Another case of grooming/love jihad emerged from Kerala recently. There was a twist, though. The young girl is from a Christian family, and her father is a local influential Marxist leader. A bunch of communists thrashed the Muslim man in front of a court after the judge allowed the couple to live together.
A young Muslim man from Malappuram groomed her when she was still a minor. He is employed by the Kerala government-owned Kerala State Financial Enterprises Limited (KSFE). It is a state-owned non-banking finance company with a history of laundering black money for political leaders and crony capitalists.
The 18-year-old girl is a native of Thodupuzha Cheruthoni in the Idukki district. She is a degree student at Santhigiri College in Vazhithala near Thodupuzha. The grooming happened over social media. Earlier this month, as soon as she turned an adult, her lover lured the girl to his place in Malappuram.
Allegedly, the Muslim man decided to convert her to Islam and took her to a conversion center in Malappuram. The controversial Maunathul Islam Sabha is the only ‘authorized’ Islamic conversion center in Ponnani, Malappuram. What happens to these converted Muslims once they leave the center after attending a two-month class on Islam remains unclear. Many have ended as ISIS brides in terror bases like Syria, Iraq, and Afghanistan.
On 4 February, the girl’s father, a CPM worker, lodged a complaint at Karinkunnam police station stating that the lady was missing. The family lives in the village of Maniyarankudy, 7 km north of Cheruthoni town.
On investigation, police checked her phone location and found the girl in Malappuram. This was when they allegedly understood that she was at the Islamic conversion center. Police reached there and ‘rescued’ the girl. Allegedly, such promptness is not expected from Kerala police when the victim is a Hindu girl.
When the young girl was produced in the District Court at Muttom Thodupuzha, her lover and a bunch of jihadis also appeared. Since the lady was an adult, the court asked her opinion, and the student decided to go with the male friend of her own free will.
Her parents were also in court and saw their daughter tell the court that she was not interested in going with her father and mother. Her relatives, several local CPM workers, and leaders were also present when this happened. Once the court was adjourned, and the couple came out of court, a pitched battle erupted between the two groups.
The secrecy behind the controversy was such that even the media were unaware of the grooming jihad case. This is not the first time jihadis have protected radical elements that indulge in trapping young non-Muslim girls. That they assembled in front of a court in Idukki and brawled on the streets shows how dangerous the whole grooming mafia operates.
Incidentally, Thodupuzha police knew there would be trouble. To avoid any untoward incident, a group of 100 policemen from various stations had assembled there under the leadership of the Thodupuzha DySP. Yet, a clash erupted between the Islamists and the CPM group led by the girl’s father.
It was reported that the Malappuram native and his group were severely thrashed. Several police personnel, too, were injured in the incident. At one point, CPM leaders snatched mobile phones and hijacked the car the jihadis arrived in. Top police officers intervened and returned the car and phones.
What triggered the violence is said to be the fact that the grooming jihadi tried to convert the young girl from Christianity to Islam.
Idukki Muttam police registered a case against 14 accused, including CPM district leaders who led the conflict. That included CPM Area Secretaries T R Soman and Mohammad Faisal. CPM area committee members Shimnas, Albin Vadassery, M S Sarath, and a few relatives of the girl were also charged.
A case has been registered against three ‘friends’ who accompanied the youth and took part in the violence. Per the court’s directive, police moved the Christian girl and her Muslim boyfriend to a shelter home in Malappuram.
A few media houses that justify Islamist atrocities claimed that the two were married. They are not. The incident revealed the double standards that the communists adopted. CPM denies that the concept of grooming jihad exists.
Shejin & Joisna
In April 2022, another young Christian lady named Joisna Mary Joseph went missing from Thiruvambady in the Kozhikode district. Her family, local Christian ‘communist’ MLAs, and her church blamed love jihad. Shejin was a known womanizer and the regional secretary of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), the militant wing of the CPM. Joisna was working as a nurse in Saudi Arabia.
CPM leadership punished their Christian MLA, Linto joseph, who raised the alarm. DYFI came out in favor of Shejin and extended full backing for the marriage. The current DYFI national president, A A Rahim, and the former president PA Mohammad Riyas supported Shejin openly. They threatened that nobody would be allowed to interfere in this marriage. These leaders remained silent when the Thodupuzha violence unfolded.
George M Thomas, a two-time local legislator of the CPI (M) who also liaised between the Church and the Marxist party, assured the girl’s family that she would be brought back safely. He appeared on live TV alleging ‘Love Jihad’ and validated Joisna’s family’s charges. For his Love Jihad reference, the CPM censured former MLA Comrade Thomas.
Joisna was held captive in a terrorist radicalization center in Kollam or Alappuzha and later declared that she had eloped of her own will. The couple visited the Thamarassery court and expressed their desire to live together. The court allowed Joisna to go with Shejin but dismissed her parent’s plea for speaking to her, claiming that Joisna’s family might emotionally blackmail her!
Joisna’s father, Joseph, said he was let down by the entire system – the government, police, and courts.
