Zubair Ahmad Bhat denied bail for heinous rape of 70-year-old Hindu widow in Pahalgam hotel: J&K

In a deeply disturbing case that has sent shockwaves across the nation, a 70-year-old Hindu widow from Maharashtra was brutally raped in the so-called heaven on earth, Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir. As per the Organiser, the accused, Zubair Ahmad Bhat, a local Muslim from Ganeshbal, mercilessly assaulted the elderly woman inside her hotel room. Reports say the woman, who had come seeking peace and spiritual solace in Kashmir, was gagged with a blanket and subjected to a violent sexual attack. This incident is not just a heinous crime; it is symbolic of a larger, festering Islamist mindset that sees Hindu women, even the elderly, as targets to humiliate and dominate.

Disturbingly, the alleged crime took place in April, just days before the Pahalgam massacre of April 22, during a period when tourists and pilgrims were arriving in large numbers to the Kashmir Valley.

The court’s response was commendable. Sessions Judge Tahir Khurshid Raina refused to grant bail, describing the crime as “depravity of the highest degree” and indicative of a “sick mentality.” But what is most alarming is that such crimes are becoming frequent in regions where radical Islamist attitudes are being normalized and where Hindu presence—even in the form of a harmless widow—is increasingly seen as an opportunity for exploitation or revenge. The message from the court was clear: “Don’t test the hospitality of Kashmir,” hinting that this land, once sacred and spiritual, is now being defiled by an anti-civilizational ideology that preys on the weak.

The case revolves around the horrific sexual assault of a 70-year-old Hindu widow, allegedly carried out by a man reportedly younger than her own son. The victim, who had come to Pahalgam with her family as a tourist, was brutally attacked in her hotel room while she was alone. According to reports, the accused forcefully entered the room, gagged the elderly woman, raped her, caused serious injuries, and then escaped through the window.

Rejecting the accused’s bail plea, the Principal Sessions Judge emphasized that the common legal principle of “bail, not jail” cannot be applied blindly when serious factors are at play. The court observed that none of the arguments made by the accused’s counsel were sufficient to convince the court that continued custody was unjustified. The judge firmly stated that the investigation is still in progress and has not even reached the charge sheet stage, making bail premature and unwarranted.

Let us not remain blind to the pattern. Whether it is love jihad, targeted harassment, or sexual violence, there is a disturbing undercurrent of Islamist aggression against Hindus, especially women. That even a 70-year-old widow is not spared shows how far this toxic mindset is willing to go. This was not an act of lust. It was a deliberate, hate-driven humiliation of a defenseless Hindu woman, carried out in a place that was once a symbol of Bharat’s civilizational grace and spiritual unity.

Why is it that when the victim is Hindu and the perpetrator a Muslim, secular voices fall silent? Where are the feminist collectives, the human rights NGOs, and the so-called liberal media channels? Why this selective outrage? The Hindu society must realize that this is not just a crime; it is a calculated act of psychological and cultural warfare. If we fail to speak now, we are complicit in the erasure of our safety, our dignity, and our right to exist with respect in our own land.

Despite the relentless mainstream media propaganda that tries to portray Jammu and Kashmir as peaceful and inclusive, Hindus across Bharat are increasingly aware of the ground reality. A detailed article by Hindu Post has exposed the disturbing mindset prevalent in places like Pahalgam, where many locals do not align with the idea of Bharat, and some even harbor sympathies for separatist or terrorist ideologies. While not everyone is radicalized, it is undeniable that a significant section carries a mentality shaped by decades of anti-Bharat sentiment and Islamist extremism. This dangerous undercurrent poses a serious threat to the safety and dignity of Hindu pilgrims, tourists, and residents alike.

Kashmir is not just a piece of land; it is Shakti Bhoomi, and every assault on a Hindu woman there is an assault on our collective spirit. Bharat will not remain silent.
