Andhra Pradesh: Missionary tactics used to convert unsuspecting Hindus, janjati families

In recent times, there has been a surge in discussions surrounding the activities of Christian missionaries to convert vulnerable Hindus, especially janjati families for religious conversions. One particular incident has gained attention, shedding light on the methods employed and the subsequent impact on the affected families.

A Hindu family’s decision to convert to Christianity due to their initial struggle with childlessness took a distressing turn. Upon the birth of their child, the church allegedly approached them with an unconventional request – to auction the child and contribute the proceeds to the church. The family, facing financial constraints, found themselves in a predicament, compelled to raise funds through this unusual means.

Outraged by the situation, the family sought assistance from a Hindu organization. Unable to bear the burden of the auction amount demanded by the church, they eventually underwent Ghar Wapsi to the Hindu fold.

This incident has fueled social media attention to the coercive tactics employed by Christian missionaries. The accompanying video captures the confrontation between the affected Hindu family and the individuals associated with the church. It reveals the emotional distress faced by the family and their eventual escape from what they perceived as exploitation.

Critics argue that the authorities have not taken adequate action against the perpetrators. The lack of police intervention raises concerns about the protection of religious freedom and the enforcement of laws against coercion in matters of faith. Additionally, some claim that the government does seem to support such activities by providing salaries to pastors involved in conversion efforts.

While instances of religious conversions may be complex, media outlets need to investigate and report on such matters objectively. Responsible reporting can help uncover the truth, contribute to public awareness, and encourage constructive dialogue on the sensitive issue of religious conversions.

Coercion, abuse of poverty, and exploitation of health issues or family strife are some of the most popular methods of conversion by missionaries. Some of the other tactics include convincing the Hindus that prasadam is the same whether it is from a temple or a church – in videos shared by Swami Radha Manohar Das, who does ample work in this area, he indicates that missionaries use laddoo prasadam to convince Hindus that all gods are offered the same type.

Another method is by wearing Hindu symbols and living and proselytising in their localities openly. Swami Radha Manohar Das educates unsuspecting janjatis about the modus operandi of these Christian missionaries through his videos and the work that he does on the ground.
