Hindus under attack: a weekly roundup of hate crimes, persecution, and discrimination against Hindus

Attacks on Hindus and Hindu Dharma, both in Bharat and overseas, are frequent and unrelenting. In many regions of the world, this persecution is like a genocide slowly unfolding before our eyes. For decades, the world has ignored the actual depth and breadth of these attacks, driven by disturbing anti-Hindu bigotry. From murders, forced conversions, land grabs, assault on festivals, desecration of temples and murtis, hate speech, and sexual violence to institutionalized & legal discrimination, Hindus are facing an increasing assault on their very existence along with an unprecedented Hindu hatred.

In this weekly summary for the period from 10 to 16 September 2023, we hope to provide a snapshot of such crimes and hopefully awaken more people around the world to this human rights crisis:

Bharat

1) As the High Court stated distributing Bibles isn’t for conversion, the Dalit plaintiff asked whether they can give Bibles in mosques.

2) Activist Alok Chaudhary was stabbed to death reportedly for resisting grooming jihad gang in Haryana’s Faridabad.

3) In Jharkhand’s Lohardaga district, a heinous case of attack by a stalker came to light. A man identified as Mir Shahrukh killed a 10-year-old boy of Sushma Mehli just because she refused his proposal of relationship and marriage.

4) In yet another case of fake identity trap, a Hindu woman registered a complaint against one Daud Ibrahim, who posed as Rahul Gupta to marry her. The truth came out, two years after their marriage and the birth of their daughter. Based on the victim’s complaint, the police have registered an FIR (First Information Report) in this case.

5) In Assam, married man Aziz Ahmed trapped MBA student Mehak Sharma in Love Jihad and brutally murdered her when she ended the relationship.

6) A man stabbed his wife to death over suspicion that she was being unfaithful, a Delhi Police official said on Monday, adding that the accused has been arrested. A police team at the crime spot found that the victim, identified as Nisha, had been stabbed multiple times by her husband Sajid (36), at their home.

7) “Not bothered about DMK govt falling, will eradicate Sanathana Dharma”, says Udhayanidhi Stalin as he promises to genocide/ethnocide Hindus.

8) Murugan, a native of Shenkottai in Tenkasi, has been running the business of making murtis using eco-friendly materials for decades. Murugan and his father Thirumalai, specialize in making murtis of Ganesha ranging from 2 feet to 12 feet and during Ganesh Chaturthi season. As the festival is fast approaching, Murugan has been receiving hundreds of orders from across the state and even from neighbouring Kerala. Recently a video of him narrating his ordeal on how he is being targeted by the Tamil Nadu police on false charges for his political affiliation went viral on social media.

9) In Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, a minor Hindu girl committed suicide by consuming poison after her classmate Shavez Rizvi uploaded her video on social media. According to reports, the accused recorded the minor girl’s video on August 15 and posted it on Instagram. Upset with this, the girl consumed poison on September 2. She succumbed during treatment on September 3.

10) The principal of a school in Goa, the Keshav Smruti Higher Secondary School, was suspended for making Hindu students visit a mosque for an “educational workshop.” The suspension followed protests by Hindu organisations, who objected to the school’s decision to take its students to a mosque and involve them in Islamic customs. Girls were made to wear hijabs, and boys were made to do other Islamic practices like washing hands and feet. Twenty-two students attended this workshop, including 2 Hindu and 2 Christian girls.

11) Islamists barged into a Higher Secondary School in Howrah district and beat up a Hindu teacher for punishing a student. After receiving the complaint, the Police arrested two people. The arrested have been identified as Sheikh Makbul and Sheikh Bilal. The Police said that few others are absconding.

12) The Ambedkar Nagar police in Uttar Pradesh arrested four members of a family on charges of forceful conversion and coercion. Dalit woman Indravati filed a complaint against her biological brother Mohammad Hussain aka Shyamlal, who had converted to Islam a few years ago. He and his family were pressuring Indravati to embrace Islam as well. When Indravati refused to accede to their demand, they threatened to kill her.

13) Kamal Kishore was stabbed to death and Shivam Sharma was wounded by Shahrukh and others over a petty dispute in Delhi.

14) According to reports, a Hindu youth, who was bursting crackers to celebrate India’s win, was brutally assaulted by a Muslim mob in the Saiyedpura market area in Surat, Gujarat. The frenzied crowd not only thrashed the victim with wooden bats and stumps but also barged into his house and vandalised it. The incident reportedly took place at around 11 p.m. on September 11.

15) After Udhaynidhi Stalin’s genocidal rant, DMK pushed Hindu hatred in government college by asking students to speak on ‘Opposing Sanatana’.

16) Around 100 female students from a residential school in the Khatima area of Uttarakhand’s Udham Singh Nagar district, have alleged that three tailors, who had come to take measurements for their school dresses, touched them inappropriately. Two of the tailors, identified as Mohammad Umar and Mohammad Shakil, were arrested on 12 September.

17) A complaint was filed against St. Anthony School in UP’s Hapur for forcing students to remove rakhis and asking them to rub off tilak from their foreheads.

18) A septuagenarian former VHP State President was arrested in Tamil Nadu under the draconian SC-ST Atrocities Act and other sections of IPC allegedly for making derogatory remarks about Ambedkar and Tamil saint-poet Thiruvalluvar. He was arrested in the wee hours from house house in Chennai which sparked criticism and questioning of why he was arrested while Udayanidhi Stalin who called for “Eradicating Sanatana Dharma” was roaming freely.

19) Jihadi forces are engaged in all sorts of means to trap the Hindu girls and women and destroy the Hindu society. The latest case has been reported in Rampur district, from where a Hindu minor girl was kidnapped by a Muslim boy, who trapped her under the guise of playing an online game ‘Free Fire’. After intensive surveillance, the police successfully recovered the girl, while the Muslim youth Qadir, who was involved in the crime, was sent to jail.

20) DMK’s Hindu hatred has gone global with 2G fame A Raja’s latest hate speech in which he said that “Hindu Dharma is a menace for the entire world”. In a video clip shared by Tamil Nadu BJP President K Annamalai, A Raja could be heard making the remarks in a video conference attended by anti-Hindus and Ambedkarites like Dilip Mandal and Kshama Sawant.

21) DY Chandrachud refused to urgently list a plea seeking legal action against Udhaynidhi Stalin for his hate speech during the ‘Sanatana Dharma Eradication Conference’.

22) On September 15, on the last day of the auspicious month of Shravan, a Bhagwan Shiv Yatra procession came under attack in the Thasra area in the Kheda district in Gujarat. It is being said that stones were pelted by a Muslim mob from a Madarsa when the Bhagwan Shiva Yatra procession was passing through a ‘Muslim Area’.

Bangladesh

Attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh are relentless and designed to cleanse the religious minority from the country gradually. According to a study by Prof. Abul Barakat of Dhaka University, no Hindus will be left in Bangladesh by 2050 due to systemic and institutionalized persecution. Temple desecration, land grabbing, mob attacks after false blasphemy charges, rape/forced conversion of women, and hate speech are tools used to intimidate and drive Hindus out.

1) Bangladesh Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal made a strange remark ahead of the Durga Puja. He said, “Do not increase the number of Durga Pujas”. He made this comment after the special meeting held at the Home Ministry regarding the law and order situation during the days of the Durga Puja.

Most hate crimes are driven by anti-Hindu bigotry encoded in certain religious teachings and political ideologies. While the anti-Hindu hate in Islamic countries is evident, there is another subtler form of anti-Hindu sentiment within institutions and the public sphere of ostensibly secular states (like India) that provides an enabling environment for Hinduphobia and hate crimes. This subtle, everyday discrimination can be missed unless one studies prevailing laws and patterns. The gradual ban on firecrackers during Diwali is a good example – it might seem pollution-related on the surface. Still, the double standards at play become apparent when one looks at the larger picture of restrictions on Hindu festivals and the lack of sound reasoning behind the ban.

We request all readers to share other anti-Hindu hate crimes that we might have missed in this period in the comments below or by emailing [email protected]. We also solicit support in maintaining the Hindu human rights tracker database.
