Even months after the Anti-Hindu pogrom in Bangladesh, the Bangladeshi authorities have been unsuccessful in curbing the attacks on Hindus by Islamists in the country. The minorities of the Islamic country are living in one of the worst times for them even after 50 years of Bangladesh’s liberation. Murders of Hindus, abduction, and rape of Hindu women, and looting of Hindu property have become an everyday occurrence in the country and yet it raises no eyebrows. But, what needs to be discussed at length is the concept of land grabbing. Grabbing of Hindu-owned land or land of temples by influential Muslim individuals has grown into a huge threat in present-day Bangladesh.
In a recent video that has surfaced online, a victimized Hindu man in Bangladesh narrates how he has been under attack by local Muslims who are eyeing his land. Reportedly, the video is from Jalla, Sylhet municipality, Sylhet Bangladesh, where religious fanatics had threatened 24 Hindu families forcing them to leave the country. In the visuals coming in from Bangladesh, that HinduPost has not been able to verify independently, Hindu victim named Monendraranjan Dey stated that the Chairman of Madani city society had been trying to grab 11.44 acres Hindu land and wants to drive out the Hindu families from their own land.
The victim accuses that a gang of local fanatics had ransacked their homes and tried to drive them, the religious minorities, out of their homes and capture their land. One of the Muslim men repeatedly questioned him why do they (the Hindus) not leave the country, says Monendraranjan. He further added that the attackers had demanded that the Hindus leave this country (Bangladesh) and go to Bharat. But the victim, in turn, asks why they (the Hindus) must leave this country. He asserts this is their country too; their ancestors had fought to liberate the country.
This is not the first time that an individual holding an administrative position has been accused of trying to grab land belonging to the minorities. The incumbent mayor of Narayanganj City Corporation, Selina Hayat Ivy Rahman has also been accused of grabbing lands belonging to Hindu temples.
The administration-backed atrocities on the Hindus are not limited to land-grabbing only. In another harrowing visual that surfaced on social media, a Hindu family is seen mourning the death of a family member.
Users on social media claim that on 29 November 2021, after poll violence a Hindu schoolboy named Adhita Roy was killed by the firing of Border Guards Bangladesh at Ghidov village in Kongaon union, of Pirganj in Tagoregao. Some social media handles from Bangladesh have also claimed that Hindus were attacked and brutally assaulted during the local elections at ward no 8 in Potiya, Coxbazar on Sunday, December 26.
During the times of elections, the Hindus of Bangladesh become just as vulnerable as the Hindu Bengalis of West Bengal do. They are targeted by both the leading political parties of the country and receive no support from local administration or the police department, both being infiltrated by Islamist elements. The future of the Bengali Hindu, thus, looks equally endangered in Bharat’s West Bengal as it does in Islamic Bangladesh.
