Moradabad, U.P.: Love Jihad scandal exposed as Hindu girls report brainwashing by Librarian Asif Hassan

A troubling incident has emerged in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, where disturbing trends have surfaced regarding the brainwashing of Hindu female students in a library adjacent to the District School Inspector’s office. Based on the reports from Dainik Bhaskar, it is claimed that Senior Assistant Islamist Asif Hassan, who was overseeing the library, encouraged female students to engage with the Islamist youths.

In response to the complaints, District Magistrate Anuj Singh has ordered Islamist Hassan’s removal from the library and reassigned him to his original position. The library serves as a study space for students preparing for competitive exams, making the allegations particularly alarming.

The female students have reported that Hassan frequently discussed Islam and encouraged them to befriend Islamist boys. They noted that Islamist youths often visited the library, and students who interacted with them were given ample opportunities to engage in conversations. Distressed by these encounters, some students submitted a written complaint to the District Magistrate.

Joint Director of Education Manoj Kumar Dwivedi confirmed that, upon the DM’s orders, Islamist Asif Hassan was removed from the library and returned to his previous post. A two-member inquiry committee has been established, consisting of a spokesperson and an administrative officer from the education department, to investigate the claims further. They will also speak with the students involved.

Asif Hassan has denied the allegations, asserting that he is also a father to a daughter and calling for an investigation into the matter, highlighting that CCTV cameras are installed in the library. He stated he was unaware of any complaint filed against him. The DM confirmed that a complaint had been received and that an inquiry was underway to uncover the facts, after which appropriate action would be taken.

Based on the reports from Jagran, this is not the first time Islamist Asif Hasan has been involved in controversy; approximately 13–14 years ago, a raid was conducted at his office after reports surfaced of a weapon being found in his room. Following the raid’s announcement, he allegedly fled the scene.

Recently, in August, the Assembly passed an updated version of the UP Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Bill, 2024. Commonly known as the love jihad law, this legislation imposes stricter penalties for illegal or coerced religious conversions. Under the new bill, offenders may face sentences of up to 20 years in prison or even life imprisonment if the conversion was obtained through threats, marriage promises, or as part of a conspiracy. Previously, the maximum punishment was 10 years in prison along with a fine. Despite the prevalence of love jihad cases being higher in Uttar Pradesh compared to other states in Bharat.

Several cases have recently emerged in Uttar Pradesh, highlighting an alarming trend. In one such incident in Lucknow, Islamist Aqeel posed as Akhil Yadav to deceive a married Hindu woman. He raped her and force-fed her beef. Such incidents are raising serious concerns about safety and the ongoing issues related to love jihad in the state.
