Whitewashing of Hinduphobic ‘comedian’ Munawar Faruqui through “Lock UPP”

Controversial ‘comedian’ Munawar Faruqui stood as the winner of Kangana Ranaut-hosted reality show ‘Lock Upp’ on Saturday, May 7 night. Faruqui had accumulated 18 lakh votes, including Kangana Ranaut, to surface as the show’s champion, with Payal Rohatgi as the runner-up and “Kacha-badam fame” TikToker Anjali Arora as the 2nd runner-up.

“This is very symbolic trophy. And this is the winner who deserves the trophy of Lock Upp Season 1 – Munawar Faruqui” said Ranaut while handing out the trophy to Faruqui. Producer Ekta Kapoor shared a video clip of Faruqui’s winning moment on her Instagram profile.

Her post was accompanied by the description, “Mirror mirror on d wall who is d’ fair’est of them all !!! Meet Munawar Faruqui who got 18 lac votes and Kangana Ranaut’s vote too!!! THE very first winner OF Lock Upp. JAI MATA DI.”

This brings us to a vital question: Does the Winner of Ekta Kapoor’s show has the minimum reverence for the Hindu Goddess whose victory Kapoor hailed through her post?

Anti-Hindu stance of Munawar Faruqi

Faruqi, who had claimed during the anti-CAA protests that his documents were destroyed in the 2002 Gujarat riots, enjoys a reputation of being an avid Hindu hater multiple times. He has mocked the killing of Hindus by Islamist extremists by making a joke about the burning alive of 58 Hindu Kar Sevaks in one of his stand-up acts.

During a similar stand-up comedy routine, he had also used unspeakable expletives for Mata Sita and slandered the Ramayana by making lucid comments at the vanavas of Shri Ram. Through his jokes, he had also tried to smear the character of Shri Ram.

An Ace-Victim Cardplayer

His abusing Hindu deities and ridiculing the brutal killing of the Kar Sevaks outraged Hindu groups and regular Hindus who were informed and aware. This led to his shows being cancelled in many parts of the country. In the face of a career crisis, the alleged comedian tried to portray himself as a victim of communal hate. He announced his exit from the comedy scene and blamed it on those who opposed the rabid abuse of their Gods, thus implying that Hindutvawadis had forced him out of his profession.

He also made a third attempt to cry victim during Mamata Banerjee’s Mumbai visit. Introducing him to the West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Bollywood entertainer Swara Bhaskar alleged that performers like herself and Faruqi were not getting work because of Right-Wing extremists.

However, shortly after such an announcement, news of his shows being held in various venues surfaced.

Promoting Love Jihad, raising sympathy For Munawar Faruqi through Lock Upp

From the beginning of the reality show, Faruqi was given a hapless innocent guy next door who was being unduly targeted. The show also promoted Love Jihad by introducing an angle of romance at the show’s beginning involving the Muslim “comedian” and a Hindu Tik Tok artist, Anjali Arora. When the affair started, neither the audience nor the Hindu girl was informed that Faruki was already married and had an estranged wife and a son. We have reported on multiple instances of Muslim men luring Hindu women into a relationship without telling them about their marriages or children. These deceived Hindu women then face brutal torture at the hands of their Muslim men and are also found murdered. But Ekta Kapoor’s reality show tried to glamorize and romanticize this practice.

There were attempts to raise sympathy for Faruqi throughout the show. The audience learns that his mother is a victim of domestic abuse and has killed herself by consuming poison. Subsequently, it was also revealed that his relatives sexually abused Faruqui as a child.

While the revelation of his accounts aimed to garner the sympathy of the naïve Hindus that form the majority in this country, it also exposes the infestation of Islamist households. Neither are the women safe in such surroundings nor are the children.

His mother was pushed to the brink by the people of his community, and he was molested by his own. But as an adult, Munawar Faruki did not take any retaliatory steps against those people; at least, nothing that we know. On the other hand, he exploited the generosity of the Hindus, insulted Hindu sentiments, and denigrated their gods. He proved himself to be not a victim but a bi-product of the abusive and violent society that supported him.

Such artists and their likes are a threat to the ignorant Hindu society who remain untrained in reading through the viciousness of the anti-Hindu brigade. Further, Kangana Ranaut voting in his favour, and being supportive of his antics throughout the season also proves that the Hindu can trust nobody in the entertainment business as the bearer of the saffron flag.
