Kodungallur Bhagavathi Temple desecrated in Thrissur, Kerala

Sree Kurumba Bhagavati Temple in Kodungallur, Thrissur district, was vandalized and desecrated early morning. The ‘Moolavigraham’ (sculpture of the main deity) and the lamp post were smashed.

Ramachandran, a resident of Parassala, Thiruvananthapuram, who committed the violence, was arrested by police and locals. In protest against the incident, the Hindu Aikya Vedi announced a dawn-to-dusk hartal in the Kodungallur municipal area.

The attacker entered the Temple near the old municipal office in the south Nada (entrance) around 4.30 am today. He gained entry by cracking the steel gates and locks. The criminal then smashed the granite murti and the bronze lamp post with an iron rod.

Locals who saw the incident informed the police. The assailant, still inside the Temple, tried to escape when he saw the police, but he was chased and arrested.

Kerala police claimed that Ramachandran is mentally ill, but devotees are not ready to accept their version. Shouldn’t the authorities have prevented this attack even if he were mentally disturbed?

He had stayed in a lodge near the Temple for three days. All these days, he lingered around the Temple and even had an altercation with the staff. Authorities should have intimated the intelligence bureau about such anti-social elements roaming near the Temple. They did not. Witnesses added that the accused behaved like a normal person and chased away a local who tried to intervene.

So as per the police, a mentally deranged person traveled hundreds of kilometers alone without any motive. He then camped at Kodungallur, drenched himself in oil and arrived naked at the Temple before dawn. This version did not impress Devi devotees. Many do know that someone soaked in oil can be slippery when someone tries to hold or nab them.

Therefore, the locals claimed that neither the police nor the authorities were ready to provide proper security to the Temple. The fact that such an ancient temple does not have CCTV coverage or round-the-clock security has baffled Bhagavathi followers. Hindu leaders alleged that the whole incident was pre-planned.

Communist justifiers quickly jumped in and tried their hand at damage control. A Devaswom official claimed that the Moolavigraham is not protected like the temple. Rather shamelessly, he asserted that even the Nivedhyam and daily pooja here happen courtesy of the Devaswom itself. Lakhs arrive to get a glimpse of the Devi and they bring copious amounts of money to fill the Sree Kurumba Bhagavati Temple Hundi.

The New Indian Express (TNIE) claimed that the Moolavigraham is about 1.5 km from the main Temple. This is a pure lie. It is situated barely meters from the sanctum sanctorum. They also asserted that the Moolavigraham was first used for worship by the devotees centuries back. For their information, all Kodungallur festivities and processions start from this exact location and every day, temple poojaris light lamps here.

TNIE (the serial crimes against Hindus legitimizer) did admit that the temple complex is centuries old. There are also other dark forces at play. The Cheraman Juma Masjid, built in 629 CE, is the oldest converted mosque in the subcontinent, which is still in use. It is less than 2 km from the Kodungallur Bhagavati Temple.

More details about the crime are awaited. Given the massive Talibanization that Kerala society is currently going through, experts opined that this desecration, too, shall be passed off as an isolated incident. To expect justice from the green communist government is foolish. Would the state have chosen a similar attitude had this happened in a church or a mosque?

Hindus have long demanded that, since the state cannot protect our places of worship, free our temples. Hindus know very well how to protect, maintain and expand our Temples. Incidentally, this is something that even the central BJP government is unwilling to do. Would the attacker have survived had he desecrated a mosque or a gurdwara?

Radical Islamists, the Christian conversion mafia, and the local communist Hindus In Name Only (HINOs) have long tried to destroy the Temple. They have even used administrators and the state police to forcefully destroy Hindu rituals and customs. Last year, S Shanavas IAS, the district collector, did not even allow oracles to enter the temple premises.

Back then, HinduPost reported how police officers wearing leather boots entered the Temple and arrested two oracles for violating a ban on animal sacrifice. The tradition of sacrificing a couple of roosters for the Devi dates back hundreds of years. The communist regime introduced the Kerala Animals and Birds Sacrifices Prohibition Act of 1968, which prohibited sacrificing animals only in Temples to please the deity.

The situation was the same in 2021. Police dragged away the oracles and Hindu devotees while performing the rites. Officers deployed inside the Temple arrested nine persons in this connection.

Ironically, during Bakra eid, lakhs of sheep are openly slaughtered in and around mosques all over Kerala and the world. Christians butcher Turkeys at will during their festivities. Both these animal sacrifice rituals are not part of the Bharatiya tradition.

Parassala is a small town near the border of Kerala and Tamil Nadu, almost 300 km from Kodungallur. The whole area is in the grip of massive Evangelism, and the conversion mafia/Crypto Christians rule the region. Since Kodungallur Temple is surrounded by Muslims, others pointed out that a jihadi angle too could not be ruled out.

  1. Who can we blame when a “Ramachandran” himself has done this. Will a Muslim ever do such a thing to a mosque? Why are there so many HINO’s among us alone? These are uncomfortable questions.
