A young Hindu girl in Sindh named Sabhagi Bhil was abducted, forcibly converted and married to Mashooq Chang and his friends against her will.
After being held hostage for several days, Sabhagi successfully escaped and returned to her parents’ home. Two-three days after her return, her abductors came back to the village and attacked Sabhagi’s house, injuring her father and uncle and attempted to kidnap her back.
But showing solidarity and bravery, the people of the village came together to protect Sabhagi and her family. With their help, the kidnappers were taught a lesson and Sabhagi’s safety was ensured. The bravery of the villagers was crucial in driving away the attackers and rescuing Sabhagi’s family. It was only with the help of the villagers that Sabhagi and her family members were able to survive.
After receiving reports of the incident, authorities have launched an investigation. However, there are many concerns about the effectiveness and fairness of the search process. Sabhagi Bhil reached the Pakistan Darawar office in Mirpurkhas and narrated her story and requested Pakistani Hindu activist Fakir Shiva Kachhi to help in the case.
Sabhagi told Fakir Shiva Kachhi that she was kept in a room and Mashooq Chang’s sister appeared in court on her behalf wearing a burqa and her statement was recorded and that she was forced to marry and convert. After being in their captivity for a few days, she stated that she managed to escape and returned home. She said, “I want to live with my parents and I should be saved from kidnapping.”
Abduction and forcible conversion of Hindu girls is extremely common in Sindh region of Pakistan. Despite raising their voices against this crime, the Islamist country pays no need to the issue and continues to apparently aid and abet the reduction in minority Hindu community numbers in the country.
This story of Sabhagi is a miracle and a source of inspiration to all the girls in the region who have or could be wrongfully kidnapped and converted forcibly.
