MES President Fazal Ghafoor explains why a Congress return to power will favour Muslims

Dr. P. Fazal Ghafoor is the President of The Muslim Educational Society (MES), based out of Kozhikode in Kerala. He recently said that Congress is a party that stands for the Muslim community in every way. Ghafoor praised the Congress party but inadvertently pointed out the harm done to the Hindu community by Congress’s appeasement policies.

Ghafoor said that the Congress did not participate in the Pran Pratishta ceremony of the Ayodhya Ram temple because of its devotion to Muslim outfits. The Congress has granted reservations meant for the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes to the Muslims. The video of Fazal Ghafoor, who spoke on the Muslim Ummah and Policy Approach at the Mujahid State Conference, is circulating on social media.

The 10th Mujahid State Conference in Velicham Nagar, Karipur, Malappuram district, was organised by the Kerala Nadvathul Mujahideen (KNM) Markazu Dahwa from 15 February 2024. This is what the anti-Hindu radical Islamist influencer said during his speech.

“Let us examine from Jawaharlal Nehru onwards. During Jawaharlal Nehru’s era, Urdu was added as one of the 15 languages (with official status) in India. Hindi is merely one of them. Secondly, when states were organised in the name of language, that too became possible.”

There is Lakshadweep, there is Jammu and Kashmir. The BJP removed Article 370, but Congress preserved it for 70 years. There was no reservation during the freedom struggle (except in a few). But reservations came in every state. Then came reservations for Muslims all over India. That is why you now see Muslim IAS officers in India.”

“Minority status was introduced. Even though it was not specifically mentioned, as Muslims, Congress introduced minority status for Muslims. We can run our institutions. We can give our students (Muslims) admission to all the seats if required. We can appoint people from our community as teachers.”

The UPA government said that if anyone stands against it, approach the Minorities Commission. We (MES) are the ones who put it into practice. More than 100 MES institutions have minority status. Now the only barrier is for the BJP government to bring some law and take it (minority status) away mentioning technicalities.”

MES has schools, colleges, orphanages and hostels all over Kerala, neighbouring states and many Middle Eastern countries. There are around 150 educational institutions. Though admissions are open to all, Muslim students are given priority. After all, vacant seats are not commercially viable.

“Congress party has been in favour of Muslim parties. The approach of Congress is still the same. No Congress leader went to the Ayodhya Prana Pratishtha. The people of Lakshadweep have even been given hill tribe status. Along with that, they are getting Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes reservations. Congress has implemented all this.”

Ghafoor smirked when he mentioned the Lakshadweep part. Thangals allegedly consider ordinary Muslims unsuitable for marriage or other close personal relationships and marry only from other Thangal families. Thangals in Kerala claim Yemeni heritage and proclaim direct descent from the Prophet Muhammad’s family. Most Muslims consider them ‘upper caste.’ Do prosperous Thangals need reservations?

We have to move forward with everyone together. Muslims should all come together to fight.” Ghafoor has worked to keep Muslims in a perpetual state of preparedness for war. He has whitewashed the crimes of both the Taliban and PFI.

In early 2020, HinduPost reported that Ghafoor tried to whip up communal passions. He openly contested the authority of both Bharat’s independent courts and Parliament.

“If the (supreme) court verdict is against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protestors, the tone of strikes in Kerala will change. Everybody is getting ready now. Astras (Arrows/ missiles) have been accumulated. The only dispute remains when and in which direction they must be used. The court verdict is not the only expectation. People are above the courts and judiciary. We have proved that in the past. The will of the people is the most important factor.”

Ghafoor is the MES Medical College Neurology Department Head and a Governing Council member of Kerala Health University. He was elected as MES State President for the sixth time in 2022.

Ghafoor is often invited to prime-time debates by Kerala news channels and public functions where he is showcased as an ‘impartial political observer and likes to portray himself as a liberal secular. Hindus consider him a communalist interested in Muslim votes to create a Muslim nation.

The MES President has a track record of endorsing Islamist causes. He spoke in 2010 in Coimbatore at a gathering hosted by the terror-linked Islamist group PFI about how Islamists ought to strive for political dominance. Ghafoor became infamous for his speech, saying that the Popular Front should try to build up more leaders and a fraternity should come up. After the PFI ban, Ghafoor claims that the speech and the visuals were doctored.

The Hindu report published before the Mujahid State Conference said people of different faiths will attend a communal amity session on Friday morning. Thousands will attend the Juma prayers to be followed by the amity session. “We are arranging the programme in such a manner as to help the people of other faiths observe the Juma prayers,” said KNM Markazu Dahwa president E.K. Ahamed Kutty.

The report added that the Tourism Minister (and Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s son-in-law), P.A. Mohamed Riyas, will inaugurate a media seminar. The report said CM Vijayan will inaugurate the valedictory session on Sunday evening.
