Are Kerala gold smuggling gangs moving from the Gulf to Malaysia?

Gold smuggling gangs in Kerala who depended on Islamist countries in the Gulf are now allegedly switching their illegal operations to another Muslim country. Experts concur that Malaysia is the new favorite base for the Kerala gold smuggling mafia. There has been a huge increase in the smuggling of gold from Malaysia using women in recent times. Women from Malaysia smuggle gold in this way to some agents in Kerala.

In the last month, 4.3 kg of gold was seized at Nedumbassery International Airport in Kochi while it was being smuggled from Malaysia. This gold is worth Rs 2.13 crore. Women are the main traffickers from Malaysia compared to the Gulf. It is said that this new move of the gold smuggling group is after the gold smugglers from the Gulf countries have been caught regularly.

The majority of carriers in Kerala who smuggle gold are women. Lady carriers made up 13 out of the 17 people who were detained at the Nedumbassery airport this month for attempting to smuggle gold. In barely two weeks, the customs seized 8.472 kilograms of gold, valued at 4.4 crore rupees. The customs seized 8.472 kg of gold worth 4.4 crore rupees in just two weeks. Of this, 1.721 kg was left on the plane. 4.308 kg of gold was from Malaysia

While gold is brought from the Gulf in molten or solid form (bars), it is brought from Malaysia as ornaments. The jewelry brought in this way is sold at a higher price in the Kerala market and carries an added incentive to the smuggling mafia.

Comparing the value of the Bharatiya rupee with the Malaysian ringgit, one kg of gold has a profit of four lakh rupees. Another attraction for the gold smuggling gang is that flight ticket prices from Malaysia to Kochi are also very cheap compared to the Gulf countries. Women who become carriers to transport gold are often paid up to Rs.40,000. Apart from this, smugglers also provide two-way air tickets to Kerala.

On Sadhus eating meat… and on Swami Vivekananda not being from ‘right parampara’

Our tradition has all the answers to the age old questions but truth needs to reinstated all the time so that falsehood does not overpower even temporarily. So here it is.

It is funny to see how people believe Shri Amogh Lila Ji of ISKCON as an authority on Swami Vivekananda, but at the same time doubt Swami Ji for ‘not being from a traditional sampradaya’. 

First of all that is wrong. He was from a traditional samparadaya, and brought no revolution. He was bringing in Hindu renaissance, to bring back the lost glory of once glorious tradition. He was not inventing anything radically new. 

Secondly, if you value traditional sampradayas, it is Swami Ji whom we need to put our shraddha in more. 

About the meat eating issue, I will hardly be saying something new now by reiterating that our tradition is very diverse, and just like it is unthinkable for a Madhva or a Gaudiya Vaishnava to eat meat, it is as dharmic and essential for a Shakta to have meat in prasada. 

Neither should Vaishnavas have to eat meat to prove they are good Hindus, nor should Shaktas need to abandon it to prove the same. 

Why can’t both traditions be as valid? Why can’t you support Shaktas eating meat while being a vegetarian yourself? I am a vegetarian who has never ever tasted meat, and personally for me, it is something unthinkable. 

At the same time, I have not the slightest of doubt that it is something essential and centrally dharmic for all Shaktas and any other tradition inside Hindu/Sanatana dharma which has a pratha towards it. 

It is not that hard to support others’ paddhati, while having an entirely different paddhati yourself. 

For a great sadhu or jnani eating meat, let me say that Shri Nisargadattha Maharaja, who was a jivanmukta, a jnani used to eat meat too whenever it came before him. 

As he was above any lipta karma, none of that attached to his real Self, whether it was meat or just vegetarian food. He objected to no food and ate whatever came his way, like a real sadhu. 

Anyone who thinks this is dichotomous needs to study our tradition which is full of examples like this; not just avataras, or kings, and just any sadhus, but even jivanmuktas doing the same. 

I hope we are saner than this, especially when attack on our bali traditions are going to mount many times more in future. 

Every Vaishnava, Shaiva, Ganpatya and any other sect needs now to stand behind the Shakta right to give bali and to eat meat as prasada. This is one of those times to have that umbrella Hindu identity. Let us do that. 

Let us prove our great tradition, our great Hindu/Sanatana dharma is above all of this.

Trinamool confidante bizman & channel owner Kaustav Roy arrested by ED

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has arrested Kolkata-based businessman and the chief executive officer (CEO) of a popular Bengal news channel Kaustav Roy, known for his close association with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, on charges of financial defalcation.

Sources said that Roy was summoned to ED’s office at Central Government Office (CGO complex at Salt Lake in the northern outskirts of Kolkata on Monday morning. However, he finally reached the central agency office at around 4 p.m. and after a marathon interrogation for around ten hours he was finally arrested by the ED sleuths at around 2 a.m.

Trinamool Congress leadership, however, has so far maintained total silence over the arrest of Roy, whose businesses and news channel had been under the ED scanner for quite some time.

In August last year, two teams of ED and the Income Tax departments conducted simultaneous raid and search operations at the residence and offices of Roy. At that point of time the chief minister described the central agency actions as a ploy by BJP and the Union government to gag the media.

Roy was in the midst of a controversy in May last year, after the state government formed a committee for planning and monitoring of welfare and development schemes and made Roy, with a debated background, as the chairman of the committee. However, later his name was scrapped after the- then state governor and the current Indian vice president, Jagdeep Dhankhar questioned the justification of Roy’s appointment for that crucial chair.

Roy, the Kolkata- based businessman, had been involved in multiple sectors like computer, software and media.

In March 2018, he, as the director of RP Infosystems, was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with a Rs 515 crore bank fraud scam involving a consortium of banks, including Punjab National Bank and Canara Bank.

In September 2021, a Bengali channel owned by Roy, received a caution of cancellation of license from the Union ministry of Information & Broadcasting citing the Union ministry of home affairs’ denial of “security clearance”.

Four terrorists killed in 24 hours in J&K’s Poonch

In a joint operation, the Army and the local police have killed four terrorists in Poonch district within the last 24 hours.

Army’s Nagrota headquartered White Knight corps said on its Twitter page, “Operation Trinetra II.  In a major Cordon and Search Operation, acting on specific intelligence four terrorists were eliminated in a Joint Operation by #IndianArmy  & @JKP near Sindarah and Maidana villages in tehsil #Surankote of #Poonch district.” 

“Along with the terrorists four AK 47, two Pistols & other  war like stores were also recovered . Elimination of these terrorists has avoided major terrorist initiated incidents in #Rajouri & #Poonch area.  Search Operations are still in Progress”. 

The encounter had started on Monday on the basis of specific intelligence input.

On Monday, the Army foiled a major infiltration bid on the Line of Control (LoC) in the Bahadur sector of Poonch district after which a massive cordon and search operation was jointly started by the Army and the local police in the area.

“‘250 लड़कियों का बलात्कार’: आ गया ‘अजमेर 92’ का ट्रेलर, पर्दफाश करने वाले पत्रकार की भी कहानी; चिश्तियों की दरिंदगी 21 जुलाई से पर्दे पर”, ऑपइंडिया, जुलाई 17, 2023:

“अजमेर में नब्बे के दशक में बड़े पैमाने पर हुए हिन्दू लड़कियों के बलात्कार की कहानी दिखाने वाली फिल्म ‘Ajmer 92’ का ट्रेलर आ गया है। ‘रिलायंस इंटरटेनमेंट’ के बैनर तले इस फिल्म का निर्माण हुआ है। ट्रेलर की शुरुआत में ही एक दृश्य है, जिसमें वक बुजुर्ग अपनी होने वाली बहू की तस्वीर 2 युवकों को देता है और पता लगाने के लिए कहता है कि कहीं उसका बलात्कार तो नहीं हुआ है। बता दें कि उस समय अजमेर में ऐसे हालात थे कि वहाँ की लड़कियों के रिश्ते भी नहीं हो पाते थे। फिल्म 21 जुलाई को रिलीज होगी।

इसके बाद ट्रेलर में आगे एक व्यक्ति कहता है कि लोग सिर्फ उतना जानते हैं जितना उन्होंने पढ़ा-सुना है, लेकिन असल में अजमेर में 1992 में क्या हुआ था, ये हकीकत मैं आपको बताता हूँ। अख़बार में एक खबर दिखाई गई है, जिसमें लिखा है – “लड़कियों ने किया शहर को गंदा।” इसके बाद एक व्यक्ति कहता है कि ये पत्रकार लोगों को जरा भी अक्ल नहीं है कि कैसी फोटो छापनी चाहिए और कैसी नहीं। इसके बाद एक लड़की पेड़ पर फाँसी के फंदे से झूलती हुई दिखती है।

पुलिस अधिकारी कहता है कि लड़की गर्भवती थी, इसका मतलब है कि वो अपनी मर्जी से गई और उसके साथ जोर-जबरदस्ती नहीं हुई। हालाँकि, बीच के दृश्यों में दिखाया जाता है कि कैसे उस लड़की पर अत्याचार हुआ और क्रूरता से उसका बलात्कार किया गया। फिल्म का निर्माण उमेश कुमार तिवारी ने किया है। इसके बाद मुस्लिमों को प्रदर्शन करते हुए दिखाया गया है, जो कहते हैं कि उनकी कौम को बदनाम किया जा रहा है। एक पत्रकार है, जो इस गिरोह के पीछे पड़ा है….”

“उत्तर प्रदेश के आतंकवाद निरोधक दस्ते (ATS) ने पाकिस्तान की महिला सीमा हैदर को हिरासत में ले लिया है। ATS की टीम सोमवार (17 जुलाई 202) को नोएडा में सचिन के गाँव रबूपुरा पहुँची और सीमा हैदर को अपने साथ ले गई। हिरासत के बाद सचिन के परिजनों ने अपने घर के दरवाजे बंद कर लिए हैं। पुलिस को सीमा हैदर के पाकिस्तानी जासूस होने का शक है। इस मामले पर केंद्रीय जाँच एजेंसियों की भी नजर है।

मीडिया रिपोर्ट्स के मुताबिक सीमा हैदर का एक भाई पाकिस्तान की पुलिस और चाचा वहाँ की फ़ौज में सूबेदार पद पर हैं। ऐसे में सीमा के ISI से जुड़े होने की आशंका जताई जा रही है। ATS ने सीमा को हिरासत में लेकर पूछताछ शुरू कर दी है। ATS के अलावा IB और नोएडा पुलिस भी सीमा हैदर के केस पर काम कर रही है। सीमा हैदर के साथ उसके पति सचिन से भी पूछताछ की गई थी। वायरल हो रहे एक वीडियो में सादी वर्दी में एक महिला स्टाफ सीमा हैदर को अपने साथ ले जाते दिखाई पड़ रही है।

ATS की कार्रवाई के दौरान मीडिया की इंट्री बैन रही थी। फ़िलहाल सचिन के घर पर पुलिस की तैनाती बढ़ा दी गई है। घर आ कर मिलने-जुलने वालों पर भी रोक लगा दी गई है। बताया जा रहा है कि घर पर ATS के जाने के बाद सीमा हैदर किसी से बात नहीं कर रही थी….”

“मशहूर कवि व पूर्व AAP नेता कुमार विश्वास की पत्नी और राजस्थान लोक सेवा आयोग की सदस्य मंजू शर्मा के खिलाफ FIR दर्ज हुई। एंटी करप्शन ब्यूरो (ACB) ने यह कार्रवाई अधिशासी अधिकारी (EO) परीक्षा में ओएमआर शीट बदलवाने के बदले घूस लेने के आरोप में की। हालाँकि एसीबी के डीजी ने उन्हें मौखिक रूप से क्लीन चिट दे दी है। इस मामले में पुलिस कॉन्ग्रेस नेता और पूर्व राज्य मंत्री गोपाल केसावत समेत अन्य लोगों को पहले ही गिरफ्तार कर चुकी है।

राजस्थान लोक सेवा आयोग (RPSC) द्वारा आयोजित अधिशासी अधिकारी (ईओ) की भर्ती परीक्षा में घूस लेने के मामले में एंटी करप्शन ब्यूरो सख्त रुख अपना रहा है। एसीबी ने इस मामले में कुमार विश्वास की पत्नी मंजू शर्मा के अलावा आयोग की सदस्य संगीता शर्मा और संगीता आर्य के खिलाफ भी एफआईआर दर्ज की है। इनमें से संगीता आर्य राजस्थान के मुख्यमंत्री अशोक गहलोत के सलाहकार और पूर्व मुख्य सचिव निरंजन आर्य की पत्नी हैं।

इस मामले में राजस्थान एसीबी के कार्यवाहक डीजी हेमंत प्रियदर्शी ने कहा है कि एक शिकायतकर्ता को विश्वास में लेने के लिए एक बिचौलिए ने कुमार विश्वास की पत्नी मंजू शर्मा का नाम लिया था। यही नहीं एक बिचौलिए ने शिकायतकर्ता से यह भी कहा था कि कॉन्ग्रेस सरकार में मंत्री रहे गोपाल केसावत लोक सेवा आयोग की सदस्य संगीता आर्य और मंजू शर्मा को जानते हैं। केसावत इन दोनों के जरिए लोगों को पास करा सकते हैं….”

SC stays Kerala scribe Shajan Skariah’s arrest after local courts deny anticipatory bail in defamation case lodged by Marxist MLA

 The Supreme Court on Monday put a stay on the arrest of Shajan Skariah, the founding-editor of popular Malayalam YouTube news channel ‘Marunadan Malayalee’, who was on the run for several days after a lower court and the Kerala High Court turned down his anticipatory bail plea.

“Pending further orders, there shall be stay on the arrest,” ordered the SC bench comprising Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud and Justice P.S. Narasimha while issuing notice on the special leave petition filed by Skariah, challenging the Kerala High Court’s rejection of his anticipatory bail plea.

Skariah, who has been a vocal critic of the Pinarayi Vijayan-led Kerala government, ran into trouble after CPI-M legislator P.V. Sreenijin filed a case alleging that the online portal and Skariah made derogatory remarks against him, which come under the SC/ST Act.

Sreenijin is the son-in-law of retired Supreme Court Chief Justice K. Balakrishnan.

The apex court, while hearing Skariah’s petition, directed that a notice be served to the Kerala government as it listed the case for next hearing after three weeks.

“His (Skariah’s) statements may be defamatory, but these are not offences under the SC/ST Act. He may have said something against the father-in-law (of the complaint), judiciary etc., which may be in bad taste,” the CJI said.

Soon after the Kerala High Court refused to stay the lower court‘s denial of anticipatory bail to Shajan, the Kerala Police got into the act and conducted raids across his offices and even at the homes of people close to Skariah.

The police also confiscated 29 computers from his office, and asked the staff not to open the facility.

The act of the police drew criticism from most political parties, and numerous social and cultural personalities.

But the CPI-M maintained stoic silence in the matter, for which it came under attack from various quarters, who cited the Left leaders reacting to BBC offices coming under duress following its documentary on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, but maintaining silence in this case.

In a related development, the Kerala High Court on Monday came down heavily on the police probe team for confiscating the mobile phone of a journalist friend of Skariah, even when there was no charge or case against him, and asked the police to return his cellphone.

Another win for terror-accused Abdul Nassir Madani represented by Kapil Sibal, SC allows him to stay in his Kerala hometown

The Supreme Court on Monday allowed former president of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and prime accused in the 2008 Bengaluru serial bomb blast case, Abdul Nassir Madani, to move and reside in his hometown in Kerala.

A bench of Justices A.S. Bopanna and M.M. Sundresh allowed the PDP leader’s application on the condition that he will appear at a designated police station in Kollam in Kerala every two weeks. 

Senior advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing for Madani, apprised the apex court that his client is suffering from various ailments and trial against him in Bengaluru is almost over. Based on it, the court observed that Madani’s presence in Bengaluru is unnecessary and allowed him to move and stay in Kollam. It also permitted Madani to leave the Kollam district for medical treatment after informing the local police.  

Earlier relaxing his bail condition, the top court had allowed Madani to stay in Kerala for three months till July 8 for visiting his ailing father and getting Ayurveda treatment.

On 26 June, he was taken to Kerala from Bengaluru with tight police security arrangements after the Supreme Court had rejected his plea objecting to the cost of security arrangements. 

Later, he deposited Rs 6,74,101 to the Karnataka Government in advance for security arrangements. 

Madani, an accused in Bengaluru serial bomb blast case, is out on bail. However, the court had given a conditional bail restricting his movements outside Bengaluru until the case is disposed of.

One person was killed and 20 were injured in the Bengaluru serial blasts. Madani was named as one of the accused. The police have named 31 others as accused in connection with the case.

Tripura party to launch massive stir against BJP govt for ‘depriving’ tribals of rights

 The Tipra Motha Party (TMP), which is now Tripura’s main opposition party and governs the key Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), on Monday threatened to launch an agitation if the BJP government continues to deprive the autonomous body and does not hold elections to the Village Councils.

TMP supremo Pradyot Bikram Manikya Deb Barman said that the party would continue to fight for its core demand of “Greater Tipra Land” for the tribals, who according to him are deprived of basic facilities in education, health and all other areas.

“Various elections including the Assembly polls are being held in Tripura, but the BJP government does not conduct the Village Council elections in the TTAADC areas.

“Non-holding of the Village Council election has severely affected the developmental and welfare works in TTAADC areas,” Deb Barman told the media.

The elections to the Village Councils (equivalent to gram panchayat), originally scheduled to take place in March 2021, was also being delayed even after the clear directions by the Tripura High Court.

“We have once again sought intervention of the High Court to conduct the Village Councils elections,” he said.

Animesh Debbarma and TTAADC Chairman Jagadhish Debbarma, Deb Barman said
that 160 primary schools in TTAADC areas are run by a single teacher.

Roads, water supply, health facilities, and other developmental activities remained standstill in the TTAADC areas due to non release of due funds to the autonomous body for several months, he said.

“The BJP has been trying to undertake divide and rule policy in Tripura. The BJP has been demanding imposition of President’s rule in West Bengal, but over 140 people died and scores of people injured in the ethnic violence in Manipur, why is the President’s rule not imposed in the state,” the TMP leader asked.

He cautioned that what happened in Manipur would not be allowed in Tripura and added that his party would also not be allowed to break the unity in the state in the name of language, dialect, script, and religion.

Before and after the BJP led government assumed office on March 8 for the second time after the February’s assembly polls, the saffron party invited TMP to join the ministry and three ministerial berths were still kept vacant.

A two-day (Saturday-Sunday) Plenary Session of the TMP was held in the TTAADC headquarters at Khumulwng and Deb Barman relinquished the post of TMP Chairman and announced that as a member of the party would continue to fight for the rights and welfare of the tribals, who constitute one third of Tripura’s four million population.

Throwing a challenge to all the national parties — the BJP, the CPI-M, the Congress
and the Trinamool Congress — the TMP, the first tribal-based party in Tripura since 1952, emerged as the principal opposition in the state in the February Assembly polls and is now the main stakeholder of the vote share of tribals, who always played vital role in electoral politics of Tripura. 

The TMP, after capturing the politically important TTAADC in April 2021, has been demanding elevation of the areas of the autonomous body by granting a ‘Greater Tipraland State’ or a separate state status under Articles 2 and 3 of the Constitution.
