Liberals outrage as Shri Shivpratishtan’s Bhide Guruji asks reporter to put bindi

1
Guruji

Shri Shivpratishtan’s activist-leader Sambhaji Bhide Guruji refused to entertain a Saam TV reporter unless she sported a bindi. As expected, the liberal brigade was up in arms targeting Guruji and terming his demand as ‘insulting’ women. The incident took place after Bhide Guruji’s meeting with CM Eknath Shinde at Mantralay.

In the video when the reporter asks for a byte, Guruji says “I will talk to you after you put on a bindi. I believe that every woman is a form of Bharatmata. Bharatmata is not a widow. So wear a bindi & I’ll talk to you”. One fails to understand what is insulting here. Is equating every female to Bharatmata an insult? It would be so only in the view of those who disrespect Bharatmata.

Not surprisingly, State Women Commission headed by Congress-ally Nationalist Congress Party’s (NCP) Rupali Chakankar served a notice to Bhide Guruji. The notice says, “you refused to give an interview to a female reporter as she wasn’t sporting a bindi. A woman’s work and not what she wears defines her. By your comment, you have enraged the people of Maharashtra. The women’s commission wants to why you refused to give an interview to the reporter unless she put on a bindi”.

guruji

In her tweet accompanying the notice, Chakankar accused the activist of insulting women and journalism. She alleged that he had made such statements that ‘belittled’ women. However, one of the users rightly pointed out that the commission had simply turned a blind eye to Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut hurling abuses during a press conference.

It must also be noted that Chakankar was missing in action when a 13-year-old minor was brutally raped in Kolhapur. NCP’s Hindudvesh (Hindu hate) is evident in Chakankar’s biased actions. The Congress also displayed its Hindu hate as several of its leaders from the state came out in support of the journalist. The cabal targeted Guruji using the usual ‘Manusmriti’ and ‘Brahminical patriarchy’ trope. It is worth highlighting that many times posts such as these become a tool for ‘handing positions to rewarding party members.

Guruji’s official Twitter account put out a tweet condemning the liberal cabal and questioning them for supporting Muslim women sporting hijab.

Equally disappointing (to say the least) was the view of Amruta Fadnavis. “No one should dictate what women should do”, she opined. Well, it is doubtful if she even heard Guruji’s statement or presented her view in order to score a point with the liberals as many BJP leaders and those associated with them often do. For Amruta’s benefit, she should know that he only refused to talk to her unless she put on a bindi and he is well within his right to do so.

The Hindudveshi media took it as an opportunity to target Shri Bhide. The Indian Express report put the word Guruji in quotes to insinuate that the title wasn’t apt for the activist leader. It also used terms such as ‘right-wing leader’ and ‘known for controversial comments’ to cast aspersions on Guruji. Several ‘journalists’ (read Presstitutes) from Maharashtra also ‘stood with’ the Saam TV reporter.

guruji

Free Press Journal labelled him ‘sexist’ and carried the usual ‘Hindutva’ label that the anti-Hindu media uses to attack Dharmic leaders and give a negative connotation to the term.

guruji

It is amply clear that the entire issue is being blown out of proportion to target Bhide Guruji owing to his Dharmic roots. Moreover, they can hardly digest the fact that he is a leader who works on the ground for Hindus and preserves Hindu culture.

He is a PhD in Physics with a gold medal in MSc. In the 1980s, he quit his job as a professor at Pune’s Fergusson College to pursue his passion for preserving the forts of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and mobilizing the youth to participate in conservation efforts. The so-called Purogamis (Progressives), who use Chhatrapati’s name for political mileage, have hardly done a minuscule portion of Guruji’s work in this regard.

“He has been living here for the last 40 years. He uses an old bicycle to travel and walks barefoot. He has no belongings except books and the jute sacks he uses as a mattress and a towel as a pillow”, TOI quotes his neighbour Vaishali Bapat as saying.

“To another question on the state government’s decision to stop religious ceremonies in their offices, Bhide said he is offended by such a move as India belongs to Hindus. He says at a time when Hindu civilisation should be followed by the entire world, following secularism will damage the country. To live by the ideals of Chattrapati Shivaji is Hindutva according to Bhide. He wants the Hindu community to follow Shivaji Maharaj and Shambhaji Maharaj’s principles on how to live and die for the country. That should be every Hindu’s goal, said Bhide”, says Boom Live in its article on Guruji.

Only the ‘liberals’ will outrage when asked to sport a symbol inherent to Hindu Dharma only because it comes from someone whose ideology they disagree with. Those who use Rajmata Jijau’s name for their poliitics would do well to remember that she stood for protecting Hindutva and they who oppose it have no right to use Rajamata’s name.

Kathak maestro’s documentation of Gita Govinda nearing completion

1

Kathak is set to be enriched with a complete portrayal of the Gita Govinda, as its senior exponent Dr Pali Chandra is currently composing and choreographing all the 24 songs of the 12th century Sanskrit poem to record them as performances in the classical north Bharatiya dance.

Switzerland-settled Chandra has been working for five years on the pioneering endeavour in her native country’s heritage, aiming to fulfil the mission.

Roping in 150 people, the artiste’s project is being realised in Kerala with the cooperation of disciples from her Gurukul with units in Bharat as well as abroad.

A highlight of the unique initiative, in association with ICT consultant and service provider Invis culture-documenting multimedia company, is its exclusive stage, a forested location off Thiruvananthapuram using the famed model of Japanese botanist-ecologist Akira Miyawaki (1928-2021).

The recordings are being shot on that green 120-square metre plot at suburban Puliyarakonam, also considering that Jayadeva’s Gita Govinda mentions around 40 plants.

“Most of these in the vegetation are in the vicinity of our stage,” says Lucknow-born Dr Chandra, now settled in Zurich.

“Just six years ago, the entire area was barren. Today we have grown more than 400 species.”

The project by Dr Chandra, who received training under the illustrious Vikrama Singha and Kapila Mishra, will host detailed online teaching sessions for students.

“The idea is to continue the guru-shishya parampara through a platform named Natyasutraonline,” she says about the 2017-initiated series with Kerala-based Invis founding Managing Director M.R. Hari as the creative director.

Natyasutraonline.com is the classical dance platform of the 1995-founded Invis headquartered in Kerala.

Jayadeva, who is believed to be from eastern Bharat’s present-day Odisha, went on to become popular in the subcontinent’s southern peninsula. Dances such as Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi besides Kathakali and subsequently Mohiniyattam employ Gita Govinda compositions popularly in the format of eight-line Ashtapadis that are a chief feature of the work.

“No dance in our country has presented all the stanzas and songs of the Gita Govinda. This persuaded Invis to take up the task in Kathak,” says 55-year-old Dr Chandra, who is associated with prestigious international festivals for the past three decades.

Her Gurukul has organised workshops for research, choreography and training in no less than three continents.

Dr Chandra notes that choreographing and composing Gita Govinda in Kathak has been tough.

“For one, we face difficulty in identifying a single text of the classic,” she says about visualising its aesthetics in the dance that got a major impetus during the 16th century of the Mughal era (1526-1857). “There are several authors “Indian and foreign” who compiled, interpreted or translated the poem, resulting in variations, however minor. Hence, we chose to take different songs from different books, estimating their proximity to the original text.”

The music is being recorded with a team of singers from various parts of Bharat, led by composer B. Sivaramakrishna Rao and keyboard and rhythm arranger Venky D.C.

The production and post-production assignments are being undertaken by an Invis team of 100 members. Anitha Jayakumar, CEO of Natyasutraonline, is the project coordinator.

“The structure of the content of this project is also interesting,” points out Dr Chandra. “Besides classical dance performance, the artiste presents the content of the songs for the audience using dance as the language. The guru teaches the students the content and choreography and also guides them in the performance. The objective of the whole project is to present the classical text, its content richness and poetic beauty.”

The project will elaborately portray Radha, who is one of the most popular characters of Bharatiya ithasa, thanks to the classical poem.

The organisers are also readying a coffee-table book on the Gita Govinda. The text is being prepared by Dr Radhika Menon with mural paintings of artists V.S. Sudheer and K.K. Baiju in two different styles.

Deuba’s Nepali Congress and Oli’s CPN (UML) likely to make big electoral gains in Madhes, Nepal’s swing state

0

With November 20 elections for the House of Representatives and Provincial Assembly just three weeks away in Nepal, election fever is slowly gripping Madhes Province.

Rallies and campaigns have intensified across Terai ahead of the crucial elections that are being held for the second time after the country promulgated its first federal republican constitution in 2015. The first such elections took place in 2017.

Madhes Province borders India and shares close socio-cultural affinities with the neighbouring country. There are eight districts in the province, with 32 federal parliamentary seats. There are 107 seats in the provincial assembly headquartered in Janakpur.

As elections are inching closer, there are various projects and calculations over election results of Madhes.

The Madhes-centric parties are allying with traditional political parties in the elections, avoiding an electoral alliance with each other.

The Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) led by Upendra Yadav, a leading political force in Madhes, has allied with former Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli’s CPN (UML).

But, another Madhes-centric party Loktantrik Samajbadi Party (LSP), led by Mahantha Thakur has partnered with the five-party ruling coalition under the Nepali Congress.

Madhes-centric parties’ electoral alliance with the ruling and opposition parties is not based on ideology, but rather on electoral calculations.

The Madhes-centric parties, who once championed the agenda of federalism and inclusiveness, are struggling to ensure seats in the federal and provincial assemblies. In the upcoming polls they are partnering with the conventional political forces, which are mostly centrist and anti-federalist.

Analysts say that Madhes-centric parties are likely to lose elections this time around for their own past mistakes.

“In the last elections, Madhes-centric parties lured voters claiming they would make ground for amending the constitution to meet their demands. But when they got into power, they failed to live up to their promises — they could not lobby for creating a situation for the constitutional amendment. Rather, they got mired in the quagmire of power politics. Because of their failure to vocally advocate for Madhes’ agendas, the Madhesis are disassociating themselves from the regional parties and are yet to associate with the newer parties,” Tula Narayan Shah, a political analyst who also comes from the Madhes region, told Kathmandu Post newspaper in an interview on Monday.

Shah projected that two key Madhes-centric parties Janata Samajbadi Party and the Loktantrik Samajbadi Party will fare poorly in the polls as they lack public trust.

“They will get fewer seats than in the last elections. Loktantrik Samajbadi Party will witness a poorer performance than the Janata Samajbadi Party because they deviated from their core original agendas,” he observed.

Apart from traditional and Madhes-centric parties, some other fringe parties such as CK Raut-led Janamat Party have made their presence felt on the ground in the upcoming elections.

Analyst Shah says that he does not think Raut’s party will bring impactful results in the upcoming polls. “Major Madhes-based parties will shrink, and emerging parties in Madhesh don’t spark much hope,” he added.

The Nepali Congress has been the most influential political force in the Terai-Madhes region even after the emergence of regional parties on account of a massive Madhes uprising in 2008.

Since then, Madhes-centric parties are dominant political force in Madhes. Over the years, these regional parties played a vital role in the formation and dissolution of successive governments in the Center.

Madhes-centric parties under fire

When Nepal promulgated its first federal republic constitution in 2015, the Madhes-centric parties collectively launched months-long protest in Terai region, seeking amendments to the national charter. The traditional parties including the Nepali Congress, the CPN (UML) and the Maoist enacted the constitution through a two-thirds majority despite the fierce agitation in Madhes region that saw the killings of over 50 people.

The situation of traditional parties Vs Madhes-centric parties did not last long.

Because, the same Madhes-centric parties who protested the newly-promulgated constitution, joined elections along with major parties in the House of Representatives to pick a new prime minister in October 2015, inviting ire from the agitating population from Terai.

Seven years later, the Madhes-centric parties were seen disoriented as they abandoned their constitutional amendment agenda.

However, the present provincial government in Madhes is headed by Lal Babu Raut, a leader of the Janata Samajbadi Party led by Upendra Yadav. The provincial government is backed by the Nepali Congress, CPN (Maoist) and the CPN (Unified Socialist). At the federal level, the JSP quit the party after it joined the UMl-led electoral alliance in mid-October.

Congress may also win in Madhes

Analysts say the existing ruling alliance is likely to emerge victorious in the upcoming elections in Madhes and chief ruling party the Nepali Congress will be benefited the most this time around.

“Madhes has traditionally been a bastion of the Nepali Congress (NC). In the impending elections, too, every political force including Madhesis will have a fierce battle primarily with the NC as before. Ultimately, the NC will reap benefits from this alliance-based electoral competition,” Sitaram Baral, a senior journalist, who follows regional politics of Madhes closely, told India Narrative.

In view of the upcoming elections, the ruling alliance over the past few months has given an impression to the Madhesi people that it can be their savior. For example, the ruling alliance endorsed the long-delayed Citizenship bill in August from the federal parliament as a matter of urgency. It was widely believed that the prime political motto of the ruling alliance was to secure electoral gains mainly in Madhes region.

UML may also gain more seats

Similarly, the main opposition, CPN (UML) which has been described as anti-Madhesi might also secure more seats in parliament from this region, according to analyst Shah.

“The UML is not going to emerge victorious in Madhes. But, it will secure a better position than the past because there is a lack of public trust in Madhes-centric parties,” Shah noted.

Mahabharata by Japanese director to be screened in Varanasi

0

The Japan Information Centre, Embassy of Japan, will screen ‘Mahabharata’, a film directed by eminent Japanese director Hiroshi Koike, at Rudraksh, the International Cooperation and Convention Centre, here on December 17.

The entry to this event is by invitation only.

The screening is being held as the part of the 75th anniversary of Bharat’s independence and 70th anniversary of the establishment of Japan-Bharat diplomatic relations.

During his visit to Japan in May, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had personally interacted with the film director, commended his contribution for promoting Mahabharata, and also introduced the film on his radio programme, ‘Mann ki Baat’.

According to the officials of the Embassy of Japan, the cast includes performers from several Asian countries.

The result is a stunningly multi-cultural blend featuring traditional dance, music, song and costume from Cambodia, Thailand, Bharat, Malaysia, Japan and Indonesia.

Rudraksha – an Indo-Japanese architectural marvel in Varanasi – is a symbol of Modi-Shinzo (late Japanese premier Shizo Abe) friendship. It became operational on July 15, 2021.

The seed of Rudraksha was sown in Kyoto, where Modi and his then Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe announced the Kashi-Kyoto Partner City Agreement in August 2014.

In May 2022, the Embassy of Bharat invited the director Hiroshi Koike to report the results of the Mahabharata project to Prime Minister Modi, who visited Japan to attend the Quad Summit.

Koike and Prime Minister Modi spoke about the creations of Mahabharata in Japan, Bharat and other Asian countries.

Later, the Mahabharata project was introduced on the radio programme ‘Mann Ki Baat’, hosted by Prime Minister Modi.

The Hiroshi Koike Bridge Project, a company producing cultural projects and performances that fuse traditional Asian dances, theatre, movement, and art, will hold previews of the film in Varanasi.

“This project is a screening of the film version of the performance “The Mahabharata: Chapter of Desire/ Chapter of Tempest,” a stage adaptation of the Bharatiya epic Mahabharata directed by Hiroshi Koike,” said the Japanese officials.

According to them, Koike began directing and producing the Mahabharata from 2013 in Cambodia and since then has created various sections of the Mahabharata in five different Asian countries.

In August 2021, Koike presented a stage adaptation of the entire epic of Mahabharata as the culmination of his nine-year-long efforts since 2013.

UP police arrests pastor who conducted mass conversion drive in secret

Uttar Pradesh police arrested a pastor for forcibly converting Hindus through money and other allurements. He had issued new Aadhaar cards with new names to the converted. The pastor was arrested a few months ago but went absconding after securing bail.

Vijay Masih, a pastor who converted Hindus in groups in a village near Fatehpur has been arrested. He was arrested after the police received a tip off about a secretive mass conversion drive in a church in Hariharganj. Media reports say that on October 30 pastor Masih was giving religious lessons on Christianity in the Hariganj church. Reportedly he brought Hindus to the church on the pretext of praying.

He tried to convert them forcibly and police stopped the event after getting information about it. Police recovered many Aadhar cards from his premises. Upon investigating the pastor, it was revealed that they were new Aadhaar cards with new names prepared for Hindus who converted to Christianity.

Pastor Vijay Masih was booked in another case of mass conversion a few months ago. But he went into hiding and continued to convert more people. He was booked for luring economically backward Hindus by offering money and other allurements and forcing them to convert to Christianity. Police suspect that many more are involved in this conversion racket and are collecting more evidence to nab the other perpetrators.

“Masih was arrested in April for forcing a person to convert to Christanity but he got bail. During investigation, we found that he along with others were involved in forcing other persons to convert also. Other relevant sections of IPC were added to the case. Monday’s arrest was made in connection with the new sections”, police told media.

In April 2022, a similar mass conversion drive was exposed by Hindu outfits. They picketted the Evangelical Church of India(ECI) building in Fatehpur where more than 50 Hindus were rounded to to be converted through force and allurements. After Hindu outfits filed a complaint, 26 people including Vijay Kumar Samson, Reshma Samson, Ratna Daud, Sharon, Jyoti Monalisa, Geeta Masih and a few more were arrested. Pastor Vijay Masih was also arrested.

But they secured bail and continued to conduct mass conversion sessions in secret by luring Hindus in the name of healing prayers. Pastor Vijay Masih has now been arrested and another complaint about the recent mass conversion even has also been filed.

Have elderly Bengali Hindus also started leaving Kolkata?

It was initially young working population leaving Kolkata, now it’s the elderly. My in laws, like many, had it enough in Kolkata after spending their entire lifetime left the city after ~ 74 yrs. Like many, they can’t relate to the city & it’s culture anymore.

Couple of developments in the past few years.

1) Security- My FIL (father in law) was the President of one of the oldest Durga Puja Committee in Central Kolkata. He is well revered & well connected. Despite his local reputation, there was an attempted break in. Something unheard of in his hood.

2) When he put his property up for sale he spoke & met 96 prospective buyers. 94 were Muslims while 2 Hindus. All 94 wanted to buy the property in cash. Now, clearly demonetization was a failed venture that put the country through misery for nothing. Moreover Muslims are occupying Hindu belts at alarming rates, changing the demography of the city.

Another interesting observation. There is suddenly a huge trust deficit between the 2 communities. The moment my FIL sold his property some of the neighbors have already started exploring options to move out. They are perceiving Muslim neighbors as threats that is working to the benefit of the Muslim community. They are able to buy good properties on a distress sale.

3) Healthcare has completely collapsed in the city. We all are aware of it.

Million $ question – Will Bengali Hindus in #Bengal over time see the same fate as Jews in Israel? Fighting an existential battle to retain their identity & land?

2000 Red Fort terror attack: 8 years after staying his execution, SC reaffirms death penalty of Pakistani jihadi

1

The Supreme Court on Thursday dismissed a review petition filed by Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist Mohammad Arif alias Ashfaq against the death penalty awarded to him in the 2000 Red Fort attack case that left three people, including two army jawans, dead.

Pakistani national Md. Arif, from Abbottabad (the same military cantonment town where Osama Bin Laden was found hiding), was one of the 6 terrorists who had sneaked into the Red Fort on December 22, 2000 and opened indiscriminate fire on the guards of the seventh battalion of Rajputana Rifles. The Army personnel retaliated but the terrorists managed to escape.

The Indian State regards the Red Fort as the seat of its power and the PM addresses the nation on Independence Day from its ramparts.

A bench comprising Chief Justice Uday Umesh Lalit and Justice Bela M Trivedi said, “We have accepted the prayers that electronic records must be placed in consideration. His guilt is proved. We affirm the view taken by this court and reject the review petition.”

Interestingly, the apex court seems to have stayed his execution twice – once in 2007, and then another time in 2014. In between, the SC also upheld the death penalty in 2011. The capital punishment for the terrorist was first announced by a sessions court in 2005, and later affirmed by the Delhi High Court.

Md. Arif and his Indian wife Rehmana Yousuf Farooqui were arrested on Dec 26, 2000 following an encounter in Jamia Nagar area of south Delhi. In 2005, a trial court convicted 6 others besides Arif – Srinagar-based father-and-son duo Nazir Ahmed Qasid and Farooq Ahmed Qasid (for life); Arif’s wife, Babar Mohshin Bhagwala, Sadakat Ali and Matloob Alam (7 years) – while acquitting 4 accused.

However, in 2007 the Delhi HC set aside the conviction of the 6 others for ‘lack of evidence’ while affirming the death penalty handed to Arif. Another suspected LeT operative involved in funding the Red Fort attack, Srinagar-based ‘businessman’ Bilal Ahmad Kawa, was apprehended in 2018 at Delhi airport. However, within a month he was granted bail by a Delhi court. No further updates are available on his case.

Going by our judiciary’s track record, this might not be the last appeal this dangerous Pakistan terrorist and his legal team get to file. An attempt for a Presidential Pardon will surely be made, if not already exercised. Even if his execution date is announced sometime in the near future, in all probability we will witness another last-minute clemency appeal by influential Lutyens’ lawyers like the 2015 mid-night hearing in SC that Anand Grover and others managed to obtain for 1993 blast convict Yakub Memon.

Russian Senator claims Pakistan and Ukraine held talks on developing nukes

0
Pakistan

The Pakistan Foreign Office has sought an explanation from Russia after its Senator Igor Morozov reportedly claimed that Islamabad and Ukraine recently held talks for developing nuclear weapons.

“We are surprised by such an unfounded and baseless statement,” Dawn news quoted a statement issued from the office of FO spokesperson Asim Iftikhar Ahmed as saying.

A Russian state news agency report said that “Ukrainian specialists went to Pakistan and received a delegation from there to discuss technologies and know-how for creating nuclear weapons”.

Morozov reportedly made the allegations during a press conference that was “part of the Ukrainian dossier special project”, the report added.

“He said that it is not a secret that Ukraine can create a ‘dirty bomb’ but questioned who are invested in the project,” the report claims.

Reacting to the allegations, Islamabad said the Senator’s reported statement was “without any rationale and entirely inconsistent” with the spirit of Pakistan-Russia relations, Dawn reported.

“We are seeking clarification on this from Moscow,” the statement added.

Imran Khan shot and wounded during PTI protest march in Pakistan

Pakistan’s former PM Imran Khan has been shot and wounded during his party’s long march in the city of Wazirabad, Punjab province, Pakistan. Khan has been at loggerheads with the Pakistani establishment, including the Army, ever since his govt was dismissed after losing a no-confidence vote in April.

PTI has called it an apparent assassination attempt. As per a local report, one person was killed, and seven were injured including PTI senator Faisal Javed Khan. Two suspects have reportedly been arrested.

The shooting took place when PTI’s long march container-caravan reached Allah Wala Chowk in Wazirabad in the afternoon. The firing triggered panic and a stampede, in which more people are feared to have been injured.

Khan has been demanding snap elections, and he and other PTI leaders have openly spoken against the Pakistan Army, which is widely believed to be an extra-Constitutional authority manipulating Pakistan’s troubled democracy from the time the country was founded.

The ISI chief and a senior Army general had held an unprecedented press conference a few days back to counter some of the charges that Imran and PTI have made against the military establishment.

Pakistan has been ruled by military dictators for 33 years since its formation in 1947. Former PM Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, who had threatened to wage a 1000 year war with Bharat, was deposed by Gen. Zia-ul-Haq and hanged to death in 1979. His daughter and former PM Benazir Bhutto was assassinated in 2007 during a political rally ahead of elections announced by outgoing dictator Gen. Pervez Musharraf.
