Bangladesh: A popular Hindu political leader is murdered in Pirojpur

Amid continuous Hindu persecution, a popular political leader of the minority Hindu Community has been murdered in Nesarabad Upazila of Pirojpur district.

The deceased leader has been identified as Sekhar Sikdar. Sekhar was A former Union Parishad (UP) chairman.

He was killed in an attack allegedly carried out by the incumbent UP chairman and his supporters in the Atghor Kuriana union of Pirojpur’s Nesarabad upazila. The deceased, Shekhar Kumar Sikdar, was also the labour affairs secretary of Awami League’s district unit.

The victim’s family alleged that the incumbent UP Chairman, Mithun Howladar, and his men beat Shekhar to death. Mithun is a supporter of MP S M Rezaul Karim. However, Mithun denied the allegation.

Locals said that a group of men attacked Shekhar at Kuria Bazaar around 10:30 am when he was on his way to attend an annual sports programme at the local Kuriana Government Primary School as a special guest. Critically injured, Shekhar was taken to the Nesarabad Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.

After the incident, angry locals were agitated. The Police took the matter very seriously and immediately started an investigation. Also, the elite force RAB was informed. After a massive search, RAB arrested four accused from Bagerhat district.

As per the police, the arrested are present chairman Mithun Howladar, Sushama Howladar, Jalis Mahmood and Aminul Islam.
