Imam conducted by Jamaat-e-Islami Hind owned MediaOne channel’s journalist Athique Haneef. Haneef does not just give Sharjeel Imam a platform but the interview sanitises everything and allows him to portray himself as a persecuted “political prisoner”, an ignored figure of Shaheen Bagh and a victim of an allegedly “Islamophobic” state.

2) A 27-year-old gym coach, identified as Imthias Sheriff from Otteri, was arrested by the Secretariat Colony police after allegedly sharing photographs of himself with a college student on social media following the end of their relationship.

3) A viral video showing Islamist individuals consuming non-vegetarian food near a Shiva temple at Kudalasangama, the revered aikya sthala associated with Jagajyoti Basavanna, has triggered a political controversy in Karnataka.  As per the reports, the video, which has circulated widely on social media, has drawn sharp criticism from BJP leaders, who have questioned whether adequate measures are being taken to preserve the sanctity, cleanliness, and religious character of one of Karnataka’s most important spiritual centres.

4) Police have filed an FIR against 25 jihadi individuals following protests and disruptions during a two-day seminar on Vande Mataram at Kerala Central University in Kasaragod, where the governor was among the speakers. Kerala Police have suo motu registered an FIR against 25 identified students over the disruption of a Vande Mataram seminar at Kerala Central University in Kasaragod.

5) A controversy has erupted in Moodushedde village of Mangaluru over the allotment of two acres of land for a Muslim burial ground (kabristan) near the Jarandaya Daivasthana, a sacred Nagabana, and nearby Jain basadis. Residents and Hindu organizations contend that the proposed burial ground’s location raises serious concerns about the protection and dignity of the area’s traditional Hindu and Jain religious heritage. The Jarandaya Daivasthana and Nagabana hold deep cultural and spiritual significance for devotees, while nearby Jain basadis add to the area’s religious heritage.

Bangladesh

Attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh are relentless and designed to cleanse the religious minority from the country gradually. According to a study by Prof. Abul Barakat of Dhaka University, no Hindus will be left in Bangladesh by 2050 due to systemic and institutionalized persecution. Temple desecration, land grabbing, mob attacks after false blasphemy charges, rape/forced conversion of women, and hate speech are tools used to intimidate and drive Hindus out.

1) Subrata Babu, owner of Subrata Dahi Mishti Bhandar in Ward No. 15 under Fulhari Union of Jhenaidah District and his nearly 100-year-old mother were assaulted following a dispute over unpaid sweets and curd. Subrata states that several people had previously taken curd from his shop by force without paying. When the same individuals had returned on 5 October and attempted to take good without payment, he refused. Angered by his refusal, the people first attacked Subrata and then assaulted his elderly mother.

Most hate crimes are driven by anti-Hindu bigotry encoded in certain religious teachings and political ideologies. While the anti-Hindu hate in Islamic countries is evident, there is another subtler form of anti-Hindu sentiment within institutions and the public sphere of ostensibly secular states (like India) that provides an enabling environment for Hinduphobia and hate crimes. This subtle, everyday discrimination can be missed unless one studies prevailing laws and patterns. The gradual ban on firecrackers during Diwali is a good example – it might seem pollution-related on the surface. Still, the double standards at play become apparent when one looks at the larger picture of restrictions on Hindu festivals and the lack of sound reasoning behind the ban.

We request all readers to share other anti-Hindu hate crimes that we might have missed in this period in the comments below or by emailing [email protected]. We also solicit support in maintaining the Hindu human rights tracker database.
