In a shocking turn of events during Navaratri, a Durga mandir in Mathura was allegedly converted into a dargah by local Islamists, leading to widespread anger and protests among the Hindu community. Based on the reports from Times Now Navbharat Hindu activists claimed that the temple had significant religious importance, being known as the “16 Pillar Temple,” with the 17th pillar considered magical and sacred. Reports of the temple’s conversion have ignited tensions, with saints, pandits, and local leaders demanding immediate action.
One Hindu activist expressed frustration, stating, “A lot of things are happening against Sanatan Hindu Dharma, and with careful planning, they have already converted 4 lakh temples into mosques. The latest information is that they have turned the Durga Mandir into a dargah. It is very unfortunate that during Navaratri, this has happened.” He also vowed to take legal action, saying, “We will go to court and seek justice.”
A senior guruji, when asked about continuing the pooja, emphasized that “the pooja is secondary, but the demolition of the mandir structure cannot be ignored. Those responsible for this act must be punished.” He urged the authorities to take swift action, warning that the situation could escalate if not addressed. “If proper action was taken when this started, we could have prevented this. It’s not too late now, but by the end of Navaratri, we request all villagers to gather, and we will reinstall the Durga vigraha and perform the pratishta.”
Another pandit appealed to the media for support, requesting that, “At least by Navami, we should get the right to perform pooja in the Durga mandir.” He further criticized the disappearance of the 17th pillar, adding, “This is a religiously significant site, and they are trying to demolish it. We request the authorities to give us back the Durga vigraha and allow us to do pooja on Navami. If not allowed, we will organize a proper strike.”
Hindu activists echoed these sentiments, stating that “They do not have their own place, so they attack Sanatan temples and build their structures.” They blamed political apathy for the situation but vowed not to let the matter escalate further.
This continuous attack on Sanatan Dharma by Islamists is highly condemnable and unacceptable. The recent incident of converting the Durga Mandir into a dargah in Mathura adds to the growing list of assaults on Hindu religious sites. Already, there are ongoing discussions around Mathura’s Sri Krishna Janmabhoomi, which is a sensitive and historically significant issue. Apart from that, this fresh incident has further fueled tensions.
Hindu activists have expressed their frustration at the targeted attacks on temples, with one activist stating, “Islamists are deliberately targeting Hindu mandirs, and this is part of a larger pattern of religious aggression.” Such incidents, according to them, are not isolated but part of a coordinated effort to undermine Hindu Dharma. The community has now called for legal and social action to safeguard their sacred places and ensure that such incidents are not repeated. This also happened in Mathura, where the temple side presented ASI evidence claiming the Shahi Eidgah as Bhagwan Krishna’s birthplace. Meanwhile, concerns arose over the Waqf Board’s alleged encroachment on properties and declaring them as waqf assets.
This targeted hostility toward temples and religious intolerance by the radical Islamists against Hindu religious practices not only hurts the faith of millions but also destabilizes communal harmony in regions like Mathura, which hold deep religious significance for Hindus.
