Unmasking the Bhim-Mim Myth: Realities of Buddhist-Muslim Relations in Bharat

The documented records in recent years detailing Buddhists supporting Muslims and Muslims attacking Buddhists, expose the inherent contradictions and catastrophic failures of the so-called Bhim-Mim ideology—a narrative advanced by anti-Hindu forces in Bharat. This ideology, built on the premise of a natural alliance between Dalits (“Bhim” referring to Dr. Ambedkar) and Muslims (“Mim”), champions a supposed joint struggle against the supposed oppression of the Hindu majority. However, the ground reality, as chronicled in these cases, paints a starkly different picture.

Buddhist-Muslim Dynamics: An Overview

Repeated instances reveal that, while Buddhists have extended support and solidarity to Muslims during various crises, this gesture has not been reciprocated. Rather, multiple incidents across two decades show Muslims engaging in outright violence against Buddhist communities—not only in regional flashpoints like Sri Lanka and Myanmar but also in Bharatiya states and international hotspots where inter-community relations matter deeply. These events, found in local and national reports, unravel the hollow nature of Bhim-Mim politics and challenge the anti-Hindu narrative that seeks to delegitimize Hindu society’s cohesive fabric.

Buddhists Supporting Muslims: A Chronicle of Compassion

Throughout the controversies surrounding NRC, CAA, and NPR, several Buddhist groups in Bharat and neighboring countries openly sided with Muslims, expressing solidarity during protests and riots. Buddhist leaders marched, issued statements for Muslim rights, and pleaded for peace, positioning themselves as protectors of minority welfare. Notably, these gestures in 2020, 2024, and previous years reflected genuine efforts for inter-community harmony, going far beyond the rhetoric pushed by ideological alliances.

Muslims Attacking Buddhists: Recurrent Betrayals

Despite the above goodwill, clear patterns of violence by Muslims against Buddhists are recorded. Key examples include:

  • In Bangladesh (2012), Buddhist temples were burned in Ramu, Cox’s Bazar; hundreds of homes and scores of temples were destroyed by Muslim mobs, uprooting entire communities.
  • In Myanmar, Buddhist villages faced attacks from Muslim Rohingyas, leading to retaliatory cycles of violence but putting the Buddhist minority at constant threat.
  • In Bharat and Sri Lanka, similar aggression was reported, with Muslims vandalizing or attacking Buddhist sites and people—a direct contradiction to the alliance narrative.

The Failure of Bhim-Mim: Exposing the False Alliance

The very premise of Bhim-Mim—a seamless Dalit-Muslim unity—is routinely contradicted by reality. When crises hit, it is Buddhists who face violence from Muslims, not Hindus. Nor does Muslim leadership stand by their Buddhist counterparts in times of need. Instead, anti-Hindu forces continue peddling this alliance for political gain, oblivious to the suffering it brings minorities like Buddhists.

Anti-Hindu Forces: Narrative Versus Reality

By promoting Bhim-Mim, anti-Hindu ideologues claim moral high ground. Yet, these same circles remain silent when Buddhists are persecuted by Muslims, demonstrating gross hypocrisy and selective outrage. When brief alliances fail, it is Hindu society that consistently advocates for genuine pluralism and coexistence—a far more tested and inclusive worldview than the opportunistic Bhim-Mim experiment.

Reclaiming the Hindu Civilizational Ethos

The incidents documented in this article are a wake-up call. Instead of falling for the trap of fabricated unity, Bharatiya society must recognize time-tested Hindu pluralism as its bedrock. Any social engineering that undermines this ethos only serves to destabilize the fabric of Bharatiya civilization and further endanger its minorities.
