Peddamma Thalli temple demolished in secret, murti removed through back gate, Hindu devotees demand immediate government explanation: Telangana

In the early hours of July 24, the sacred Peddamma Thalli Mandir in Hyderabad was secretly demolished at 3:30 AM under complete darkness and with no official notice. As per Telangana Today, the demolition was carried out covertly, and the murti of Bhagwan was smuggled out through the rear gate, while Hindu devotees and activists, completely unaware of the operation, staged a protest at the front of the mandir premises. The silence of the authorities and the calculated secrecy surrounding the act have enraged the local Hindu community.

The demolition triggered immediate outrage. On learning about the clandestine act, Hindu devotees began to gather, demanding answers and justice. However, rather than engaging with the community, the government responded with suppression. On July 29, the state imposed a complete ban on the Bonalu festival celebrations, one of Telangana’s most vibrant and culturally significant Hindu events, and placed several activists and devotees under house arrest. The heavy-handedness was seen as an open assault on religious freedom.

Perhaps most shocking was the Telangana police’s subsequent denial of the mandir’s existence on the land. After the murthi was secretly relocated, the police force claimed there was no temple structure at the site, a statement that contradicted decades of documented history, photographs, and religious practice. This denial was interpreted by many as an attempt to erase Hindu religious heritage from public memory.

Locals recall that the Peddamma Thalli Mandir had stood as a beacon of devotion for generations, serving as a center for religious, cultural, and social gatherings. The Bonalu festival, especially, was deeply associated with the deity and drew thousands of devotees. By first removing the murti and then attempting to erase the mandir’s historical identity, the state administration has been accused of engaging in deliberate spiritual disenfranchisement.

This incident has deeply disturbed many across the state and country. Hindu rights groups have described the event as not just a demolition of bricks and stone but a calculated attack on Hindu faith, truth, and civil rights. The forced silence of devotees, the nocturnal demolition, and the suppression of religious expression raise serious questions.

Hindus are facing a systematic marginalization, temples are being razed, festivals have been restricted, and Hindu voices are being silenced. The destruction of the Peddamma Thalli Mandir has become a symbol of growing concern about anti-Hindu sentiment operating under the guise of administrative procedure and urban development.

Who in the government gave the order to carry out such a disgraceful act in the dead of night? Why was 3:30 AM chosen, a time when the city sleeps, to secretly smuggle out the pavitra murti of Bhagwan and demolish an entire temple that has stood as a sacred site for generations? The next morning, when shocked devotees sought answers, the very authorities who orchestrated the act denied the existence of the temple itself. Is this what it means to be a Hindu in today’s Bharat, where our mandirs are erased, our gods disrespected, and our voices silenced? As Hindus, it is not just our right but our solemn duty to stand up and protect our land, our temples, and our Bhagwan. Who are these extremists, emboldened under silence, to decide the fate of our sacred spaces? We must rise, speak, and resist before more of our heritage is lost in the dark.
