Sadruddin Bepari allegedly kidnaps Hindu girl Radhika; victim’s mother files complaint, girl later found with accused claiming consent

In the border village of Santibastawad, Belagavi taluk, a distressing incident has unfolded involving the disappearance of a young Hindu woman, Radhika Mucchandi, a 19-year-old nursing student. On February 19, Radhika went missing, prompting her mother, Deepa Mucchandi, to file a kidnapping complaint with the Belagavi Rural Police. As per TV9 Kannada, the complaint accused Sadruddin Bepari, a local Islamist youth who also disappeared on the same day, of abducting her daughter.

The incident has heightened communal tensions in Santibastawad, with reports of attacks on Bepari’s residence. The Bedar community, to which Radhika belongs, has expressed deep anguish, with members alleging that Islamists are insulting their Kannada identity. One tearful Bedar woman lamented the perceived insults to their community by local Muslims.

After 22 days, Radhika and Sadruddin were located in Mumbai and brought back to Belagavi for questioning. During the inquiry, Radhika stated that she had willingly married Sadruddin and expressed her desire to remain with him. She revealed that they had been in a relationship for two years but faced familial opposition, particularly from her mother, leading them to elope.

This incident echoes other tragic cases where Hindu women have faced violence in interfaith contexts. For instance, in April 2024, Neha Hiremath, a 23-year-old Hindu woman and daughter of a Congress councillor, was brutally stabbed to death on her college campus in Hubballi by Fayaz Khondunaik, an Islamist classmate whose advances she had rejected. The murder sparked significant outrage and discussions about the safety of Hindu women in such situations.

These incidents highlight the complex and often perilous dynamics surrounding interfaith relationships in the region, raising concerns about the influence and intentions behind such associations. This case in Karnataka is not an isolated incident but part of a disturbing pattern where Hindu girls are allegedly targeted, manipulated, and coerced into relationships under the guise of Love Jihad. Organizations like Bajrang Dal and Sri Ram Sena have been actively working to prevent such conversions and protect vulnerable Hindu women. Despite the mother’s distress and community outrage, this case reflects a clear example of Islamic manipulation, where the girl appears brainwashed and refuses to return to her family, choosing instead to remain with the accused, Sadruddin Bepari.

Tragically, many similar cases have had horrific outcomes. For instance, the Shraddha Walkar case in Delhi, where Aftab Poonawala brutally murdered his live-in partner and chopped her body into 35 pieces, storing them in a refrigerator. Another chilling case is the Rabiya Saifi incident, where a young Hindu woman working in Delhi was stabbed multiple times and dismembered by her Islamic partner. Neha Hiremath’s recent murder in Hubballi, by Fayaz Khondunaik, also serves as a reminder of the deadly consequences faced by Hindu women in such situations.

A disturbing pattern of crimes against Hindu women has emerged under the Congress-led government in Karnataka, which appears to be turning a blind eye to these heinous acts. Despite repeated incidents of manipulation, coercion, and brutal violence against Hindu women, the government has failed to take firm action, allegedly prioritizing its minority vote bank over the safety and justice for victims.
