Dalit Woman With Handicapped Husband Beaten by Muslim Neighbours for Refusing to Convert to Islam – Meerut, UP

Another incident of Dalit Hindus being persecuted & sexually harassed by Muslim neighbours has come to light from Western UP. Bina Gautam, a married Dalit lady was attacked inside her house by 3 Muslim brothers when she refused to convert to Islam and marry one of the brothers. The incident has come to light in Kanshiram Colony of Kharkhauda Thana in Meerut.

After assaulting Bina, the accused threatened her to leave the colony and set her house belongings on fire. The terrorised woman lodged a complaint to the police, who have now arrested the prime accused Azad, son of Shafiq.

Bina Gautam lives with her husband and two daughters in Kanshiram Colony and runs an NGO. Her husband is handicapped and is sick since some time. A resident of the same colony Azad, son of Shafiq was pressurizing her for marriage since a long time. Bina had complained about this to Azad’s family, but they didn’t stop him.

On the evening of January 7th, Azad along with his brothers Fareed and Leel arrived at Bina’s home with non-veg food when she was alone at home. Azad started forcing her to eat non-veg food and pressurizing her to convert to Islam and marry him. When Bina shouted for help, Azad’s brothers forcefully closed her mouth. When the woman refused to be subdued, the 3 accused started beating her and broke her head. When people  started gathering, they threatened her and set her household things on fire and then ran away.

Upon receiving information about the assault, Kharkhauda police arrived at the spot and arrested Azad. Police station in-charge Pramod Kumar Gautam said that both the victim and accused are neighbours. The woman has alleged she was being forced to convert, whereas the accused claimed it was a minor dispute. Police is investigating the matter. Bajrang Dal and other Hindu organizations arrived at the spot to support the attacked Dalit woman, and spoke to the SSP to punish the accused.

While it’s not fair to judge an entire community on an isolated incident, the clear pattern of Islamic extremism in Muslim majority areas manifesting itself in the form of forced conversions, sexual preying and other persecution of non-Muslims cannot be ignored. Lets look at few such instances which have occurred only in recent months –

Such incidents also expose the left-liberal  propagandist narrative that a Dalit-Muslim alliance exists which can solve the issues facing both Dalits and Muslims. The reality is that rising Islamist intolerance is the foremost danger for social cohesion across the country, and especially in areas like West UP, Mewat etc.
