A sensational murder case from Nagpur, Maharashtra, has shocked residents and investigators alike after police alleged that a man killed his longtime partner and then attempted to disguise the crime as an accidental electrocution. The case came to light after a post-mortem examination contradicted the initial appearance of the death and revealed evidence of a violent assault.
According to investigators, the accused, identified as Javed Sheikh Sahid Manniyar (35), was arrested within hours of the crime from Maharashtra’s Jalgaon district. The victim, identified as Kavita (35), had reportedly been in a relationship with the accused for nearly 15 years. Police allege that growing tensions over marriage demands ultimately culminated in her murder.
Marriage Dispute at the Centre of the Crime
Investigators say the relationship between the two dates back to their college years. Despite being in a long-term relationship, the couple could not marry due to opposition arising from their different religious backgrounds. Over the years, both individuals reportedly married other partners but continued to remain in contact.
Police sources indicate that the victim girl had been pressuring the accused to formalize their relationship through marriage. However, the accused, who was already married, was allegedly becoming increasingly distant. Frequent disagreements reportedly arose over the issue, creating significant strain between them.
The victim lived with her husband and two daughters, aged 11 and 13 years. On the day of the incident, her husband was reportedly away in his native village for work, while the children were visiting their uncle’s residence. This left the victim alone at home when the accused allegedly arrived.
How the Murder Was Allegedly Carried Out
According to the police investigation, an argument broke out between the pair on Sunday evening over the issue of marriage. During the altercation, the accused allegedly attacked the victim with a heavy object, striking her on the head. The injuries proved fatal.
Investigators allege that after killing the woman, the accused attempted to stage the scene to resemble an accidental death caused by electric shock. Being technically skilled in electrical work and air-conditioner repair, he allegedly used a heater and electrical equipment near the body to create the impression that the victim had been electrocuted.
Police further claim that the accused used a room heater or immersion heater on the victim’s body and arranged the scene in a manner intended to mislead investigators. He then allegedly fled Nagpur by train and travelled to Jalgaon.
Post-Mortem Report Changes the Course of Investigation
Initially, family members believed the woman had died due to accidental electrocution. However, the investigation took a dramatic turn when forensic experts conducted a post-mortem examination. Doctors reportedly discovered serious head injuries inconsistent with death by electric shock.
Medical findings suggested that the fatal injury was caused by a forceful blow to the head. The doctors also raised doubts regarding the electrocution theory, indicating that the heater may have been used only after death to create a false narrative. These findings immediately intensified police suspicion and transformed what appeared to be an accidental death into a homicide investigation.
Digital Evidence Helps Police Track the Suspect
Following the forensic findings, investigators scrutinized the victim’s mobile phone records. Call-detail analysis revealed regular communication between the victim and the accused, strengthening suspicions about his involvement in the case.
Police subsequently traced the accused’s location to Jalgaon. With assistance from local law-enforcement authorities, he was arrested and brought back for questioning. Investigators stated that the breakthrough came primarily from forensic evidence and mobile phone data, both of which helped establish the sequence of events.
A Relationship That Spanned 15 Years
One of the most striking aspects of the case is the length of the relationship. Police say the victim and accused had maintained a romantic extramarital association for approximately 15 years despite both eventually marrying other people.
Investigators revealed that the two remained in regular contact after marriage. The victim worked in a mess facility, while the accused earned a living repairing air-conditioning systems and carrying out electrical work. Over time, personal expectations and unresolved relationship issues allegedly escalated into conflict.
Investigation Continues
The case has triggered widespread attention because of the alleged attempt to conceal the murder through a carefully staged electrocution scenario. Police officials describe the matter as a combination of forensic investigation, digital evidence, and rapid inter-district coordination that enabled them to identify and apprehend the suspect within a short period.
As the investigation progresses, authorities are expected to further examine forensic evidence, witness statements, and electronic records to establish the complete chain of events. The incident has once again highlighted the critical role of post-mortem examinations and forensic science in uncovering the truth behind suspicious deaths.
