A gruesome murder has shocked Karnataka after Akshatha Indaragi (30) was found dead inside a locked rented house in Bengaluru’s Jigani. Police have named her live-in partner, Islamist Nana Saab, as the prime suspect and launched an intensive manhunt after he allegedly disappeared soon after the incident.
As per the Organiser reports, Akshatha, a native of Ilkal in the Bagalkot district, had reportedly been living with Nana Saab in a rented house near Patalamma Temple, Jigani, for the past six months. Before moving to Bengaluru, she had been married to Krishna Indaragi for nearly 12 years, and the couple had two children. According to investigators, she left her matrimonial home around six months ago after entering into a relationship with Nana Saab, whom she reportedly met while working in the saree weaving industry in Ilkal.
The horrifying incident came to light on June 17, when neighbors noticed a strong foul smell emanating from the locked house, which had remained closed for several days. Concerned residents alerted the property owner, municipal councillor F. Ramesh, who immediately informed the Jigani Police. Officers broke open the door and recovered Akshatha’s highly decomposed body from inside the residence.
Police initially registered an unnatural death case, but the investigation took a dramatic turn after the post-mortem examination reportedly concluded that Akshatha had suffered physical assault and died due to strangulation. The case was subsequently converted into a murder investigation.
Investigators also examined CCTV footage from the locality, which reportedly showed Islamist Nana Saab leaving the rented house before disappearing. Since then, he has remained absconding; multiple police teams have been deployed to trace and arrest him while investigators continue analyzing CCTV footage, forensic evidence, call records, and witness statements to reconstruct the events leading to the murder. During the investigation, police also found that Nana Saab had allegedly contracted another marriage. Officials are examining his relationships, his interactions with the victim, and the circumstances that culminated in Akshatha’s death.
The brutal killing has triggered widespread outrage in Karnataka. Members of the Bajrang Dal staged protests outside the Jigani Police Station, demanding the immediate arrest of Nana Saab and stringent legal action. The Hindu organization alleged that Akshatha had been lured into the love jihad before being murdered.
However, the Karnataka Police have not officially characterized the case as love jihad. The case has generated intense public attention because of the Hindu victim’s disappearance from her family, her live-in relationship with the absconding suspect, and the gruesome manner in which her body was discovered. It has also reignited public debate, with several organizations calling for a thorough investigation and swift justice for Akshatha. As of now, radical Islamist jihadi Nana Saab remains at large, and police have intensified efforts to locate him. Authorities have assured that all legal action will be pursued once he is apprehended and the investigation is completed.
