Complaint against American ‘motivational speaker’ Nick Vujicic for misusing visa to proselytize Christianity

Rights body LRPF (Legal Rights Protection Forum) has lodged a complaint against one Nicholas James Vujicic alias Nick Vujicic, a US national for indulging in Christian evangelism and proselytization in the name of ‘motivational sessions’ in Bharat.

LRPF has lodged the complaint with FRRO Hyderabad against this blatant abuse of visa rules which expressly prohibit religious proselytization activity. The FRRO, or Foreigners Regional Registration Office, is an central government agency under Home Ministry responsible for administering foreigner registration and immigration related functions for visitors to Bharat.

While the exact visa category under which Vujicic entered Bharat is not known, even Missionary Visa rules clearly state – “A Missionary visa is granted to a foreigner whose sole objective of visiting India is Missionary work not involving proselytization. Visa shall NOT be granted to preachers and evangelists who desire to come to India on propaganda campaigns, whether on their own or at the invitation of any organization in India.”

LRPF further informed that Vujicic’s next event is scheduled to be held today, January 30 at Malla Reddy University in Dulapally, Hyderabad, an education institution for which BRS/TRS MLA Chamakura Malla Reddy, Telangana Minister for Labor and Employment, is the founder Chairman.

As per Wikipedia, Vujicic is an Australian American Christian evangelist of Serbian descent, born with a rare disorder characterised by the absence of arms and legs. He was born in Melbourne to Serbian immigrants from erstwhile Yugoslavia.

In his evangelical website “Life Without Limbs – Nick Vujicic Ministries”, in a self-formulated “Statement of Faith”, Vujicic states his adherence to born-again Christianity. The website further proclaims – “Here are at least 4.3 billion people on earth who don’t know Jesus. That’s why we’re committed to sharing the Gospel with 1 billion more people by 2028.”

The website contains many Christian verses which are a direct attack on Bharat’s pluralist Dharmic ethos, and the Vedic messages of ekam sat vipra bahudha vadanti (Truth is one, the wise refer to it by different names) and of all humans sharing the same divine spark and having access to Self-Realization i.e. moksha. A few samples are produced below –

..the Scripture, both Old and New Testament, is the inspired, infallible and inerrant Word of God, the complete revelation of His will for the salvation of humankind, and the divine and final authority for all Christian faith and life.

…in God the Holy Spirit, sent forth from the Father and the Son, whose ministry is to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ; to convict humanity of their sin; to effect spiritual rebirth in the repentant sinner; and to indwell, sanctify, guide, instruct, and empower the believer for godly living and service.

…in God the Son… the Lord Jesus Christ, fully God and fully man, having been conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary; that He lived a sinless life and died on the cross, shedding His blood as the only acceptable sacrifice for our sins; that He arose bodily from the dead, ascended into heaven, where at the right hand of God He now sits as our High Priest and Advocate; and that His literal and personal return to earth in power and glory is imminent.

…that humanity was created in the image of God but fell into sin, and are now sinners by nature and choice, under condemnation, separated from God and spiritually dead.

It is a common trope among Christian fundamentalists and evangelists that non-Christians, especially Hindus are “living in darkness, worshipping false Gods in ugly, dark temples filled with monstrous idols”. This Abrahamic worldview, tacitly supported by Indian liberals and secularists, has already done immense harm to our ancient civilization and created social discord which is holding us back from reaching our true potential. It is time our governments cracked down unapologetically against hate-mongers disguised as do-gooders.
