A few days ago, while the Bharat-Pakistan fighting was ongoing, I spoke to a well-educated relative who was vacationing in Turkey. I casually asked him, “Why Turkey? You know they’ve always taken an anti-India stance.” He got offended and asked, “What’s wrong with going to Turkey as a tourist?” He even started attacking me personally, calling me “EXTREME.” This conversation stayed with me. How can we be so naive? And no, this is not a made-up story!
Did you know that Turkey is Pakistan’s 2nd largest arms supplier?
On May 8–9, Bharat faced an unprecedented drone attack: Over 300–400 drones crossed the border from Pakistan. Some even targeted army bases. Our civilians died in the attack! According to our armed forces, these were Songar drones, supplied by Turkey. Let that sink in.

The Turkey-Pakistan Military Nexus
In just the last decade:
1. Pakistan signed a $1.5B deal with Turkish state firm ASFAT for 4 MILGEM-class stealth warships.
2. In the same year, Pakistan ordered 30 T129 ATAK helicopters from Turkey — another $1.5B deal.
3. A few years ago, Turkish firms helped modernize Pakistan’s F-16 fighter jets.
4. Recently, Turkey supplied Bayraktar TB2 drones and Kemankes cruise missiles to Pakistan.
5. It was also reported that a Turkish navy ship docked in Karachi in the midst of the clashes between Bharat and Pakistan.
All of the above points to one simple fact: Turkey is arming our enemy, systematically and openly.

Not just weapons, but political support too.
After the recent Pahalgam terror attack, Pakistan’s PM thanked Turkish President Erdogan for backing Pakistan’s stand on Kashmir. This is not new. Turkey has repeatedly taken anti-Bharat positions on international platforms.

Bharatiyas spent ₹3,000+ crore in Turkey in 2024.
Last year, 3.3 lakh Bharatiyas tourists visited Turkey. That’s a 20.7% increase from 2023, contributing ₹3,000+ crore to the Turkish economy. Bharatiya tourists spent over ₹4,000 crore, or about $480 million USD, on Turkey and Azerbaijan together during the last year.

This money spent by Bharatiya tourists goes straight into the economies of these countries towards:
1. Flights
2. Hotels
3. Weddings
4. Jobs
And what do these countries give us in return? They both stand with Pakistan after the Pahalgam attack. And yes, some of that money goes right into the Pakistani military pipeline.
Operation Dost: When Bharat helped Turkey
In February 2023, after a devastating earthquake struck Turkey and Syria, Bharat launched Operation Dost. Do you all remember this? How did Bharat support Turkey during its darkest hour?
Bharat sent
1. NDRF rescue teams
2. Medical professionals
3. Relief equipment and materials
4. An entire field hospital to help Turkish civilians
5. The name said it all: “Dost,” a friend in need. We did this without asking for anything in return, driven purely by humanity and compassion.

And how did Turkey respond?
1. By arming Pakistan.
2. By sending Songar drones, used in the recent drone attacks on Indian civilians.
3. By backing Pakistan on Kashmir, even after terror attacks like Pahalgam.
I am sure at least a few of you are still thinking, what’s wrong with going to these countries as tourists, as my cousin asked me? Let’s try to put things in perspective.
Let’s assume that your house is under attack by your neighbor, and a third party is knowingly supplying weapons to your neighbor. Would you still go and do business with that third party? Would you go and dine at the third party’s house? Would you pay money to this third party knowing fully well that this money is going to be used to burn down your house? That’s exactly what we’re doing when we vacation in Turkey.

Think Before You Travel
We all love to travel — but we must be aware and responsible. There are over 190 countries around the world to explore. So why choose one that arms our enemies? Visit Greece instead of Turkey. Visit Armenia instead of Azerbaijan. Choose countries that are friendly to Bharat — like Japan and France — not those working against us.
Your rupee is your power. Use it wisely!
