Actress-model Poonam Pandey assaulted by husband Sam Ahmed, again

Mumbai-based model and actress Poonam Pandey has accused her husband of one year, Sam Ahmed, aka Sam Bombay, of severe domestic violence. Mumbai Police has arrested Ahmed after the actress made a formal complaint of assault against him.

According to reports by ANI, Pandey has been admitted to a hospital after she lodged the complaint with the Bandra Police Station on Monday, November 8. She has suffered severe injuries on her face, eyes and head.

“The case has been registered against Sam Bombay under the sections of Indian Penal Code (IPC). The actress has suffered serious injuries on her head, eyes and face,” informed the Mumbai police.

Poonam had levied accusations of assault against her husband previously as well; that was just days after her much-reported marriage to the 36-year-old small-time movie producer, director and editor. The newly-wed couple was in South Goa’s Canacona village and preparing for a movie shoot when the actress approached the local police to lodge a police complaint claiming that Sam Ahmed had molested and assaulted her, and then threatened her with dire consequences.

A case of domestic violence was lodged against Ahmed by Goa police. They had booked him later that day under Sections 353 (causing hurt), 353 (insult), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 354 (outraging modesty) of the Indian Penal Code. Ahmed was also arrested by the Goa police and the following day granted conditional bail by a Goa court.

But soon Poonam reconciled with her husband. She also said that things had been ‘blown out of proportion’ and said “which marriage does not have its ups and downs.” She had also stated in an interview given to ET Times and she and Ahmed had sorted out things.

The couple had tied the knot on September 1 last year after 2 years of living together in Mumbai. Poonam had posted her wedding pictures on Instagram captioning them “Here’s looking forward to seven lifetimes with you.”

Unfortunately, the marriage so far has not been smooth for the actress. Police have further added the details of the dispute between Poonam and her husband Ahmed are not known yet. The investigation is underway.

Bollywood personalities have a long history of domestic violence and assaults on partners. Shah Abbas Khan’s (aka Sanjay Khan) deranged assault on his second wife Zeenat Aman in a 5-star hotel in Mumbai, cheered on by his first wife Zarine Khan, still sends chills down the spine. Zeenat suffered permanent damage to her eye that day. Salman Khan is a serial abuser, who has assaulted likes of Aishwarya Rai, Somy Ali and Katrina Kaif while being in relationships with them. He also threatened Rai to perform stage shows for his underworld friends.

Superstar Rajesh Khanna used to beat up his wife Dimple Kapadia, 15 years his junior, and burn her with cigarettes. Pakistani singer Adnan Sami, who was granted Indian citizenship in 2015 and the Padma Shri this year, has also been accused of domestic violence by his ex-wife Sabah Galadari.
