Sahil Sayyed booked for raping his ex-Hindu wife and threatening to kill her: Ahmednagar, Maharashtra

A person named Sahil Mohammad Shakir Sayyed has been booked for raping his ex-Hindu wife in Maharashtra’s Ahmednagar. He was earlier accused of abusing & assaulting his wife and harassing her friends. The latest complaint has been registered under IPC sections 376 (rape), 377, 504 (insult intended to provoke breach of the peace), 506 (criminal intimidation), and also under sections 3(1)(r), 3(1)(s), 3(2) of the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989.

The Maharashtra police booked Sayyed on Monday charging him with establishing sexual relations with a Hindu woman by force and issuing death threats to the victim. Sayyed has also been accused of imposing Islamic rituals and practices on the victim.

The FIR states that the victim and accused first got married in court in 2020. After 2 years, most likely due to pressure from Sayyed and his family, the two married according to Islamic rituals in 2022. The Hindu woman adopted an Islamic name and resided in Ahmednagar’s Mukundnagar area with her husband. However, Sayyed began harassing the victim’s Hindu friends shortly after. He not just called the victim’s friends at odd hours but also defamed the victim on calls.

The woman learned of Sayyed’s activities when one of her friends complained that he harassed her by calling her at 1.30 at night. He is also accused of issuing death threats to the victim. After learning about this, the woman went to the police station and lodged a complaint against Sayyed. The police called him and somehow settled the issue.

After the couple went home, a furious Sayyed picked up a rod to beat the victim. The woman consumed chemicals to escape the beatings. She was then rushed to the hospital. Following the incident on December 21 last year, the woman was sent away to her maternal aunt’s home till January 10 to take rest.

However, the woman never returned to her home after December 21 and began residing with her sister says the FIR. In the meanwhile, Sayyed started living with another Hindu woman at his house. He began forcing his wife to return home and stay with him and his new wife. When she refused, he forced his way into her house and forcibly established a sexual relationship with her. The woman in the complaint mentioned that she was brutally raped and assaulted by the accused.

“He raped me and forced me to stay with him and his new wife. He also told me that he wanted to establish sexual relations with me and his new wife at the very same time. He said he wanted to see how it feels. I refused. He then threatened me and used abusive language for my family”, the victim’s complaint says.

The complaint also alleges that Sayyed took away the victim’s entire jewellery and assets including 1.25 lakhs rupees and is refusing to return the same. The victim said that Sayyed has three wives in total including the Hindu woman he brought home in December.
