Jinnat Ali arrested after abduction of married Hindu woman in Assam’s Chagolia during Durga Puja; victim rescued following police search

A tense missing-person case in Chagolia, a border region of Dhubri district in Assam, has culminated in the rescue of a Hindu woman and the arrest of a man accused of abducting her. The incident, which unfolded over nearly a week, drew significant attention in the area after the woman’s family launched an extensive search before approaching the police for help.

According to reports, the victim, a married Hindu woman and the mother of one child, had been missing since 20 October. Family members searched multiple locations and contacted relatives and acquaintances in an effort to trace her whereabouts. However, after two days of unsuccessful efforts, they lodged a complaint with Chagolia Police on 22 October, triggering an official investigation.

Incident Reported During Durga Puja Celebrations

The woman’s family has alleged that she was abducted during the Durga Puja festivities. According to the complaint, she had gone out to view Durga Puja murtis when she disappeared under suspicious circumstances. This has become a central aspect of the ongoing investigation, with police examining the sequence of events leading up to her disappearance.

Durga Puja is one of the largest Hindu festivals observed across eastern and northeastern India, attracting thousands of devotees and visitors to community celebrations and murti-viewing events. The fact that the disappearance occurred during such festivities has heightened public concern in the locality.

Police Launch Search, Trace Victim

Following the registration of the complaint, Chagolia Police initiated a search operation to locate the missing woman. Officers reportedly gathered information from various sources and followed multiple leads as part of the investigation. After several days of inquiry and field-level verification, police succeeded in tracing the woman and ensuring her safety.

The successful recovery of the victim marked a major breakthrough in the case. Police sources indicated that their preliminary investigation pointed towards the involvement of a local resident in the incident, leading to swift action against the suspect.

One Person Arrested

During the course of the operation, police arrested Jinnat Ali, a resident of Boterhat village. Investigators reportedly suspect his involvement in the abduction based on findings gathered during the initial stage of the probe.

Authorities have emphasized that the investigation is continuing and that all relevant facts and circumstances surrounding the woman’s disappearance are being examined. Additional evidence and witness statements may further clarify the nature of the incident as the inquiry progresses.

Produced Before Court

After his arrest, Jinnat Ali was produced before the Dhubri Court in accordance with legal procedures. The judicial process is now expected to determine the next course of action as investigators proceed with the case.

Six-Day Timeline of the Case

The case unfolded over approximately six days, from the woman’s disappearance to the arrest of the accused and the filing of related proceedings. Key developments include:

  • 20 October: The woman reportedly went missing from the Chagolia area.
