Uvaish Ansari booked reportedly for raping a minor girl: Satara

In a disturbing incident reported in Maharashtra’s Satara district, an accused identified as Uvaish Ansari has been booked by the Maharashtra Police for sexually assaulting a minor girl and threatening her. Ansari also took derogatory pictures of the minor and used them to coerce her into further sexual exploitation, according to the victim’s complaint.

The crime unfolded in 2021 when the girl was 17 years old. The complainant, in a report filed on 4 December this year, stated that she initially encountered Ansari while playing an online PUB-G game in 2021. Ansari, hailing from Hamidpur, Uttar Pradesh (UP), developed a ‘friendship’ with the girl, leading to conversations on WhatsApp and engagement on various social media platforms.

The interactions continued for about a year until February 2023, when Ansari insisted on meeting the girl in person. Upon his arrival in Satara, the duo visited a nearby fort named Ajinkyatara. It was during this encounter that the accused molested the girl and took derogatory photos, subsequently using them to blackmail her. He coerced her into accompanying him to a local residency lodge, where he sexually assaulted her and recorded a demeaning video on his phone.

Ansari then allegedly threatened the girl, claiming he would expose the compromising photos to her parents and villagers if she did not comply with his sexual demands. Although the incident occurred in February, the accused continued to harass the girl over social media platforms, demanding explicit photos through Snapchat and threatening to distribute derogatory content to her parents.

The terrified girl refrained from seeking help for several months but finally disclosed the incident on 1 December after Ansari informed her of his visit to Satara. The girl’s family promptly reported the sexual assault to the District Police Station.

The First Information Report (FIR) has been registered under sections 354A, 354D, 376(2)(n), and 506 of the Indian Penal Code, 1860. Additionally, sections 12 and 8 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act have been invoked against the accused. Ongoing investigations would uncover further details surrounding the case.

The incident sheds light on the escalating crimes against women in Maharashtra, as highlighted in a recent report by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB). Maharashtra ranks fourth in the country for recording rape cases against women, following Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh. The state reported 2,904 incidents of rape and 2,295 cases of murder in 2022, according to the NCRB report. Additionally, Maharashtra saw a significant surge in rioting cases, securing the top position in this category, as per the report.

The altercation ensued after the shopkeeper requested payment from the accused for the food they had purchased.

The confrontation took a violent turn as the group allegedly attacked Ashish and his mother, posing a severe threat to their lives. The attackers have been identified as Islamists, and the incident has sparked concerns about communal tensions in the region.

Police swiftly intervened, leading to the arrest of all four individuals involved in the assault. The legal proceedings are expected to follow, and the authorities are likely to investigate the motive behind the attack.

The incident raises questions about the safety and security of shopkeepers and individuals belonging to Hindu communities. Hindu Woman Denied Water in University Due to Non-Muslim Identity: Pakistan

In recent news, yet another distressing incident highlights the discrimination faced by Hindus in Pakistan. A video has gone viral depicting a Hindu woman being prohibited from drinking water in a Pakistani university library simply because of her non-Muslim identity. The emotional footage captures the woman breaking into tears as she recounts the undignified treatment because she was non-Muslim.

The woman’s revelations shed light on the pervasive religious discrimination in Pakistan, particularly the abduction and forced conversion of minor and economically disadvantaged minority girls. She emphasizes that these vulnerable individuals are targeted because they are perceived as easy prey. This disturbing reality has become the woman’s motivation to stand up against persecution, turning her personal experience into a journey for justice.

Drawing attention to historical context, Gandhi’s fast unto death in 1948 was undertaken to persuade the Bharatiya government to grant Rs 55 crores to Pakistan. It underscores the generosity of the Hindu community, contrasting it with the current state of affairs in Pakistan. Pakistan may have forgotten its dependence on Bharatiya water, but the pain and discrimination faced by Hindus in the country remain genuine.

Water plays a fundamental natural role in Asstan, as Bharat’s lower riparian Pakistan country relies on over 78 per cent of Bharat’s water inflows. Pakistan is facing economic challenges, with 39.3 per cent of its population living below the poverty line as of 2020-21.

The demographic landscape has also witnessed a significant decline in the Hindu population in West Pakistan since Partition. According to the 1941 census, Hindus constituted 14.6% of the population, but due to instances of torture, killings, rape, and forced conversions, they now make up only 2.14%. It questions the teachings that Pakistan has embraced if it has fundamental rights such as access to water based on religious identity.

This alarming situation raises concerns about the path to prosperity for a nation that appears to be grappling with both internal discrimination and external dependencies. The woman’s plea serves as a poignant reminder that a country cannot thrive by perpetuating discrimination, nurturing terrorists, and relying on the goodwill of others without addressing the core issues within its borders.

Historic, constitutionally upholds Parliament’s decision: PM Modi on SC verdict on Article 370

0

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday dubbed the Supreme Court’s verdict on the abrogation of Article 370 as “historic”, and said it constitutionally upholds the decision taken by Parliament and is a resounding declaration of hope, progress and unity of Jammu and Kashmir.

The Prime Minister also assured the people of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh that the government’s commitment to fulfilling their dreams remains unwavering, and it is determined to ensure that the fruits of progress not only reaches them but also extend their benefits to the most vulnerable and marginalised sections of the society who suffered due to Article 370.

In a post on X, the Prime Minister said, “Today’s Supreme Court verdict on the abrogation of Article 370 is historic and constitutionally upholds the decision taken by the Parliament of India on 5th August 2019; it is a resounding declaration of hope, progress and unity for our sisters and brothers in Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh.”

“The Court, in its profound wisdom, has fortified the very essence of unity that we, as Indians, hold dear and cherish above all else,” Modi said.

He said, “I want to assure the resilient people of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh that our commitment to fulfilling your dreams remains unwavering. We are determined to ensure that the fruits of progress not only reach you but also extend their benefits to the most vulnerable and marginalised sections of our society who suffered due to Article 370.”

His remarks came after the Supreme Court’s Constitution bench on Monday upheld the abrogation of Article 370 of the Constitution while announcing its judgment on a series of petitions challenging the abrogation of Article 370 and the division of Jammu and Kashmir into two Union territories.

The five-judge bench also ordered the Election Commission to hold elections in Jammu and Kashmir by September 30, 2024.

Calcutta HC expresses ire over pay structure of contractual employees in state govt

A division bench of the Calcutta High Court on Monday expressed ire over the pay structure of the contractual employees of the West Bengal government.

The division bench of Justice T.S. Sivagnanam and Justice Hiranmay Bhattacharya observed that the tendency of passing the buck in case of government services is because of the poor pay structure of the contractual employees.

“With such a kind of pay structure of the contractual state government staff, what more one can expect from them,” the Chief Justice observed on Monday.

The division bench made this observation pertaining to a case regarding the difficulties faced by individuals for enrollment for Unique Disability Identity Card (UDID), a Union government initiative to create a national database for persons with disabilities (PWDs). Accordingly, a portal was introduced in 2017 through which the individuals concerned could enroll their names for the UDID. However, the state government in West Bengal opened a separate portal of its own for the enrollment purposes.

However, since then there had been rampant complaints in West Bengal that whenever someone was trying to enroll his or her name for UDID through the portal, the latter was showing them as already “enrolled”, following which many faced problems in getting their UDISs.

A non-government organisation (NGO) filed a PIL in the matter and while hearing on the case at the division bench on Monday, the role of the contractual employees came under question from the Chief Justice.

“The doctors are not expected to do everything. Almost 80 per cent of the employees in state-run hospitals are contractual staff. They are entitled to a monthly allowance ranging between Rs 10,000 and Rs 12,000. What more can be expected from them,” the Chief Justice observed.

He also questioned the rationale behind the state government opening its own portal for that purpose since there is a central portal in the matter. He also questioned why the state government was not sharing the state figures with the central portal.
