A troubling incident occurred on Rang Panchami night in Madhya Pradesh’s (MP) Sagar City. A group of Islamists attacked a Hindu e-rickshaw driver and his friend while they were playing religious songs. This led to a clash between the two communities, with police needing to use tear gas to disperse the crowd.
The incident occurred in the 12 Muhaal area of Sadar under Cantt Police Station. A radical Islamist mob stopped the driver and his friend, telling them not to play the song. When they continued, the mob attacked them. Fortunately, other Hindus intervened to stop the clash.
Tensions rose further when one of the Hindus trying to help was attacked with a sharp weapon. This led to stone-pelting and damage to vehicles. Police arrived and used tear gas to control the situation. They have registered three FIRs and are working to identify those involved, having already arrested 15.
According to the police, the auto-rickshaw driver was beaten up by the mob following a dispute leading to the clash. This led to the gathering of another group, escalating the violence. Local BJP leaders and Hindu activists demanded strict action against the attackers, calling for bulldozer action. BJP MLA Pradeep Laria, who visited the scene, described the incident as pre-planned. He mentioned that a person named Saurabh was attacked by a large group in his house, sustaining injuries, along with others injured by stones and bottles. After the incident, Section 144 was imposed in the area, prohibiting gatherings.
A similar incident was reported from Uttar Pradesh’s (UP) Lucknow, where auto driver Manish was assaulted, and his auto was vandalized while he was playing a song of ‘Sri Ram’. The incident occurred near Mahona Sheikh Tola Madrasa, where auto driver Manish and his cousin Umesh were beaten up. The attackers belong to the Muslim community. The incident took place on Friday (15 March), and the attackers were identified as Shanu Sabhasad, Danish, Safiq, and Shamim Shaikh.
