Hindus under attack: a weekly roundup of hate crimes, persecution, and discrimination against Hindus

Attacks on Hindus and Hindu Dharma, both in Bharat and overseas, are frequent and unrelenting. In many regions of the world, this persecution is like a genocide slowly unfolding before our eyes. For decades, the true depth and breadth of these attacks, driven by disturbing anti-Hindu bigotry, have been ignored by the world. From murders, forced conversions, land grabs, assault on festivals, desecration of temples and murtis, hate speech, and sexual violence to institutionalized & legal discrimination, Hindus are facing an increasing assault on their very existence along with an unprecedented Hindu hatred.

In this weekly summary for the period from 29 May to 4 June 2022, we hope to provide a snapshot of such crimes and hopefully awaken more people around the world to this human rights crisis:

Bharat

1) Controversial Pastor Bajinder Singh absconded after multiple complaints were filed by the SC-ST Forum and Odisha Hindu organizations. They wanted the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) to register an FIR against the Balangir Sub-collector for aiding a massive conversion event organized by Singh targeting innocent tribals of indigenous faith.

2) Local Hindus have been attacked by ‘outside’ Muslims in Jammu’s Sanasar. As per reports, the incident took place on Sunday, May 29.

3) Tension gripped the Arasikere taluk in Karnataka’s Hassan district on Tuesday after the vandalization of murtis in a temple by miscreants. The incident took place at the exhibition center of Malekallu Tirupathi Hill. This 300-year-old sacred place is known as Chikka (mini) Tirupathi. The temple is located 2-km away from the Arasikere town atop a hill and is revered by the people in the region.

4) Terrorists fired upon and shot dead a Hindu school teacher at Gopalpora in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district, police said on Tuesday. The teacher was identified as Rajni Bala (36), wife of Raj Kumar of Samba district in Jammu.

5) BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma is receiving death threats with a bounty on her head for merely stating what is written in Islamic scriptures about Prophet Mohammed. The cyberattacks started after so-called fact-checker Zubair Mohammed shared a clipped video of Nupur speaking about it in a TV debate.

6) In the case of grooming, 18-year-old Hindu girl Meenu was trapped by Irfan. The case has been reported from Chhattisgarh’s Basna.

7) In a shocking incident that should be dominating news headlines across the country, Hindu women performing Vat Savitri Puja in Jashpur Nagar, Chattisgarh on Monday were left aghast when a Muslim man threw a polythene bag filled with urine at them.

8) The manager of a regional rural bank (Ellaquai Dehati Bank) was shot dead by terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Thursday. Police sources said the terrorists shot and critically injured the manager, identified as Vijay Kumar of Rajasthan.

9) Reports state that Islam, son of Abdul Khaliq who hails from Gossaigaon town in Assam’s Kokrajhar district, mostly used the alias of ‘Raju’ or ‘Rahul Sarkar’ to befriend women and lure them into romantic relationships. After entrapping them under the pretext of love, the accused married multiple women in different parts of West Bengal.

10) Never failing the hate-filled Dravidian ideology, Tamil Nadu Health Minister has said that “North Indians” are spreading Covid-19 in the state. A Covid cluster is starting to emerge from two universities in Chennai and the minister has blamed students from other states studying in these institutions. in other news due to the incessant anti-North and anti-Hindi propaganda, a street vendor from a Northern state was assaulted by the public on the suspicion that he was kidnapping a small girl.

11) Ratan Soni, a swayamsevak and Hindu activist was brutally murdered with swords and iron rods on Tuesday night in Chittorgarh, Rajasthan. Police have arrested Waseem and Mushtaq for the murder. The victim was attacked when he was returning from a program in Manglik Dham.

12) More than 100 Hindu families have fled Kashmir as panic spread after the killing of a Hindu school teacher in India’s only Muslim-majority region, a community leader said on Wednesday. Militants on Tuesday shot dead Rajni Bala, 36, outside a government school in Kulgam that lies south of Kashmir’s main city of Srinagar – the latest in a spate of targeted killings of Hindus and Muslims. Avtar Krishan Bhat, president of a Hindu Kashmiri Pandit colony in northern Kashmir’s Baramulla, said that around half of the 300 families living in the area had fled since Tuesday.

13) Hyderabad police have booked a case against a little-known city-based political party AIMIM (Inquilab) which announced a bounty of Rs 1 crore on BJP national spokesperson Nupur Sharma’s head for her alleged derogatory comments on Prophet Mohammad. AIMIM (Inquilab) party president Qavi Abbasi had announced a reward of Rs 1 crore for anyone who makes disrespectful and derogatory comments on Prophet Mohammed. “Earlier I kept a bounty on Wasim Razvi and now on Nupur Sharma,” said Abbasi.

14) The Jammu and Kashmir Police booked a man on Tuesday for hurting the religious sentiments of Hindus in the Ramban district. Police sources said that a man identified as Basharat Wani was booked for hurting the religious sentiments of Hindus.

Bangladesh

Attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh are relentless and designed to gradually cleanse the religious minority from the country. As per a study by Prof. Abul Barakat of Dhaka University, there will be no Hindus left in Bangladesh by 2050 due to systemic and institutionalized persecution. Temple desecration, land grabbing, mob attacks after false blasphemy charges, rape/forced conversion of women, and hate speech are some of the tools used to intimidate and drive Hindus out.

1) The atrocities on the Hindus of Bangladesh are on a constant rise. The latest victim of Bangladesh’s anti-minority bigotry is a Hindu minor named Dhruba Chandra, a resident of Fatullah in Narayanganj. The 15-year-old was a student of class 10. He was mercilessly hacked to death by his Muslim classmates.

2) 20 Dalit Hindu homes were burned by Islamists (Tweet archived)

3) Shiplab Dey was murdered on May 30 (Tweet archived)

4) Physical and sexual abuse of two Hindu women by land grabbers Mohammad Alamgir & Tohidul Islam (Tweet archived)

Most hate crimes are driven by anti-Hindu bigotry encoded in certain religious teachings and political ideologies. While the anti-Hindu hate in Islamic countries is obvious, there is another subtler form of anti-Hindu sentiment within institutions and the public sphere of ostensibly secular states (like India) that provides an enabling environment for Hinduphobia and hate crimes. This subtle, everyday discrimination can be missed unless one studies prevailing laws and patterns. The gradual ban on firecrackers during Diwali is a good example – it might seem pollution-related on the surface, but the double standards at play become clear when one looks at the larger picture of restrictions on Hindu festivals, and the lack of sound reasoning behind the ban.

We request all readers to share other anti-Hindu hate crimes that we might have missed in this period in the comments below or by dropping an email to [email protected]. We also solicit support in the maintenance of the Hindu human rights tracker database started by us.

  1. Yes Because Abrahamic Religions where Religion is not by birth alone can increase their numbers. There should be World wide movement to reclaim all Temples and Churches to their original Religions as part of restoring PEACE IN MIND TRUTH AND FACTUAL POSITON MUST BE SYNCHRONIZED WHERE EVER IT IS POSSIBLE. Conversion which is not based solely on volition of people involved is an anathema to be shunned. We are all part of GOD AS HE IS REFLECTED IN EVERY THING THAT IS SEEN AND HEARD
