Rambhau Mhalgi Prabodhini sends 7 delegates to 69th session, UN Commission on Status of Women
Mumbai: 10th March: The world observed the International Women’s Day on 8th March and so did Bharat. Our country has a long tradition of empowered women from the ancient Gargi, Maitreyi and Ubhaya Bharati to Jijabai, Rani Lakshmibai of Jhansi and Rani Chennamma of Kittur from the medieval period to the modern-day women achievers spanning across all domains.
Rambhau Mhalgi Prabodhini (RMP) proudly announces the successful nomination of seven delegates to the 69th session of United Nations’ Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) in New York from 10th to 21st March at the UN headquarters.
Women delegates from diverse backgrounds
The seven women nominated by RMP in the Bharatiya delegation to the UN event represent diverse professional and educational backgrounds. This delegation sent in collaboration with the NGO, Bhartiya Stree Shakti (BSS), will present the Bharatiya perspective on gender equality, and status of women and related issues. While Smt. Nayana Sahasrabuddhe represents public sector banking, Smt. Raginee Chandratre and Smt.
Seema Deshpande represent the social sector. Adv. Pratima Lakra represents the legal fraternity and Dr. Prachi Moghe is from archaeology. While Smt. Seema Kamble is the mentor in the women’s wing, Dalit Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Smt. Bharathi Mallampati has been in the IT sector. It is pertinent to note here that RMP is an organization in Special Consultative Status with the Economic & Social Council of United Nations (UN ECOSOC) since 2006.
Key features of UN CSW-69
The 69th session of UN CSW will review and appraise the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, and the outcomes of the 23rd special session of the General Assembly. The main focus would be to assess the current challenges in achieving gender equality and women empowerment. Women representatives from across the globe will present their views and recommendations in achieving these goals.
