Attacks on the Hindus are continuing in West Bengal. A fresh case has been received from the Maldah district of West Bengal where Islamists targeted Hindu community just for building a temple. Hindu houses and Hindu-owned shops were looted and vandalized. To prevent further escalation of violence, a massive police force has been deployed in the area.
The incident occurred on the night of 17th of May in Durgapur bus stand area of Rotua. As per the local sources, Hindus were building a temple in the area. The construction work was going on for the last few days. But, surprising some radical elements from the local Muslim community expressed their objections. Hindus didn’t pay heed to them and continued the construction.
On the night of 17th of May, hundreds of radical Islamists targeted the Hindu community in the area. A massive amount of stones and bricks were thrown towards the Hindu houses. Bricks were also thrown towards the under-construction temple. Many shops and houses were looted and vandalized.
Besides, some Hindu-owned cars and e-rickshaws were vandalized.
Local Hindus alleged that they immediately informed the police seeking help. But, a few numbers of police personnel came and couldn’t do anything to stop the violent radical mob.
However, last month, Hindus were attacked by the Islamists in the Murshidabad district. Hundreds of Hindu families had to flee from their homes due to the violence. There also, the police and the administration failed to stop the violent radical Islamists mob. Till now, to provide security to the Hindu villagers, Central forces are deployed.
