Hindus under attack: a weekly roundup of hate crimes, persecution, and discrimination against Hindus

Attacks on Hindus and Hindu Dharma, both in Bharat and overseas, are frequent and unrelenting. In many regions of the world, this persecution is like a genocide slowly unfolding before our eyes. For decades, the world has ignored the actual depth and breadth of these attacks, driven by disturbing anti-Hindu bigotry. From murders, forced conversions, land grabs, assault on festivals, desecration of temples and murtis, hate speech, and sexual violence to institutionalized & legal discrimination, Hindus are facing an increasing assault on their very existence along with an unprecedented Hindu hatred.

In this weekly summary for the period from 4 June to 10 June 2023, we hope to provide a snapshot of such crimes and hopefully awaken more people around the world to this human rights crisis:

Bharat

1) In a recent and shocking love jihad case, a Muslim man named Arju Mansoori was arrested for threatening Jaya. Not only that, but he did the same to another Hindu girl after being released from prison on parole. Notably, he is the brother of Armaan Khan alias Rocky who had trapped and subsequently murdered Mamata, a married woman, in a relationship.

2) Maharashtra’s Nasik police Thursday, June 1, arrested a youth named Raees Sayyed on charges of harassment, threat and abduction. He is accused of stalking, threatening and forcing an 18-year-old named Nikita into marriage, abducting and taking her to a dargah when she did not accede to his demands.

3) On June 2, a headless body of an unidentified woman was found in a suitcase near Uttan Beach in the Mira-Bhayandar area of Maharashtra. Reportedly, the dead body was slashed into two halves and the head is missing. The dead body appeared to be of a 25 to 35-year-old woman. There was a tattoo of Trishul and Damru along with the Aum (ॐ) symbol on the hand of the deceased woman.

4) Abid posed as a Hindu to marry a woman, then forced her to sleep with his father as part of Nikah Halala in UP’s Bareilly.

5) In a development that has sparked outrage among the local community and Hindu organizations, a murti of Bhagwan Vinayaka was reportedly removed from the residence of the Pudukottai District Collector after the newly appointed IAS officer Mercy Ramya took charge. The decision to remove the idol was allegedly made by the District Collector, who follows the Christian faith, leading to accusations of religious insensitivity.

6) Key litigant to withdraw from Varanasi’s Gyanvapi case citing harassment by anti-Hindu forces, strained finances and lack of support from society.

7) On June 4, Ghaziabad Police revealed shocking details in the matter where a minor Jain boy was lured by Islamists to follow practices of Islam including offering Namaz five times a day. A Maulvi has also been arrested in this matter.

8) A journalism student residing in Uttar Pradesh’s (UP) Varanasi identified as Amarnath Pandey alias Nikhil Pandit was attacked by a Muslim mob who accused him of being a Bajrang Dal member. The student said the police were refusing to file an FIR (First Information Report) in the matter.

9) Christian Kuki terrorists armed with sophisticated weapons attacked a Hindu Meitei village and injured 15 in Manipur.

10) Islamists bullied IPL cricketer Yash Dayal to delete his post on Sakshi murder and grooming jihad.

11) In yet another instance of Communists exhibiting their pathological hatred towards Hindu Dharma and Indian culture, CPI-M Rajya Sabha MP from Kerala John Brittas insulted the historic Sengol and called Hindu sanyasis as ‘powerless clowns’. Speaking at the India Today Conclave South, the Christian MP said that he was “ashamed of what happened during the Parliament inauguration”.

12) Police in Kanpur have booked a man under Uttar Pradesh’s anti-conversion law for marrying a Hindu woman, exploiting her sexually for two years and then forcing her to change her religion. Abdul Wahid, who allegedly posed as ‘Mohan Lal’, has also been booked under other sections of the IPC, including rape.

13) Muslim mob with weapons stormed the roads of Anand’s Umreth and held the entire area hostage. The incident took place two days after the molestation of 2 Hindu minors by Muslim youths in the area.

14) It has come to light that Urdu is compulsory for students, books filled with Islamic text and teachers were converted to Islam post-appointment in MP’s (Madhya Pradesh) Damoh school where non-Muslim girls were forced to wear hijab.

15) The case of double love jihad has come to the fore in Aligarh. A Muslim boy Javed first trapped an elder Hindu girl and then her minor sister in Love Jihad. He was planning to flee with the minor girl and also pressurizing her to convert to Islam. Fortunately, the family came to know about this, and the girl’s mother registered a complaint with the Police and the girl recovered.

16) A 14-year-old Hindu girl was raped, bludgeoned with a hammer and then hung from a fan in the Takrohi area of Lucknow’s Indira Nagar, UP on Thursday. Following a preliminary investigation, the police managed to nab the accused Shahid.

17) Hindu organizations held a massive protest in Maharashtra’s Kolhapur on Wednesday (June 7) demanding strict action against those who posted a viral social media (SM) status praising Islamic tyrant Aurangzeb.

18) Dravidian Stockists led by the DMK IT wing and Periyarist goons spewed hatred on Bharatiya cricketer and Kolkata Knight Riders all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer and the Brahmin community for playing cricket with Veda Paathasala kids.

19) Faridabad student revealed shocking details of the Islamic conversion mafia targeting non-Muslims through online gaming.

20) Punjabi Hindu woman, who filed a case against her husband and in-laws after eight years of their marriage, in Noida narrated her tragic story of forced Nikah after false promises, conversion, and assault among others.

21) Uttar Pradesh police arrested a man identified as Shil Kumar from a village in Shravasti under charges of rape and murder. The victim is a 11-year-old Hindu girl, who was raped and murdered by the accused. The victim’s family claimed that the accused is a Muslim man identified as Muzaffar Ali son of Farooq Ali and that he is a Rohingya Muslim.

22) A 65-year-old man identified as Ram Lal Sharma was admitted to the hospital after one Imran Rahat Hussain attacked him in Rajasthan’s Jaipur for no genuine reason. The victim sustained severe head injuries. The family and the villagers said the people from the Mosque sent him, as after the attack the accused repeated, “Masjid ne bheja hai..sir kaat dunga..”

Bangladesh

Attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh are relentless and designed to cleanse the religious minority from the country gradually. According to a study by Prof. Abul Barakat of Dhaka University, no Hindus will be left in Bangladesh by 2050 due to systemic and institutionalized persecution. Temple desecration, land grabbing, mob attacks after false blasphemy charges, rape/forced conversion of women, and hate speech are tools used to intimidate and drive Hindus out.

1) On June 5 night, unknown miscreants attacked a Shiva temple in Magura district. As per available information, on June 6 morning locals found that the Murti of Trinath Shiva temple was broken. Locals suspect the role of radical Islamic elements.

Most hate crimes are driven by anti-Hindu bigotry encoded in certain religious teachings and political ideologies. While the anti-Hindu hate in Islamic countries is evident, there is another subtler form of anti-Hindu sentiment within institutions and the public sphere of ostensibly secular states (like India) that provides an enabling environment for Hinduphobia and hate crimes. This subtle, everyday discrimination can be missed unless one studies prevailing laws and patterns. The gradual ban on firecrackers during Diwali is a good example – it might seem pollution-related on the surface. Still, the double standards at play become apparent when one looks at the larger picture of restrictions on Hindu festivals and the lack of sound reasoning behind the ban.

We request all readers to share other anti-Hindu hate crimes that we might have missed in this period in the comments below or by dropping an email to [email protected]. We also solicit support in maintaining the Hindu human rights tracker database.
