Attacks on Hindus and Hindu Dharma, both in Bharat and overseas, are frequent and unrelenting. In many regions of the world, this persecution is like a genocide slowly unfolding before our eyes. For decades, the world has ignored the actual depth and breadth of these attacks, driven by disturbing anti-Hindu bigotry. From murders, forced conversions, land grabs, assault on festivals, desecration of temples and murtis, hate speech, and sexual violence to institutionalised & legal discrimination, Hindus are facing an increasing assault on their very existence along with an unprecedented Hindu hatred.
In this weekly summary for the period from 28 December 2025 to 03 January 2026, we hope to provide a snapshot of such crimes and hopefully awaken more people around the world to this human rights crisis:
Bharat
1) A controversy has erupted in the Nilgiris district after allegations were made against a Christian preacher for illegally conducting prayer meetings and issuing threats to demolish temples in a residential locality. According to local residents, the incident occurred in Kandal, Kasturibai Colony, an area predominantly inhabited by Scheduled Caste Hindus. The residents alleged that a Christian preacher identified as Dinakaran, who is said to be from a different locality, has been conducting Christian prayer meetings illegally in the area and engaging in religious conversion activities.
2) The Andhra Pradesh government has announced a probe into an alleged racket promoting circumcision among non-Muslims, following a letter written by former Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) director M. Nageswara Rao. Rao has alleged that circumcision procedures were being carried out in hospitals across Andhra Pradesh with the criminal intention of promoting a communal agenda.
3) A Jangipur trial court found 13 Muslims guilty of killing 72-year-old Hargobindo Das and his 40-year-old son Chandan. The murder took place on 12 April 2025, in the Dhulia town of Murshidabad district. A mob pulled the two from their home and mercilessly hacked them to death in Jafrabad of Samserganj. The accused were identified as Dildar Nadab, Asmaul Nadab alias Kalu Nadab, Enjamul Hoque, Jiayul Hoque, Feqarul Sheikh, Ajfarul Sheikh alias Bilai, Monirul Sheikh, Ekbal Sheikh, Nurul Sheikh, Saba Karim, Hazrat Sheikh, Hazrat Ali, Akbar Ali alias Ekbar Sheikh and Yousuf Sheikh alias Sheikh Eusub.
4) In Kolhapur a banner of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was allegedly desecrated by two individuals, identified as Mohd Imam and Zakir. According to reports, the duo tore the banner and discarded it, sparking widespread outrage across the region.
5) Tamil film reviewer Kalilur Rahman has sparked controversy after launching a sharp religious attack on Sanatana Dharma while reviewing the recently released Telugu film Akhanda 2: Thaandavam, branding his commentary as a “Sanatana Sanghi Roast.”
6) A junior resident doctor at King George’s Medical University (KGMU), Lucknow, is at the centre of a high-profile case involving allegations of rape on the pretext of marriage, forced religious conversion and illegal abortion, which has now escalated into a major law-and-order and political issue in Uttar Pradesh. The accused, identified as Dr Rameezuddin alias Rameezuddin Nayak, remains absconding, with the probe intensifying after Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath personally intervened and directed police to speed up the investigation and ensure justice for the complainant junior doctor.
7) Tensions flared in Hubballi’s Neekar Nagar–Shivanagar area on Jan 1, Thursday, after allegations surfaced that a structure sanctioned by the municipal corporation as a residential house was allegedly converted into a mosque without legal approval. As per media reports, the incident, reported from a predominantly Hindu residential locality, led to a large-scale protest by local residents and Hindu organizations, who demanded immediate demolition of the illegal mosque structure.
Bangladesh
Attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh are relentless and designed to cleanse the religious minority from the country gradually. According to a study by Prof. Abul Barakat of Dhaka University, no Hindus will be left in Bangladesh by 2050 due to systemic and institutionalized persecution. Temple desecration, land grabbing, mob attacks after false blasphemy charges, rape/forced conversion of women, and hate speech are tools used to intimidate and drive Hindus out.
1) Dipu Chandra Das, a 25-year-old garment factory worker from Bhaluka in Mymensingh, Bangladesh, was lynched to death by a mob on unverified blasphemy allegations. The mob brutally beat him, tied his lifeless body to a tree, and set it ablaze, leaving his charred remains on public display. The horrific incident took place amid nationwide unrest following the death of political activist Sharif Osman Hadi.
World
1) A day after Bharat expressed concern over the demolition of a Bhagwan Vishnu statue by the Thai Military on the Thailand-Cambodia border, the Thai authorities have issued a clarification on the act, stating the demolished structure was not a “registered religious site”.
2) Hindu Soldier was threatened with deportation for Tilak during US Army training before justice prevailed.
Most hate crimes are driven by anti-Hindu bigotry encoded in certain religious teachings and political ideologies. While the anti-Hindu hate in Islamic countries is evident, there is another subtler form of anti-Hindu sentiment within institutions and the public sphere of ostensibly secular states (like India) that provides an enabling environment for Hinduphobia and hate crimes. This subtle, everyday discrimination can be missed unless one studies prevailing laws and patterns. The gradual ban on firecrackers during Diwali is a good example – it might seem pollution-related on the surface. Still, the double standards at play become apparent when one looks at the larger picture of restrictions on Hindu festivals and the lack of sound reasoning behind the ban.
We request all readers to share other anti-Hindu hate crimes that we might have missed in this period in the comments below or by emailing [email protected]. We also solicit support in maintaining the Hindu human rights tracker database.
