Hindu Woman Denied Water in University Due to Non-Muslim Identity: Pakistan

In recent news, yet another distressing incident highlights the discrimination faced by Hindus in Pakistan. A video has gone viral depicting a Hindu woman being prohibited from drinking water in a Pakistani university library simply because of her non-Muslim identity. The emotional footage captures the woman breaking into tears as she recounts the undignified treatment because she was non-Muslim.

The woman’s revelations shed light on the pervasive religious discrimination in Pakistan, particularly the abduction and forced conversion of minor and economically disadvantaged minority girls. She emphasizes that these vulnerable individuals are targeted because they are perceived as easy prey. This disturbing reality has become the woman’s motivation to stand up against persecution, turning her personal experience into a journey for justice.

Drawing attention to historical context, Gandhi’s fast unto death in 1948 was undertaken to persuade the Bharatiya government to grant Rs 55 crores to Pakistan. It underscores the generosity of the Hindu community, contrasting it with the current state of affairs in Pakistan. Pakistan may have forgotten its dependence on Bharatiya water, but the pain and discrimination faced by Hindus in the country remain genuine.

Water plays a fundamental natural role in Asstan, as Bharat’s lower riparian Pakistan country relies on over 78 per cent of Bharat’s water inflows. Pakistan is facing economic challenges, with 39.3 per cent of its population living below the poverty line as of 2020-21.

The demographic landscape has also witnessed a significant decline in the Hindu population in West Pakistan since Partition. According to the 1941 census, Hindus constituted 14.6% of the population, but due to instances of torture, killings, rape, and forced conversions, they now make up only 2.14%. It questions the teachings that Pakistan has embraced if it has fundamental rights such as access to water based on religious identity.

This alarming situation raises concerns about the path to prosperity for a nation that appears to be grappling with both internal discrimination and external dependencies. The woman’s plea serves as a poignant reminder that a country cannot thrive by perpetuating discrimination, nurturing terrorists, and relying on the goodwill of others without addressing the core issues within its borders.
