19-year-old Mamatazwul Malik detained over Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba links in Karnataka

A joint operation by central intelligence officials and local police has led to the detention of Mamatazwul Malik, a West Bengal-origin goldsmith working at a jewellery shop in Kalaburagi, over links with Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). According to the Asianet News report, investigators suspect that Mamatazwul maintained contact with individuals linked to the organization through social media and shared sensitive information through messages. He is being questioned as authorities work to establish the nature and extent of his connections.

Mamatazwul Malik worked under the guise of a jewelry shop worker

Mamatazwul reportedly worked as a goldsmith at a jewelry shop in the Saraf Bazaar area of Kalaburagi alongside his brother. The operation took place within the jurisdiction of the Brahmapur police station. Investigators are examining his digital communications and other potential evidence to determine whether the contacts involved any criminal or terror-related activity.

An earlier arrest provided investigators with a lead

The detention follows the earlier arrest of Mohammed Sameer, 23, a Uttar Pradesh native who reportedly worked at a slaughterhouse in Kalaburagi. Police had recovered terror-related images and videos while examining Sameer’s mobile phone. Information obtained during his questioning reportedly led investigators to Malik. Authorities are now examining whether the two cases are connected and whether the digital evidence points to a wider network.

Investigators are reportedly examining messages, online contacts, and other digital records as part of the probe. Such evidence can be important in determining whether suspected contacts amount to operational support, the exchange of sensitive information, or other unlawful activity. The contents of the messages and the precise nature of the information reportedly shared have not been independently established in the available account.

Karnataka government says the probe is continuing

Karnataka Home Minister Priyank Kharge reportedly said that two individuals had been detained in connection with allegations of links to Lashkar-e-Taiba. Following questioning, investigators concluded that one individual had links with terror organizations, and his interrogation was continuing, according to the statement cited in the report. Authorities are continuing to examine the suspects’ activities and possible connections, while intelligence and police teams remain alert to potential security threats.

The case highlights the importance of effective intelligence sharing, digital forensics, and coordinated police action in countering terrorism. Any credible evidence of support for a terrorist organization must be investigated thoroughly, and those found responsible should face the full force of the law.

Where is Karnataka heading if such terror links and security threats are allowed to take root? Effective intelligence gathering and timely police action deserve recognition for potentially preventing major terror conspiracies before they can be executed. The Congress government must ensure that illegal infiltration, radicalization, and any support networks linked to terrorism are investigated decisively, with no radical Islamic appeasement.
