YSRCP goons vandalize TDP office and TDP leader’s residence

YSRCP workers have vandalized TDP’s Central Office in Mangalagiri & TDP national spokesman K Pattabhi Ram’s residence in Vijayawada for allegedly abusing Andhra Pradesh CM Jagan Mohan Reddy during a presser.

The Andhra Pradesh DGP’s office issued a statement: “We will take strict action against attackers and also on those making provocative speeches. Additional forces have been deployed across the state. We request citizens to co-operate in maintaining peace and to not get provoked.”

Jagan Reddy usually gets favorable coverage in national press and presents himself as a serious, sober leader. People have already forgotten that his Andhra police arrested and physically tortured Member of Parliament Raghu Rama Krishna Raju, a vocal critic of Reddy, in custody. Raju was examined by Army doctors after SC intervention, and they confirmed his injuries. SC admitted the ‘possibility’ that Raju was ill-treated while in custody, but issued no rebuke to the AP government!

Jagan Reddy comes from a fanatic evangelical Christian family and his administration is accused of flouting norms to illegally benefit crypto-Chirstian converts. Over a hundred Hindu temples have been desecrated or vandalized during his 2+ years term thus far. Yet, neither the centre, nor courts have taken suo motu cognizance or demanded answers from Jagan’s administration

This continues a trend wherein regional parties like TMC, Shiv Sena, SP, CPM’s Kerala unit, DMK etc. who swear loyalty to one supreme leader or family resort to vandalism and hooliganism at the drop of a hat when that leader is criticized or challenged.

Among national parties, even Congress exhibits such fascist tendencies whenever the Nehru-Gandhi dynasty is criticized. The recent mobbing of Times Now office for an innocuous remark by Navika Kumar on Rahul Gandhi, and the hounding of Arnab Goswami after MLAs like Nitin Raut launched an all-out attack against him for questioning Sonia Gandhi’s silence over the Palghar lynching, being two examples.

In fact, Nitin Raut did not even spare his MVA alliance partner and motormouth Shiv Sainik Sanjay Raut. He issued a warning to Sanjay Raut for exposing Indira Gandhi’s links with gangster Karim Lala, taunting the Shiv Sainik, long accustomed to taking potshots at the Modi Government, that “we aren’t like BJP, we won’t tolerate it lying down..we know how to hit back hard.” Immediately afterwards, Sanjay Raut issued a meek apology and retracted his statement against Indira Gandhi.

Actually, Nitin Raut is dead right. In the ugly, no-holds-barred world of Indian electoral democracy, BJP can definitely claim to be the ‘party with a difference’. But there is a fine line between being law-abiding and allowing others to bully you. BJP is now veering towards the latter. Its inability to punish the killers of its leaders and workers, or at least boldly and loudly warn the perpetrators is coming across as meekness or what Savarkar called sadgun vikriti – perversion of virtue. The net result is that right-thinking citizens are rapidly getting disillusioned with our democracy and system of governance.
