Hindus under attack: a weekly roundup of hate crimes, persecution, and discrimination against Hindus

Attacks on Hindus and Hindu Dharma, both in Bharat and overseas, are frequent and unrelenting. In many regions of the world, this persecution is like a genocide slowly unfolding before our eyes. For decades, the world has ignored the actual depth and breadth of these attacks, driven by disturbing anti-Hindu bigotry. From murders, forced conversions, land grabs, assault on festivals, desecration of temples and murtis, hate speech, and sexual violence to institutionalised & legal discrimination, Hindus are facing an increasing assault on their very existence along with an unprecedented Hindu hatred.

In this weekly summary for the period from 03 August to 09 August 2025, we hope to provide a snapshot of such crimes and hopefully awaken more people around the world to this human rights crisis:

Bharat

1) A self-styled doctor named Naeem Qadri, alias Peer, has been arrested for pressuring a Hindu woman to convert her minor daughter to Islam and marry her off to him. The accused has now been exposed as a quack with no legitimate medical degree, who operated a fraudulent clinic while secretly practicing occult rituals, black magic, and faith healing to manipulate women.

2) A government school principal in Uttar Pradesh, Mohammad Salauddin, was suspended after allegations emerged that he forced Hindu students to learn Urdu and pressured them to question their religious beliefs. The incident took place at a composite school in Harvanshpur Dharam, Bijnor district.

3) A shocking incident has come to light from Chaubepur, Varanasi, where a Hindu man has accused his wife and an Islamist youth, Mohammad Afzal from Prayagraj, of being involved in an alleged conversion conspiracy. The man has claimed that his wife had fallen into manipulation and conversion and was in regular contact with Afzal through social media. He further alleged that Afzal had trapped her in a love affair and was possibly trying to convert her religion.

4) A major breakthrough occurred in the Deoria district when police arrested Sameer Ali, accused of a suspected love jihad conspiracy. Acting on an urgent complaint from Sadar MLA Dr. Shalabh Mani Tripathi regarding multiple incidents in the Gauri Bazaar police station area, law enforcement teams mobilized quickly.

5) Tamil actor Kamal Haasan, who once admitted to spreading the word of Christ has expressed his desire to ‘’break the chains’ of Sanatan Dharma.

6) A 22-year-old seer, who had been living in a mutt in Chamarajanagar in Karnataka, left the mutt after locals found out about his Muslim identity.

7) In a shocking case of Love Jihad, the Uttar Pradesh (UP) police successfully recovered a kidnapped teenage Hindu girl and arrested the accused, Sainul Shah, who had lured her under false pretenses. The police operation, which extended from Deoria to Mumbai, demonstrates the seriousness of this growing menace.

8) The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has uncovered a grave terror conspiracy involving plans to target Karnataka’s revered Dharmasthala Manjunatha Swamy Temple as part of a broader ISIS-linked network operating across southern Bharat.

9) Disturbing revelations came to light in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly, exposing the scale of love jihad in the Malwa-Nimar region, a stronghold once known for terrorist networks like SIMI. According to the official report, 283 Hindu girls fell victim to love jihad traps, with 73 of them being minors.

Bangladesh

Attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh are relentless and designed to cleanse the religious minority from the country gradually. According to a study by Prof. Abul Barakat of Dhaka University, no Hindus will be left in Bangladesh by 2050 due to systemic and institutionalized persecution. Temple desecration, land grabbing, mob attacks after false blasphemy charges, rape/forced conversion of women, and hate speech are tools used to intimidate and drive Hindus out.

1) Bangladesh Army stopped relief work meant for minority victims who were attacked by Muslim mobs under the pretext of ‘blasphemy’, and insulted spiritual Guru Sri Gopinath Das Brahmachari.

World

1) Earlier this week, Nia, a six-year-old born in Ireland to Keralite parents, was attacked outside her family home by a group of older children. These boys (ages 12 to 14) and a girl (around 8) allegedly punched her in the face, twisted her hair, hit her neck, and used a bicycle wheel to inflict severe pain to her private parts. While doing so, they verbally abused her with slurs like “dirty Indian” and demanded, “Go back to India”.

Most hate crimes are driven by anti-Hindu bigotry encoded in certain religious teachings and political ideologies. While the anti-Hindu hate in Islamic countries is evident, there is another subtler form of anti-Hindu sentiment within institutions and the public sphere of ostensibly secular states (like India) that provides an enabling environment for Hinduphobia and hate crimes. This subtle, everyday discrimination can be missed unless one studies prevailing laws and patterns. The gradual ban on firecrackers during Diwali is a good example – it might seem pollution-related on the surface. Still, the double standards at play become apparent when one looks at the larger picture of restrictions on Hindu festivals and the lack of sound reasoning behind the ban.

We request all readers to share other anti-Hindu hate crimes that we might have missed in this period in the comments below or by emailing [email protected]. We also solicit support in maintaining the Hindu human rights tracker database.
