A Bangladeshi Muslim man named Abedin has been accused of getting his Hindu wife Jaya publicly hacked to death. The brutal murder took place in Dinajpur on the evening of September 27. According to available information, one person was arrested in this regard and further investigation is underway.
Abedin gets Jaya murdered
On the evening of Wednesday, September 27, a horrific incident unfolded at the Mirzapur Bus Terminal Canteen in Dinajpur, Bangladesh. At approximately 6:30 pm, concerned local residents rushed to the scene upon discovering a woman lying on the road in front of the Fighter Club, near the Mirzapur Bus Terminal. They encountered a gruesome sight with the woman suffering severe wounds and profuse bleeding from various parts of her body. Swiftly, they transported her to the hospital in an attempt to save her life.
The Dinajpur Kotwali police station provided information identifying the victim as Jaya Burman, a 32-year-old woman who was previously married to Swapan Roy and hailed from Bandanga village in the Thakurgaon Pirganj police station area. Jaya Burman resided in a rented house with her 13-year-old daughter, who was studying in seventh class. She was employed at Abdul Jabbar’s hotel within the bus terminal. It’s noteworthy that she had converted to Islam and later married a man named Abedin.
According to accounts from both the police and local eyewitnesses, Jaya Burman was en route to her residence that evening after completing her work shift at the hotel. Unfortunately, just a few hundred yards away from the hotel, she fell victim to a brutal attack perpetrated by individuals associated with Abedin. They openly wielded sharp weapons, inflicting grievous injuries upon her. She was rescued by locals who rushed her to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital. However, the attending doctor declared her deceased.
Additional Superintendent of Police, Sheikh Jinnah Al Mamun of the Sadar Circle visited the scene and assured that intensive operations and investigations were underway to uncover the true motives behind this heinous crime and bring the culprits to justice.
Mohammad Jabbar, the proprietor of Hotel Saudia located within the bus terminal, was unavailable for comment. Meanwhile, several bus terminal employees revealed that Jaya Burman had been employed at the hotel for approximately five months, but she had been absent from work for the past five or six days until her return on that ill-fated day.
When questioned about any prior incidents involving the victim, some of her colleagues among the bus terminal workers attested to her amiable nature and mentioned they had not witnessed or heard of any disputes involving her. However, it was reported that following her marriage to Abedin, she had endured various forms of physical abuse. In the end, she decided to sever ties with Abedin. Many believe her decision to leave him may have triggered the violent outburst from Abedin that led to this tragic loss of life.
The plight of Bangladeshi Hindus
Jaya may have paid the price of marrying Abedin and the possibility of the latter trapping her in a grooming/love jihad trap cannot be ruled out. Minority Bangladeshi Hindus are faced with Islamist violence every day. The attacks on Hindu temples and families, either out of hatred or in order to grab their lands, are ever-increasing. Moreover, Hindu girls are kidnapped and forcibly converted to Islam or raped and murdered.
The minority community is already being terrorized by ultra-Islamist parties like the Bangladesh Nationalist Party and its ideological ally Jamaat-e-Islami. The fearlessness with which Abedin had Jaya brutally murdered openly raises serious questions about the safety of minorities in Islamist Bangladesh. In a country where justice is almost impossible for the Hindu minorities and where Islamists operate with impunity will Jaya get justice?
