The tragic death of the Nookaraju family in Andhra Pradesh’s Kakinada district has taken a disturbing turn after a five-page suicide note attributed to 38-year-old Sowjanya surfaced, containing grave findings of prolonged blackmail, physical and mental torture, threats against her son, and pressure to convert to Islam. Sowjanya, her father Nookaraju, mother Meena, and grandson Riyansh reportedly jumped into the Godavari from the Rajamahendravaram Road-cum-Rail Bridge on August 16. While Riyansh survived after being rescued by fishermen, Nookaraju, Meena, and Sowjanya died. The findings in the note have remained central to the ongoing police investigation.
As per CNBCTV18 reports, the note states that Sowjanya points out that Islamist Sadiq Khan initially gained her confidence after obtaining personal information about her family through her son. She claimed that the relationship later turned into a campaign of intimidation and blackmail. The note further states that she was repeatedly assaulted whenever she resisted his demands and that she eventually reached a point where she contemplated suicide but continued to endure the harassment for the sake of her son. She further complained in the note that Sadiq monitored her communications and movements and attempted to exert extensive control over her personal life.
Kidnap threats by Sadiq turned her son into a weapon of fear
One of the most disturbing claims concerns Sowjanya’s son, Riyansh. She revealed that Sadiq joined the school where the boy studied as a coach and used his access to threaten that the child would be kidnapped if she refused to comply with his demands. The note also reportedly revealed that Sadiq threatened to sell the boy to terrorists and warned Sowjanya against seeking outside help. She claimed that these threats created an atmosphere of constant fear within the family. The continuous intimidation, according to the note, became so severe that she kept sleeping pills nearby because of the psychological pressure she was experiencing.
The suicide note also makes a serious statement regarding the death of Sowjanya’s husband, Jagadish Reddy. She claimed that Sadiq obtained a dangerous chemical from Canada through Mumbai and gave it to her husband, resulting in his death. She further revealed that after her husband’s death, Sadiq assumed control over important aspects of her life, including the house keys and property documents.
Sadiq pressured for the Islamic conversion
Another major concern is religious conversion. Sowjanya claimed that Sadiq pressured her to convert to Islam and instructed her to read Islamic literature and prepare notes on it every day. She revealed that refusal was met with physical violence. According to the account attributed to her, the abuse intensified shortly before the family’s death, with Sadiq assaulting her for three consecutive days. She also claimed that he took her to Uppada Beach, pushed her into the sea, and later pulled her back before threatening to throw her against rocks. She reportedly maintained in the note that she refused to abandon her faith despite the Islamic conversion pressure.
The case came to light after the family entered the Godavari from the Rajamahendravaram bridge. Police and fishermen reached the area after receiving a report, and Riyansh was rescued after spending about 20 minutes in the water and calling for help. Police later recovered a suicide note attributed to Nookaraju and another note from Sowjanya’s scooter. According to Kakinada Superintendent of Police Bindhu Madhav, Sadiq Khan’s name appeared in both. Police have said that the family had not previously lodged a formal complaint against him, while investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding the harassment and the deaths.
Following the incident, Sadiq reportedly switched off his phone and went into hiding. Police reportedly formed 10 special teams and searched across five states before arresting him in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. He was brought back to Kakinada on a transit warrant, medically examined, and produced before a court, which remanded him to 14 days of judicial custody. Investigators subsequently questioned him at Sarpavaram Police Station and are expected to seek further custody to establish the sequence of events. Police have also indicated that Sadiq’s shooting academy will come under scrutiny as part of the investigation.
Meanwhile, former YSRCP MP Vijayasai Reddy described the incident as more than a case of individual harassment and that it formed part of a planned love jihad conspiracy, further claiming that Sadiq had targeted other Hindu families with the intention of gaining control over their properties. The BJP has also staged protests in Kakinada, demanding severe punishment for Sadiq. With the suicide notes, the circumstances surrounding Jagadish Reddy’s death, the threats, radical Islamic conversion, and Sadiq’s dealings with the family all under investigation, the case now awaits corroboration through concrete evidence before the full truth behind the Nookaraju family tragedy can be established.
Such severe and coercive conversion tactics are not new to Bharat. For decades, there have been reports of coercion, intimidation, blackmail, and targeted attempts to convert Hindus in different parts of the country. The use of fear, manipulation, and threats to pressure individuals into abandoning their faith must be taken seriously. Hindu society must remain united, vigilant, and determined to confront such radical Islamist coercive practices while ensuring that those responsible are held accountable under the law.
