Meghalaya girl raped in Hapur, UP: accused Muslim youth arrested after video goes viral

A disturbing case from Hapur, Uttar Pradesh, has triggered public anger after a young Hindu woman from Meghalaya accused a local Muslim youth of rape, blackmail, and circulating an obscene video on social media. Police say the accused, a resident of Doyami village in the Hapur Dehat police station area, was arrested after the video surfaced and spread quickly online.

What Happened

According to the available reports, the woman alleged that the accused lured her with a promise of marriage and later called her to a hotel in Delhi, where he raped her and recorded an obscene video. The video was later posted on the accused’s social media account and went viral, reaching people in the area and sparking outrage among villagers.

The incident came to light after the clip circulated widely, prompting a police response and local mobilization. Reports indicate that angry villagers caught the accused and beat him before police arrived and took him into custody.

Police Action

Police have registered a case against the accused under relevant sections, and officials say they are trying to contact the woman so her statement can be recorded and further legal steps can proceed. The arrest was made after the viral video and the complaint brought the matter into focus.

The Hapur Dehat police station in-charge, Neeraj Kumar, is quoted as saying that the case has been lodged and the investigation is continuing. At the time of reporting, police were still working to formally record the survivor’s version of events.

Public Anger

The case has caused strong reactions in the village and surrounding areas because the video’s circulation turned a criminal allegation into a public spectacle. In this case, the viral spread of the video appears to have played a direct role in both the exposure of the alleged crime and the immediate public anger that followed. That combination has made the matter especially sensitive for local police and residents alike.

Bigger Concern

Beyond the immediate arrest, the case raises broader questions about sexual violence, coercion, and digital abuse of Hindu women. The allegations suggest not only rape but also intimidation and the misuse of social media to humiliate the survivor.

This is part of a wider pattern in which abusive acts are recorded and circulated, intensifying trauma and complicating police work. In such cases, the video becomes both evidence and a weapon, making timely investigation and victim protection crucial.

What We Know So Far

The most consistently reported facts are that the woman is from Meghalaya, the alleged incident involves Hapur and Delhi, a video was circulated online, and the accused has been arrested. Police are now trying to secure the survivor’s statement and complete the legal process.
