“The Kerala Story 2” is not comfortable viewing. It is also, for that very reason, necessary viewing.
At its core, the film attempts something Indian mainstream culture has long avoided: it asks Hindus to look directly at how fundamentalist Islam and Christianity frame them not as neighbours or fellow citizens, but as kafirs/heathens to be corrected, converted or crushed. It invites families to talk plainly about this, at the dinner table rather than in hushed tones or emotional WhatsApp forwards. That alone makes it an important cultural moment.
