An emotional scene unfolded in Vijayapura after a young Hindu woman who had left home returned to the police station with the Islamist man she loved and refused to go back with her parents, insisting she would live only with her Islamist husband. Outside the Gandhi Chowk Police Station, her parents reportedly spent the night in tears, pleading with their daughter to return home. Despite repeated appeals, she refused to step out with them and left with her partner instead.
Missing complaint filed after daughter disappeared
According to Asianet Suvarna News reports, the parents had filed a missing persons complaint on February 4 after their daughter, Nisha Chauhan, went missing. The case took a dramatic turn when Nisha later appeared at the Women’s Police Station along with Islamist Mohammed Salim Sutar and clarified that she had not been kidnapped or forced.
Woman tells police she married by choice
Nisha told the police that the two were in love and had already married. She firmly stated that she would not return with her parents and would instead continue her life with her husband. After confirming that both individuals were adults, the police allowed the couple to leave together.
Mother’s emotional plea fails to change the decision
Upon learning that their daughter had arrived at the station, Nisha’s parents rushed there hoping to bring her back. Her mother reportedly broke down in tears and repeatedly begged her to return home, but Nisha remained resolute and refused to step outside to meet them. She eventually left the police station in a police vehicle with her husband, leaving her parents devastated.
It is deeply disturbing to see young Hindu women distancing themselves from their parents for Islamist partners whose backgrounds they may not fully know, especially in light of alarming reports of post-love jihad violence, inhumane killings, and instances of coercion. Hindu organizations such as VHP, Bajrang Dal, and Sri Rama Sene should focus on educating people. The books on ‘Love Jihad’ being launched in different parts of Karnataka should reach every household, and every girl should be made aware of these concerns and tactics by the radical Islamic elements.
