Dr. Krishnamurthy Sarpangala’s (57) dead body was recovered near the railway tracks at Hattiyangadi in Kundapur taluk of Karnataka on Wednesday. His wife reported him missing on November 8. The renowned dentist has practiced in Badiyadka of Kasaragod district, Kerala, for the past 30 years.

Police said his head lay severed, but the body was severely mutilated. Dr. Krishnamurthy’s daughter identified the body as that of her father on Thursday. A postmortem was conducted before the body was handed to the family. Details of the same remain unknown. 

Local police lodged a case of unnatural death. They arrested Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) Kumbdaje panchayat secretary and areca nut trader Ali Thuppakallu, IUML Badiyadka Panchayat office bearer Muhammad Hanif Yane Anwar, Kumbdaje resident Ashraf, Annadka resident Muhammad Shiabuddin and Vidyagiri Muniyuru resident Umarul Farooq for abetment of suicide. An initial investigation revealed that these accused, led by Ali and Anwar, arrived at Dr. Krishnamurthy’s clinic and threatened to harm him before he went missing.

Local media (especially the ones aligned with Congress) tried hard to create an impression that the deceased doctor was a ‘sexual pervert’. IUML is aligned with Congress in the state. IUML also has radical elements that morph and become cadre of the now-banned Popular Front of India once the sun goes down.

On Tuesday at around 11:00 a.m., these five went to the doctor’s office and claimed he had sexually misbehaved with a 32-year-old woman. They urged him to publicly apologize to the woman for ‘misbehaving’ toward her. According to reports, the dentist informed the gathering that he would need some time to consider it. Usually, sexual harassment victims approach the authorities, but in Kerala, Islamists have clout and run kangaroo courts in their areas of dominance.

After leaving the clinic for a half-hour, the criminals came back and challenged Dr. Krishnamurthy once more. Additionally, they allegedly threatened to have the woman call the police if he did not apologize in front of everyone. Islamis often use false allegations to tarnish the goodwill of Hindus, and many fall victim to such tactics. According to an officer, this was when the doctor departed the clinic on his motorcycle. The doctor’s vehicle was discovered around 3 p.m. at Kumbla Railway Station, 18 km from Badiyadka.

The sexual assault ‘victim’ went to the Badiyadka police once the motorcycle was located and registered a complaint against Dr. Krishnamurthy. The dentist’s wife reported that the dentist was missing, and police registered both cases. Assistants at his clinic complained about the individuals who threatened them. Police discovered the doctor’s body later that evening, and Badiyadka Station House Officer Aswith S Karanmayil detained the five suspects and filed Section 306 charges against them (abetment of suicide).

Allegedly, the dentist was not wearing his clothes, and his purse containing all his identity papers was missing, when his remains were recovered. Kundapur, where the body was found, is 150 km from Dr. Krishnamurthy’s clinic.

On Friday, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal demanded action be taken against those guilty of the doctor’s death by organizing a dawn-to-dusk hartal in the Badiyadka panchayat. No untoward incidents were recorded during the hartal, according to Badiadka police. Even though the market’s stores remained shuttered, private cars plied the roads. 

Economic Jihad

Dr. Krishnamurthy had a reputation for doing his job well. His father founded the clinic and served as a doctor there for many years. His dental clinic is known for excellent service to all his patients. His popularity proves that residents of Badiyadka (irrespective of religion) respected the doctor.

According to local accounts, Dr. Krishnamurthy had received threats from the Muslim League’s leaders and other Islamists who were allegedly supporting a new dental hospital in the town that belonged to their group. The criminals had threatened the doctor with extortion and warned him to shut down his clinic or suffer severe consequences.

The Islamists wanted the reputed dentist to shut down his clinic so the new Muslim one would flourish, locals allege. When the doctor refused to give in, the Islamists blackmailed and threatened Dr. Krishnamurthy. Locals alleged that economic jihad led to the death of Dr. Krishnamurthy in Kasaragod. In the end, the Islamists won the battle for economic dominance and control.

An enormous demographic shift in these areas has resulted in land jihad, indirectly leading to the death of people like Dr. Krishnamurthy. They pressured him to sell his land & when the doctor refused, the Islamists filed a fake sexual harassment complaint, locals believe. The central government has chosen to remain silent when such Islamsits run riot, and security forces are introduced once the exodus of Hindus is complete. As Kashmir has shown us, the ‘impact’ of such after-the-fact policies for the Hindus is pointless.
